Best Zydeco in the Bay Area!
Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/246890802184299/
I have been the coordinator for 3 years now, after this review was written. Each year we have more and more people (8,000 people came last year alone). We have a great line up of entertainment on the stage, kid's carnival rides, a petting zoo, over 90 community and craft vendors and over 15 food vendors.
Bring the whole family - if you want to beat the crowds, come at the beginning, as it gets full of folks later in the afternoon. Personally, I think it is a wonderful, family oriented and neighborly fair.
Same for me. I followed Julie here too. She's the best! And yeah, no pretentious hipster vibe, but often some cool art.
I love this place! Parking is easy, the salon is quiet and relaxing, I followed my hair stylist Julie here (who is now the owner) and I like so much better! I have recommended it to friends/co-workers who also love it. No pretentious hipster vibe here
Really great store...loads of selection! Sizes start at a 10 and go to a 24.
I love Diana Gordon at Keter! She gives the best haricuts and her color is spot on! I have been coming here for more than 10 years and I feel happy and plesed every time I leave with a great cut, style and color! THe vibe is creative and the outcomes are excellent!
Dick and Jane Hella Mad Records....
June 17 at 9:36am
Dear Dick and Jane, Thank you for the great performance last Saturday. I am always skeptical when I see acoustic instead of electric
and sometimes as we get older, performers mellow and tone down their performances. (Some call it their "mature" phase.) I see that time
and time again. Maybe I need to grow to appreciate that more but This was not the case with Dick and Jane. The powerful performance
evoked the anger and sparse nature of early punk rock/experimental genres. Linda and Dave are reunited to create the magic that they
did together 25 years ago when they played on the same bill as No Alternative at Gilman st. I look forward to seeing them again!

The Lunchbox Project is such a positive event and the issue of disposable single-use foodware in our streets needs to be talked about more. Thank you Clean Water Action for bringing an event to East Oakland!
OK, If I hear one more reviewer use the word "feminist" and/or "empowerment" in their review of this film, well...I think I'm going to have turn the reviewer into a raven. Why is it that when we CORRECT the MASCULINEST bias of ALL OF OUR PREVIOUS MYTHOLOGIES that THAT is somehow "BIASED?" Tell a tale from the male? It's simply a tale. Tell a tale from the female? it's "revisionist." I think it's really interesting that critics were falling all over themselves to praise "12 Years a Slave" for its bold telling of a horrific part of history. No one called THAT film "black revisionist empowerment." It was just simply TELLING THE TALE FROM THE VIEWPOINT OF THE HISTORICALLY INVISIBLE PERSPECTIVE. No need to slap a label on that. In 12 Years a Slave, someone is drugged and betrayed and has to fight not to become evil in the face of unspeakable evil. Maleficent is a fairy tale version of the same evil that happens to women everyone (being drugged with a ruffie and raped). And THAT evil is actually SUNG ABOUT in our popular music as being OK. But 12 Years a Slave is an epic human masterpiece and Maleficent is "feminist revisionist." Pah-lease.

We investigated nine facilities within 10 min. of our home in the Laurel. All had to be full service facilities with Memory Care unit. We chose Mercy for my 85-yr old MIL. She had the typical reluctance to go to "an old folks' home" but it has worked out beautifully. Within a month she was telling everyone how happy she was to be at Mercy.
The units all have views (either Bay or Hills), the food is good (3 meals daily), the 7-acre campus is safe and well-landscaped, good activities, and best of all, Mercy rates VERY HIGH in state rankings for low turnover, high staff morale, and resident satisfaction. Note that they are associated with the Alma Via homes in Northern CA; Salem Lutheran/Oakland is being sold to provide Mercy with funds for an expansion of facilities.
Altho Mercy has many Catholic residents (Mass is said every day) they do not "push" religion on anyone; we'd consider it non-denominational. There is a private senior center space on-site where classes, concerts, and meetings are held for staff and residents.
Great all around place. Quality food, drinks, music, everything.
This movie was badass
