Re: “Oakland Activist Cat Brooks on President Trump: 'My Revolutionary Prayer'

Ask me about my brothers and sisters who are being persecuted all over the World! My skin color does not matter, nor does theirs, because everyone has RED BLOOD coming out when they are killed for not denying Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. You are speaking of discrimination, which is temporary. Start thinking bigger, like martyrdom, which is more important than any single thing in this life. Birth control? Seriously? You are a young person who should be thanking Jesus for your life.

Re: “At Belly in Uptown Oakland, the California-Korean Burrito Comes North

Alice Woo has been giving me a bad vibe for awhile now. I think she is racist and she obviously doesn't care about social issues like gentrifciation because she's a successful business owner. I'm so not surprised to hear about your experience there Becca. Every time I've gone in there she gives off a bad energy. Your story just confirmed that she is definitely a racist person who I personally think needs to check herself before she talks foolishness to the wrong one.

Re: “Alternative Holiday Sports Options (For Those Of Us Too Broke For the Warriors or Raiders)

So if you're broke, you should go see animals being abused? This is a place that has actually had a former employee charged with felonies for cruelty to animals! East Bay Express, I expect more from you, I really do. There's a million wonderful CHEAP things to do across the east bay that doesn't involve helping people profit off abuse.

Re: “Dan Savage: Fucking Is Part of the Fight Against Trump

After being in relationship with Wilson for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that don't believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I meant a spell caster called Dr Zuma zuk and I email him, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem and who is different from all the fake ones out there. Anybody could need the help of the spell caster, his email: or call him +2349055637784 you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or anything. CONTACT HIM NOW FOR SOLUTION TO ALL YOUR PROBLEMS'

Re: “Lawyers Guild Decries Oakland Police's 'Brutal' Tactics Against Trump Protesters

Typical of this reporter, he omits what the lawyer acknowledged, which was reported in another publication: the police action "might not merit actionable litigation." In other words, nothing illegal.

Ms. Brooks, you should have monitors. They should exclude people wearing masks, people who obviously have tools of violence on their person, etc. If you call a march, you are responsible for these common-sense measures.

Re: “Lawyers Guild Decries Oakland Police's 'Brutal' Tactics Against Trump Protesters

If we are to protect the vulnerable that Trump has vowed to go after, we need to be able to peacefully protest without fear of police brutality. The mayor elect in Berkeley has been outspoken on Berkeley being a sanctuary city.

Mayor Libby Schaaf Which side are you on? And can you control your own police force, is this brutality at your instruction?

Re: “Oakland, Richmond, Berkeley Leaders Vow to Protect Immigrants Against Trump Administration

Our infrastructure is already crumbling due to lack of funds by the Feds. I don't think it's going to make that much of a difference. I'm all for sanctuary cities. It's the only way to fight back against the horror that the Trump administration is.

Re: “Community Coalition and Wood Partners Strike Deal on Massive 13th Street  Housing and Retail Project

@Matt, thanks for your opinion, but your take on this seems bereft of both facts and context. if the Lake Merritt Area Specific Plan had any teeth, the community wouldn't have to fight for affordable housing. This deal is also significant because it adds something tangible to the city's proclamation of BAMBD as an arts district, establishing a model for cultural retail. The developer is also willing to direct the Public Art Fee towards projects which benefit the community. And D2's low-icome residents will benefit from project contributions aimed at anti-displacement and stabilization efforts. I dont know how one can spin this as a dirty deal, given that the Planning Commission didnt even consider community benefits, and approved the project initially with market-rate housing and no contribution to affordable units. So why is it "dirty" to get wins for the community which benefit its most vulnerable residents? You may want to rethink that perspective.
