Be Live About It

Fourth Tuesday of every month, 8 p.m.
Be Live About It
The East Bay poetry scene is expanding into the variety show medium. Be About It zine editor and popular Bay Area poet Alexandra Naughton has teamed up with Nomadic Press founder and editor J. K. Fowler to bridge the gap with a live variety show called Be Live About It. “Think Saturday Night Live meets The Tonight Show meets All That meets that weird thing your younger cousin does in their basement with a tape recorder,” as the description reads. The first of the ongoing series will take place at Woods Bar and Brewery in downtown Oakland (1701 Telegraph Ave.) on September 22 at 8 p.m. Each edition of the show, which will take place every fourth Tuesday, will feature a live band, a poet, and a comedian. For the first, those will be Lake Lady, Wendy Trevino, and Pam Benjamin, respectively. The shows will surely be best live, but each edition will also be recorded — of course — and uploaded to Naughton’s That Lit Podcast, “for the sake of posterity and general web fame.” Free
