Oakland, Berkeley, And East Bay News, Events, Restaurants, Music, & Arts
Featured readers are often well awarded and published poets, yet the sessions in a private room in the restaurant are receptive and this is a good place for Open Mic where even a 1st-time reader can feel comfortable among the more established voices.
Can I tell a little more about the way I run this crazy thing? If you get up to tell a true story, you win a free drink! Spontaneous Storytelling is a monthly event combining the fun of meeting new people with hearing and telling true stories. How it works: When you come in, you'll be handed an icebreaker game card. The object of the game is to meet each other! You'll seed your mind with stories. After the game, it's time for open-mic stories using themes suggested by the audience. Put your name in the hat, and if you get called up to tell a story, you win a free drink! FREE.
Eat more! Drink more! Watch more TV! Procrastinate! Avoid the gym!
Resolutions are made to be broken.
That's why the theme for our January 2012 (optional) writing challenge is:
Join us on the last Saturday of every month for an evening of literary performances with featured readers, drink specials, and an open mic. We'd love to hear your poems, stories and comedic sketches on our optional monthly theme (or any topic). As ever, there will be some ridiculous prizes to celebrate your creative efforts. Or, you can just sit back, sip the tasty beverage of your choice, and enjoy the show!
Our January features are: LJ Moore & Chanel Timmons
14 open mic slots. Sign-up starts at 7pm and closes at 7:30pm when the reading starts. Each reader will have 3-5 minutes maximum.
But bring CASH if you want to buy drinks

This is NOT an event and shouldn't be listed here. They are open every weekend giving away books but selling the valuable books you donate on Ebay and similar.
a well attended gathering, BAPC has been around over a third of a century; yup 35 years plus, still going, fairly articulate bunch, some even know a few things about reading and writing; if the weather cooperates the event moves to the great outdoor backyard patio, bordered by Strawberry Creek
idiots capitalisimis in evitabled it is what it is i doubt verry much that an iteligent person cannot see and accept it
BASTARD is what's getting me to go the meeting in the first place. Well done. That guy is obviously a fascist.
Poets of the world Unite!
The only thing you have to lose are your rhymes.
You confuse readers with the wrong number of the month.
In other words, the date is October 3rd not 4th of 2009.
As stated in the recent "Anarchist Study Group" byline, the group's acronym doesn't accurately reflect its reported name. Check it out:
"Berkeley Anarchist Students of Theory, Research And Development" -
Is that right? "B.A.S.T.R.A.D."? ....
Gimme a "B"... Gimme an "A"... Gimme an "S"... Gimme a "T".... Gimme an "R".... Gimme an "A":.. Gimme a "D"...
What's that spell? "BASTRAD" [!?]
For christsakes, how are you going to overthrow the bloodsucking capitalist class and abolish the state when you can't even manage to create a decent acronyn!? Get with the program, you "bastrads!"
