Party on the waterfront this New Year’s Eve at Jack London Square’s new Italian restaurant, Lungomare (1 Broadway, Oakland). Enjoy the view as you dine on the fancy three-course prix-fixe menu (including a trio of gelatos or cannoli for dessert). If you’ve got other festivities to get to, go to the first seating at 5:30 p.m., or come for the second seating at 8:15 p.m. and stay for the real party. Starting at 9 p.m., DJs Davey D, Nina Sol, Wonway Posibul, and Viktor Duplaix will be spinning in the lounge, and soul singer Naima Shalhoub’s band will be playing in the dining room. One of the most dreaded parts of going out on New Year’s Eve is always the trek home after the party, but if you take advantage of the Waterfront Hotel’s (10 Washington St.) discount rate for Lungomare party guests, you can just stumble down the block to your room at the end of the night instead of facing the BART crowd.
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to give back to your community and help those less fortunate, start 2014 off by heading to the New Year’s Eve Benefit Gala at the Hilton Oakland Airport (1 Hegenberger Rd., Oakland). Proceeds from the festivities will go toward Love Never Fails, a local faith-based organization that works to protect East Bay children from sex trafficking. The evening’s program will include dinner, a one-woman play by poet Regina Y. Evans, and a dance performance by Aisha Whitmore-Love, Reagan Griffith-Aragones, and Natalie Seon. Then enjoy some drinks and dance the night away to the tunes of the Reed Fromer Band, content in the knowledge that you are “partying with a purpose.”
Celebration of the cafe's four year anniversary with the opening of a new art show featuring work by Oakland artists. With DJs extraLars, Styles, and Malachi, and Urban Legends offering wine tastings.
