Re: “Fiddler On The Roof

This is my review: http://www.examiner.com/review/tradition-a…

Or without links: Tradition at Oakland's Woodminster Amphitheater

Community theatre helps us stay connected and human in an ever-changing digital and fast-moving entertainment world. Outdoor musicals like the ones produced in Oakland's Woodminster Amphitheater at Joaquin Miller Park also offer an opportunity to turn an evening of theater into a wine-sipping, evening picnic with friends.

Half the joy from Woodminster's summer series is being in the open air as the night descends and under starry cover one can watch a favorite production. We caught the closing performance of Fiddler on the Roof and enjoyed wine, sandwiches and near-perfect weather.

The Woodminster Amphitheater in Oakland offers a summer series of musicals each year – since it's start in 1967. The open-air amphitheater is a unique venue and with no restrictions on food and beverages at the event you can join local insiders who turn the evening into a portable feast and nosh throughout the performance.

This year the summer musical offerings will continue after a successful production of Fiddler on the Roof with A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (in August) and a version of the inimitable Cats in early September.

It is a rare opportunity to see a musical in an urban, outdoor setting. Even more rare is the organizers' commitment to keeping the shows affordable and accessible. Partnerships with local businesses fund a program that gives free entrance for children (with adult ticket purchase see box office info for details). For many youngsters it is their first exposure to live theater.

Re: “The Goddess Collective: "Leadership with Love"

I appreciate this community of women because it represents more heart-centered connection and networking. I have made many dear connections that have supported the growth of my business, including life long friendships. Highly recommend for any woman living in the area to attend and to learn some keys to doing business in a new and effective way! Thank you Marta, Lisa and Sarah for holding such a beautiful vision for feminine leadership and changing the world.

It's The Wildness Within, rather than wilderness, but who's counting.

Re: “What To Do With Your Orphan: A Manual

Jennie Ottinger's alienated figures (you identify the images as exhibiting humor, ugliness, beauty: people become dolls, nuns, etc.....) have nothing whatsoever in common with Edward Hopper. To drop that sentence into this review without elaborating on it - and I believe the future of your thesis wouldn't stand up to elaboration - in my opinion, is the sign of an uninformed, naive writer. This is dreary, dismal writing, and worse, it displays a self assured quality on the part of the writer who is seemingly unaware of the fact that the writing exhibits a very shallow intellect.
