DJ & Dance, Rock & Pop
Third Thursday of every month, 9 p.m.
Bubblegum, pop, sweets — these and other candied sonic confections collide at Cavity Rock. For whatever reason, music listeners tend to liken sound to taste, and DJ Stand-In is confident enough in the figurative leap to promise attendees enough saccharine and sugary songs to warrant a root canal every third Thursday at The Night Light (311 Broadway, Oakland) Literally speaking, the rise of “cavities” in pop music perhaps signals the need for a new vocabulary. To play along, though, Cavity Rock attendees should find comfort in the fact that dental technology has improved since the 1970s, which is the choice era for power-pop and glam rock according to DJ Stand-In’s record collection. And anyway, the Night Light is stocked with enough bitters to temper sweet aural sensations with sour oral ones.
