Re: “Berkeley Spark 3.0 Arts + Innovation Festival

This is fantastic outdoor community arts festival. I love dancing in the grass with friends, checking out the local designers, and gathering with friends to laugh and catch up!

7/6/15:
This class is not currently in session. I have contacted East Bay Express multiple times to have this listing removed, but they have not responded.

CEID offers classes in Signing Exact English (NOT American Sign Language) on Tuesday mornings only during the school year. We do not currently have an evening sign class. The Tuesday class is for parents of deaf and hard of hearing children from birth through preschool and the vocabulary and activities are targeted to that population. Feel free to contact me at kimberly@ceid.org with questions or if you need help finding other resources

Re: “Maggi Payne

Maggi Payne
Too seldom on the stage, Maggi Payne's presence is nonetheless felt deeply, far and wide by any lucky enough to encounter her boundless, truly singular sensibility. An interdisciplinary builder of timbre, light, movement, and objects that entice play, Payne's acoustic and electro-acoustic works often include video, dance, transparencies, and film. She has recordings on more than a dozen different labels and serves as Co-Director of the Center for Contemporary Music at Mills College. Don’t miss this amazing chance to join Maggi Payne in the small sound chamber at Second Act.

Tania Chen
Toy pianist, experimental musician, and free improviser, Tania Chen, brings her found objects, lo-fi electronics, and pianoworks to Second Act. Acclaimed as a foremost performer of compositions by John Cage, Michael Parsons, and Cornelius Cardew, tale of Chen's full range must also include her improvisational duos with Steve Beresford on an album called "Ointment", with Jon Raskin and Bruce Ackley of the Rova Saxophone Quartet. Basically, the best way to grasp this virtuoso's mastery of musical chance and moment is to step directly inside the time space continuum with her. Your portal opens Wed 6.17.15

Extra Soft Earthquake
Who's to say if it's love lorn knees about to swoon, or the solar system tugging at tectonics just enough to tousle your hair, only the bubbles in your brain are precise enough to register disaster of these proportions. The question becomes, who else feels it and for that, you need something extra: a resonant frequency for detecting others. With two masters of tectonic touslings, Jon Leidecker (wobbly) and Jake Rodriguez (bran(...)pos) spinning the top, few will be left standing at this, their debut performance.

Earth Jerks
Christian Dixon knows humans, not only has he played with them as with his famed trio Death Sentence Panda! he defies their spiritual death by running a record shop, and it's even rumored he created a real human inside his house. But if you separate him from other humans, something strange happens, it's as if he can summon the personhood of machines. As documented on the Computer Tapes label, his solo project, Earth Jerks, demonstrates how to use gaffer's tape effectively and how to abide by the adage; "3 chords good, 2 chords better, 1 chord best". The audience will be asked to keep a safe and silent distance during this demonstration.

Five stars for the Octopus, which has a nice selection of craft beers for $5 or $6, plus sandwiches.

Re: “Left Bass Dance Party: A Fundraiser for The BlackOUT Collective

Thank you for the Love EBE! BlackOUT only supports Black Brunch actions. They are autonomous and a group of young people in Oakland brainstormed the idea with us and organized the first few themselves. We support them. Can't wait to party with yall!

Seymour is a good friend of mine. I interviewed him at his Manhattan apartment in 2012 and covered him in my blog numerous times. . The movie is fantastic and inspiring.

Re: “Stalingrad 3D

Excellent film with great score and special effects. The lead actor, Petr Fedorov, looks like Senator Mark Rubio. The characters were well developed and interesting. There were some surprising developments in the plot. Worth watching.
