Re: “Is Oakland Council President McElhaney Faking Sick, Canceling Meetings to Avoid Hearings on Ethics Violations?

Crooked Desley Brooks is leading the charge to censure McElhhaney?? Really? Brooks is hypocrisy personified. OMG, it's impossible to make this stuff up.

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

@ Peter Stokes: "OPD officers told me they live outside Oakland for the welfare of their families. I was stunned." You shouldn't be. The killers of Judy Salamon cheerfully threatened witnesses with death. Some guys are really bad characters. You don't want your spouse and children to have an "accident" on an Oakland street. * * * I've talked to officers who have rotated through many assignments, served in beats all over the city, and certainly "understand Oakland for what it is."

Re: “Letters for the Week of October 19, 2016

I also think that the Board including in its 12 year $120 parcel tax the provision that increase in the Board's middle school charter school enrollment, over and above any District middle school enrollment increases, will trigger a redistribution of District pay raises to fund addition pay raises for mostly non-union Board charter school employees is going to upset Oakland Unified School District employees when they see their pay checks being reduced.

Whomever thought up this redistribution of employees pay raise to charter school employees for Measure G1 should be fired. And, passage of Measure G1 means that this dumb idea will be in place for 12 years.

Anyone want to join me in voting NO on Measure G1 dumb parcel tax?

Re: “Oakland Struggles to Hold Banks Accountable

Once again council has failed in its' fiduciary responsibilities to Oakland's residents. Why isn't our Ethic Commission investigating this obvious failure to perform there sworn duties?

Its' a good that there are a lot of engaged, well wishing Oaklanders pushing our city sure ain't the council.

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

Re the garbage contracts, "cool" is the new "rigged."

Re the police (also firefighters and to an unknown extent public works personnel), it's astonishing that the widely-covered abandonment of New Orleans by police especially in the Katrina aftermath hasn't been taken as a model for what will happen in Oakland in the event of a severe Hayward fault rupture (due any time now, note). Unamazingly, under such circumstances people will prioritize the safety of their own families.

State law, passed by the Legislature in the '70s under union pressure, prohibits cities from enforcing residency requirements for employees, but one would think a simple sense of self-preservation would be enough to motivate the majority of Californians living in major earthquake hazard zones to get that changed.

Re: “Dan Savage: Discusing Trump, Misogyny and Sexual Predators with your Daughter

I was roller skating (metal skates tightened with a key) as a youngster very close to in front of my suburban home in Wakefield MA when a strange man exposed himself to me - I really had no idea what this was and stared. I don't recall him saying anything but he might have. He moved on and I went home. I don't recall whether I told my mother vaguely thinking it might have somehow been "my fault" - my mother was a classic over-reactor and would have gone after him with a baseball bat or worse and made a real scene - which I didn't like to see at the time! Nothing happened or so I thought but I never ever forgot the occurrence. I may have been six or eight when this happened. All this Trump stuff in the headlines is very distasteful to many.

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016.

Hmm, all that text and only one mention of climate (in the endorsement of Eric Swalwell, who sadly is no position to do much that isn't just rhetorical). I didn't watch all the video, but did the subject even come up?

Surely the critical issue of our time deserved more attention than that?

Re: “Marijuana and Election 2016: Grading the Candidates and Measures on Pot-Friendliness

We should all look at all the issues and everyone involved, not just what makes our like (me, myself and I) better off? It's time we act and vote like a country, together on the important things like Justice Reform. Because "No One Belongs In Jail for Marijuana"

Noel Gallo was the only one who voted against the garbage contract BTW... I think he's a pretty straight shooter.
