Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
Seems like Contra Costa is motivated by greed and malicious dislike of immigrants (particularly brown immigrants). It's so easy to ignore ICE. Every other Bay Area county does. Something is rotting in Contra Costa.
All Law Enforcement Should Aide ICE in deporting Criminal Illegal Aliens who do not have a legal or moral right to be in the U.S . The U.S does not have open borders and will not allow these criminals to roam free.
The Oakland schools should be put in receivership again. Very few vocational skills are taught. These schools have become a place for criminal youth networking..
As victims of crime, seniors and homeowners, we strongly object to parcel taxes
going to this school to prison pipeline.
Contra Costa County needs to elect new leadership. It's time to clean house in order to promote our progressive values.
Are you kidding me? Lets follow the facts: Kim commits a violent armed robbery. But thats not all. He is here illegally and then goes on to commit other crimes like possessing stolen property. David Jones had to cope with stress and had FOUR DUIs while here illegally. Are you kidding me? He could have killed someone. And then, the last sad victim of this story is Smith, who, guess what, committed a crime while here illegally too, Domestic Violence! What am I missing? If the Probation Chief and the Sheriffs Office didnt hand them immediately to ICE they would be guilty of incompetence. The Public Defender cannot possibly defend this nonsense. Maybe the author is hoping to win a Pulitzer prize on this ridiculous article. The only thing he proved is that the Trump Administration needs to bring the hammer down hard and now. You provided three great examples of why!
I met Jim shortly after moving to KC , he was the guy at the record store that could get me anything I wanted. Always a kind soul, almost always had a smile, even when thing were rough. After a while he and a few of our friends were playing together doing whatever came to mind, and he and a friend opened place called the Rhumba Box, hosted every outside sort of music from punk to ..well, just about everything. Somehow he got Beck to play 2 shows on his 1st tour there, when Loser was just beginning to hit the air. Those shows, and that someone had torn the sprinkler system out of the space he rented for it lead to the closing of it and his exit from KC at that point. As it was pre internet days, we lost track of one another until a few years ago. Even not having seen one another for over 20 years, the news of his passing has been a blow. He was a unique soul, one the world will miss.
The Oakland system should be put into receivership. It is a place where youths network to plan crimes. Few vocational skills are taught. As victims of crimes and homeowners, we do not want our parcel tax to fund this criminal organization.
The Oakland school system, administrators, board should put in receivership again. Oakland schools are a place where young people network to commit crime. Few vocational skills are taught so kids could a living upon graduating. There is a 40% drop out rate in high school, as I recall. As victims of crime and homeowners, we don't want our parcel tax to pay for this school to prison pipeline!
Years of incidents like this one are one reason why Clorox moved 700 employees out of its downtown building a few years ago. Hey, burglaries in the neighborhoods are fine, but this downtown stuff is bad for business! Oakland - one of the half dozen most crime-plagued cities in the country. (P.S.: The Oakland poverty rate is the same or less than many much safer cities.)
High Noon in Oakland (OK, not exactly noon)
Oh yes... What a VIBRANT, THRIVING community it is.
Can we please get an honest, accountable police force? Pretty please? While we're at it, can we, as a community start "snitching" and drop the street crap?
Thank YOU! Yes!!!
@Anthony Moore Who cares where he filmed the video -- it glorifies reckless driving and promoted "hyphy" as an Oakland cultural expression, on our streets where we have to drive, too. It was especially shameful that Youth UpRising steered impressionable youth the wrong way when YU put its members into that video. But then, E-40 lives in a gated development in Danville.
@Charlie Pine... I think the video you are referring to was filmed on a closed lot at the old 7th Street Train station.
Researching AB 2679 it states that on solvents that are non flammable will be allowed. So Hydrocarbon Extraction will still be illegal with ETL and ANSI certified equipment right?
Thanks for the comment Hugh Morrison,
Bratton himself is a defender of broken windows-style policing. Here's an op-ed he wrote two years ago about it: http://www.wsj.com/articles/william-bratto…
Also, Kirkpatrick refers to Bratton as a practitioner and promoter of broken windows theory in her Chicago police chief application which is linked in the article above.
I'm not saying Zimring wrong; in fact, there are other people more closely associated with the development of broken windows theory, and its use by major departments. But Bratton is associated with it.
Way to go! Once again, instead of dealing with the real issue (the lack of housing and removing barriers to get actual housing built), Kaplan decides to slap fees on to landlords who did not create the problem in the first place. If renters are displaced because city building inspectors deem their homes hazardously noncompliant with building codes, why not instead provide ways for the landlords to bring the dwellings up to code so that the residents can remain? It's a tightrope balancing the needs of the tenants, who deserve and need safe quarters to live in at a reasonable price, with protecting the interests of the landlord as well as the city who can and already is being sued for not enforcing these safety standards. Kaplan should be doing everything in her power to help landlords bring these spaces up to code and instead she is slapping a few extra thousand on after the fact which doesn't help keep people in their homes. She just doesn't get it.
This "victim" culture and mentality is a ticket to nowhere.... Whine and cry your life away, while others improve their lives and community all around and in spite of you. Oakland "natives" need to protect themselves. They have no more right to housing in Oakland than the other 7 billion people on the planet
I have been told by individuals who used to work in JFHQ that the State Surgeon's Office case workers work for a private company, not the Cal Guard.
The way the SSO is run, you'd think they are ALL government employees. Has anyone ever tried calling the SSO? They seem to never be in, they don't return calls, they were a malignant tumor on me until 'they' decided how they could kick me out.
There are internal reports from the Guard that they are/were not in compliance with records management laws. Go figure. If you ever had some involvement with the SSO, your records went missing, were falsified, or they claimed that the MEB/PEB selection sheet went missing in transit while being mailed.
My original case manager was Lomboy, he told me he was let go in Fall 2012, how is it that he was still signing things off in the files for the MND cases that the SSO had open on me?
The SSO had also closed out a case, done, fin, zum ende. Why did they string me on as if it was still open?
And this is already TL;dr my unit....oh boy.

Regardless of price to portion issues, most restaurants/eateries at JLS are struggling... And there are a lot of places worth the trip! Check out Overland Bar & Grills new mostly mexican menu with the addition of gumbo, burgers and some american fare. Also the Authentic Bagel Company has just that REAL bagels! They offer them in traditional preparations and in their own sandwiches and plates.. and take a scone to go for later. Steel Rail Public House is also a must on your trip to JLS.
