On Jan. 8th The Tuttles with AJ Lee will be reunited for an exciting show at the Freight & Salvage, Berkeley and AJ Lee will release her new, debut EP! Molly also has a new EP from earlier in 2014 to share and there will be lots of great old favorite songs in the concert along with new material.
What people are saying about the band…
"Dave [Stewart, of the Eurythmics,] shared the stage also in mid-show with another new discovery, guitarist-singer Molly Tuttle, a North California native who sings with the gentle authority of Gillian Welch, yet plays astoundingly fleet flat-picking guitar like Chet Atkins on superdrive . " - American Songwriter Magazine
"Can This Kid Be the Next Alison Krauss?" - Mother Jones Magazine, interview with AJ Lee
Catch the next generation of bluegrass masters when The Tuttles with AJ Lee take the stage at the Freight. The Northern California Bluegrass Society (NCBS) has twice named them Best Bluegrass Band, and named Molly Tuttle the Best Guitarist, Michael Tuttle the Best Mandolin Player, and Jack Tuttle the Best Fiddler. Oh, and Best Female Vocalist? That would be AJ in 2010, 2011, and 2013, Molly in 2012. The band is up for awards again as finalists with Northern California Bluegrass Society (Best Band, Best Female Vocalist, Best Mandolin, Best Fiddle)The point is, these folks can sing and play bluegrass with skill and spirit far beyond their years—except for Jack. His years are already up there with his spirit and skill. He’s the father of Molly, Michael, and Sullivan, the band’s bass player, and he gave the kids their first music lessons in their living room in Palo Alto, passing along what he learned as a member of the original Tuttle Family Band that his father Gerald started many decades ago on the family’s farm in Illinois. The NCBS gave Jack a Lifetime Achievement Award this past year.
Definitely checking this out
This band rocks!

If you want to be thrilled by a piece of new theater, grab Ragged Wing Ensemble's current production "Redwolf" at the Flight Deck, quick, while it's here. Whatever you might think from the title, let's just say, it’s not pindownable – and that’s a compliment. What a fine balance of spare exquisite writing, directing, tasty ensemble acting, music and sound design, atmospheric song and choreography, set design, props, costumes, lighting...and artistic ideas. It is modern, relevant, rooted, penetrating, sensual, funny, creepy, subtle, gorgeously stylish, mythic, political and spiritual, and....just go see it! (Sorry about the too-many adjectives.) We're not from here, not reviewers and we know nobody. We're just saying! It’s so great to be surprised for once. G and M from NYC
Wow. When we heard at the last minute that BTE would be doing a "power acoustic" show since their equipment had been stranded in Wyoming, we were certainly let down for a couple of hours. But then the show started, and these guys turned out one of the best shows we have seen in years! They took the whole crowd by the balls and ROCKED hard, and entertained the bujeezus out of us. Can't say enough about how good this show was, all the more incredible in that it was the first night of the tour and they were handicapped by their missing guitars. BRAVO! I will see them again for sure! Loved it!
Pieces of Oakland is a mashup of visual images and maps from the past and the present, and plans for the future. Love the true Vision that is the heart of this exhibit. Oakland is alive, a place with history and character, and can be found through this exhibit. It is easier to get to the next place if you know where you are starting. The future of Oakland I got from this exhibit is Hope.
it's just not a real saturday without at least a cruise through the market to say hi to my favorite vendors or see my neighbors. Period...
The director, Michael French, is on the COVER of the latest EB Express Arts Preview Edition without explanation... but come and see what he has made of this brilliant, intelligent, and funny exploration of The World's Worst Sinner. Witnesses called to the stand include Mother Theresa, Caiaphas, Sigmund Freud and Satan himself, with appearances by a filthy-mouthed St. Monica, "Mary Mags," some Apostles, and Jesus himself. Amazing performances in an exciting little black box — Oakland's first dedicated theater space! Downtown where Broadway and Telegraph meet, about a block from the Fox.
This is going to be a great event for an amazing individual.
Best Zydeco in the Bay Area!

I have been the coordinator for 3 years now, after this review was written. Each year we have more and more people (8,000 people came last year alone). We have a great line up of entertainment on the stage, kid's carnival rides, a petting zoo, over 90 community and craft vendors and over 15 food vendors.
Bring the whole family - if you want to beat the crowds, come at the beginning, as it gets full of folks later in the afternoon. Personally, I think it is a wonderful, family oriented and neighborly fair.
Dick and Jane Hella Mad Records....

Dear Dick and Jane, Thank you for the great performance last Saturday. I am always skeptical when I see acoustic instead of electric
and sometimes as we get older, performers mellow and tone down their performances. (Some call it their "mature" phase.) I see that time
and time again. Maybe I need to grow to appreciate that more but This was not the case with Dick and Jane. The powerful performance
evoked the anger and sparse nature of early punk rock/experimental genres. Linda and Dave are reunited to create the magic that they
did together 25 years ago when they played on the same bill as No Alternative at Gilman st. I look forward to seeing them again!
The Lunchbox Project is such a positive event and the issue of disposable single-use foodware in our streets needs to be talked about more. Thank you Clean Water Action for bringing an event to East Oakland!
