Once just a production facility, Drake's recently opened up its brewhouse to the public as a 24-tap beer bar and retail store with an outdoor patio and a relaxed ambiance.

A production brewery specializing in a modern day craft interpretation of the "Old California Style" lagers. The brewery has a tasting room and is also open for by-appointment tours for individuals and small groups.

If the Pleasanton Hotel seems a little too formal, head across the street to the Main Street Brewery, where everything is looser and livelier. This is adult entertainment primarily for Pleasanton’s thirtysomething-and-older crowd. The Main Street features free blues and rock shows on Friday and Saturday nights. There’s a full menu with usual bar food: burgers, sandwiches, and salads, plus a kids’ menu.

Pacific Coast Brewing is located in an elegantly restored historic building in Old Oakland that harks back to the Gold Rush era. The microbrewery hosts free blues and jazz acts about once a month, but it’s known for its large selection of beers -- 25 on tap -- as well as its tasty selection of common bar food, including burgers, pizzas, and other deep-fried snacks. On weekend nights, especially in the summer months, Pacific Coast Brewing can become a crowded, lively place, especially because of its large, heated, outdoor patio.
