Great biking/hiking trail with amazing views, little chance of getting lost!

Re: “REI Berkeley

Reliable goods, friendly service, great parking, easy to get to from most places (near I-880, for those of us who live down the pike a bit. The store has been there for decades, but never looks run down (amazing!).

Re: “Jean Sweeney Open Space Park

This place is going to be the best thing to ever hit Alameda. I can't wait to see what gems this huge piece of land eventually will offer to the community, all in the spirit of Jean Sweeney. I'm waiting for a community garden with garden plots and demonstration gardens, an urban orchard, classroom space for teaching about nature/urban farming/permaculture, bike trails, hiking trails, frog pond, play areas, open space with oaks, birdsong, quiet. May it all unfold in due time without a hitch.

Re: “East Bay Nursery

Get your out-of-the-ordinary veggie and herb starts here! They also carry fruit trees from L.E. Cooke and Four Winds Nursery. They are also one of the only brick-and-mortar stores around here where you can buy the best, longest-lasting gardening gloves on the planet: Woman'swork High Performance Working Gloves.

Re: “Pollinate Farm and Garden

Imagine not having to order backyard veggie / fruit growing supplies online--most likely they've got it! A dream-come-true for anybody who takes growing food in their yards seriously, or even semi-seriously. THE place to buy stone fruit trees grafted on rootstock that will survive oak root fungus (a huge problem in these parts) or not-so-common veggie and herb varieties. Super-knowledgeable owners; decent prices; airy, comfortable place for workshops as well as perusing. Best urban farming/food growing workshops around.

Re: “Books Inc. Alameda

The Alameda shop on Park Street has a great selection of greeting cards as well as books and other intelligent amusements. Low-key, friendly, airy ambience.

Re: “Feel Good Bakery

Go for the Zoe Buns on weekday mornings or the chocolate sourdough (goes great with a nice Zinfandel) on weekends. Rick Kellner, the owner of Feel Good Bakery, goes to the Nth degree to get the best organic ingredients for his products, then keeps the prices reasonable. Best employees at any food venue anywhere: polite, sweet, considerate. The owner is also is a founding member of Alameda Backyard Growers and delights in sharing urban farming know-how with other local Alamedans.

Re: “Blick Art Materials

Simply put, this is where I can get everything I need--as a practicing artist--online or in the store, especially the University Avenue store in Berkeley. Always helpful staff, fun to trade technical tips with. My only complaint would have to involve Holbein oil pastels, as in: they don't carry them, either open stock or packaged sets.
