Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
A. I could be wrong but sounds to me like the protester tried to get away after hitting the mayor in the face with the pie so how is chasing a guy down tackling him and beating him "to a pulp" self defense? B. I get that a pie in the face is considered assault especially when done to a public official but once again "beating a guy to a pulp" for hitting you with a pie should not be considered as self defense ever. Don't get me wrong the protester should absolutely be prosecuted but so should the mayor for his actions. That is no way to react to such a small "assault" especially if your the mayor of your city. Ridiculous on both ends.
Nobody is right. There are no winners. Protesters need to stick to Protesting legally. Protesting is not Assaulting people. This is perpetuating one ignorant response after another. The American people are coming across like a mob of ignorant, violent, out of control jack asses. This is all so embarrassing.
Whoop his ass KJ
People in this thread that keep making it about Johnson being black...knock it off! I don't care what color you are, if someone assaults you, you have the right to defend yourself and deliver an ass-whooping. It has nothing to do with being black or white. Grow up and stop segregating!
You are an adult. There are consequences and repercussions of improper behavior. An adult knows situations can escalate so you may want to be proactive and approach any solution civilly.
When you violate anyone's personal space be prepared to accept what happens next. He is a public official.
Accountability is a lost art. You can protest. You can disagree. You do not violate someone's rights to make a point. It defeats your cause. How important was his stance he thought a pie in the face of an elected official would make a difference.
It is unfortunate that people comment without getting all of the facts. The Mayor is a fine, upstanding man, and did what most people would have done if attacked. HE DEFENDED HIMSELF, which was his legal right. Just because you disagree with someone you do not have the right to physically assault them, which is what the pie-thrower did.
If you haven't been to the festival or seen the videos, you just won't understand. This is not an issue of eating a certain type of animal, this is about publicly torturing animals and maximizing their suffering. This is unnecessarily cruel and just horrific
dear black person, mayor johnson is a fragile flower with no ability cope with jack…its a pie. He is unfit for public service.
Dear white people...there are some things you do NOT do to black people and they include throwing things in their faces, throwing blood on real furs they purchased and spitting on them.
Is this bad idea to search partner on sites like http://analdating.club ? Because I cant find sex partner who likes anal sex in real life :D
Three cheers for the Mayor! As for any issues with the Mayor's past it has nothing to do with being assaulted. More folks need to step up and fight back and not just keep taking the abuse from others.
Sitting peacefully and protesting. You don't deserve to get punched. Smashing the Mayor in the face-punch away.
What if the pie had acid in it? What if it was a diversion for a larger attack. I bet if the pie thrower were a Muslim you would say shoot him.
Well as the saying goes: "You gon' learn TODAY!" You cannot engage in a surprise attack on anyone and not expect a reflex. Especially a public figure who needs to remain on alert of his well-being and safety more strictly than the average person.
It goes without saying the pie-thrower was wrong. On the other hand, the mayor would have set a better example with a reaction that was more Christian-like.
He was attacked on the same property he's sexually attacked numerous young females.
But no one has commented on how the pie tasted.
Why would non Africans go to Africa...we are American,. Born here makes you American.. people are so ignorant...but pie my face imma whop your ass...nuff said..
And I might whop your ass for telling me to go somewhere I've never been, where my family is not from and doesn't live...
what happened with the tenants who did not make it out alive was the apt complex held accountable were there any settlements. my sister just recently died from an apt fire. insurance trying to dispose of the building which I am fighting them on and want to take criminal chargesa against
Good for Thompson to get his ass whipped. However, Johnson got away for apting several toddlers, so Thompson should not be charged with a felony for putting a pie in Johnson's face.
Oakland is definitely on the right track but based on some of the comments, it will take a while for folks to understand the approach. When I travel from my place in the Jack London District to downtown Berkeley or the UC campus I use public transit or park in one of the public garages. Yes, it is more expensive to park on the street. That's the idea! We do need to find more ways to get folks to/from BART. Easy for me to walk to Broadway and tale the free shuttle. All of the developers flocking to downtown Berkeley should be required to contribute to this service so it can be expanded. And it won't hurt folks to walk a few blocks. In fact, it's good exercise! Parking must also be "unbundled" from new development so it's not necessary to pay for a parking space that you might not use. The price we pay to provide "housing" for our car vehicles is absurd.
What is wrong that guy . In a way he got what he deserve. In other words don't. Take kindness for weakness. He need to think about that.
