Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
Are you kidding Bob Enos Soundwave is amazing. The acoustics are great and they are all musicians who just love to play.

Awesome food and atmosphere. The owner is incredibly accommodating and conscientious of the guest. Love the variety of food and multiple beers. The patio on a sunny day is THE place to be!
Delicious with great presentation. Really lived up to traditional Japanese Ramen. The marriage of the soup and noodle was spot on! Glad to see that Oakland has another fantastic POPUP catering to traditional Asian food cuisine. Keep up it up Ramen Man!
They made me the best grilled goat cheese sandwich ever! And a Redbull vodka to go with it.
Great Story ... wish I could attend, but I'm in Nashville/Lebanon, TN. K
My son’s birthday is tonight and he wants to watch a movie, so one of my employees at DISH suggested ParaNorman. I think it is going to be perfect. With all the Halloween stuff that goes on around this time I know that he will love seeing some zombies! I am even going to grab the 3D version for him since this is his special day. Now that we have the DISH Hopper we never have to suffer the weather or ridiculous fees for a good 3D flick. I just get home and we start enjoying our night right away.
Sushi Sho is the best Sushi in the Bay Area. It is very traditional Japanese, so people unfamiliar with Japanese culture might find it too simple or too austere. Nonetheless the quality is unbeatable. As my Japanese friend says: it's the closest to being in Japan as you can get in the Bay Area.
Perfect place for toys and books for all ages A great range of classic and new products that cover all interests and abilities. This is a treasure chest for playthings that are well worthwhile. Easy to find and park and browse to locate that special gift for every child (and adult) on your list. A great store.
I hope I,m in the right place, or was. I lived on Piedmont Ave while attending CCAC (Now CCa), in Oakland, and my room-mate & I wandered off and found ourselves in this beautiful Garden of roses. We were looking for Mary B. Best's Ice cream 'hideaway'. We -being art students-were 'lost' for hours. What a wonderful way to lose the day. I believe we tried to find it several more times, only to be successful once. This was in 1978 or 1979, so perhaps we were sniffing too much 'rose dust'. I hope it was real, as this 'roasis' was just a few blocks from several major roadways. One our best college memories!
My grandmother passed away a long time ago... but my family and I swear that on Sunday's SOUL'S somehow wakes her from the Grave to cook... SOUL'S is a wonderful place to eat... Awesome food, Great Service and just as SoulFul as Sexual Chocolate...
Make sure you have had nothing before going to the Sunday Brunch. it's pure Gluttony. They have large tables and Chairs that make you feel comfy too... I like that. It's about $20 for the all you can eat sunday brunch... it's SOOOO worth it!!!
East Bay Brass Band is amazing!

This may be the best donut that I've ever eaten. This cute shop, demurely situated between a falafal shop and a junk store, and conveniently at the mouth of a 19th St Bart station entrance, keeps me always wanting another. Firstly, the donut I can only describe as "cake" but it doesn't leave that heavy, "why did I just eat that" feeling in your stomach. It only leaves you wanting more! A sucker for chocolate, the first donut I had was the chocolate glaze. Unlike the Krispy Kreme, or Dunkin' style glaze, Donut Savant has a thick, Julia Child-style dark chocolate ganache spread atop each cake donut. It is unreal how delicious it is! The other styles and flavors I have tried are similarly delicious. I can also attest to the delightfulness of the seasonal pumpkin donut.
Friendly and chic... not often do those two qualities share common ground, but at E iWEAR, it's different. Jennifer and Ernst are super sweet and the selection of styles is amazing. Best of all, none of the frames come from the global eye-wear giant that dictates prices and puts small guys out of business. All the frames at E iWEAR come from small manufactures, with one of them being just a few miles away in Hayward, CA. I highly recommend them!
Spectacular feats of sitting! Eliza O'Malley truly deserved the gold for her operatic sitting solo, and the judges' corruption this year was without parallel. The sitting mastery of Scoop Nisker, the genius of Dr. Mozzarrelli diving into a cup of beer on a chair, the compelling speech on sitting addiction, the "Beware the Chair" narration all deserved recognition. I'll never sit quite the same way again.
I attended the first of these discussions a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting.
As Co-Director of our fantastic festival, let me clarify the cost of the shuttle. It is $5 for adults and teenagers, $2 for children 12 and under. If we run at full capacity, the price of the shuttle tickets will barely cover the cost of operating the system. Merritt College is accessible by AC transit, check 511.org for more info. Buses start to run at 10:30, last bus from Merritt is at 4 PM. See you there :)
The Berkeley Rose Garden is one of the most visited sites in Berkeley and not to be missed any time of the year. The event promises to be one of the most gratifying and fun filled event of the year. Do not miss it.
