Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

What studies have been done using car simulators? Reaction times are surely quantifiable under these conditions so given enough subjects in straight & stoned states we can build up a reasonable objective database.

It's a serious subject that requires serious study.

Correction:
Tessa Schwartz (not Tracy Schwartz) is the name of the fiddler in 35 Year of Trouble. Helen Lude (not Lundee) is the multi-instrumentalist in the same band.

Sounds really good but when did breakfast pricing ascend to dinner prices? Not family friendly to average folks or to retirees for that matter. Love trying new restaurants but find ourselves staying home more and more.

Who's relatives/friends of Reid/McElhaney will be appointed to this board? Nothing like having government creating more government for non-performing tasks.

Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

They're testing is based on junk science there is only two type of THC out of 12, that is phycoactive, one is THCa once heated at 156^c converts to THC that is phycoactive the second is THCV which activates at 106^c and gets destroyed at 112^c and has lost its activeness above this temperature which is what they test for, the 9 known types of delta-9, 2 known types of delta-8, and 1 delta-7.

In addition to that, medical testing labs are not testing for THCV. They are testing for the presence of 11-Nor-9-Carboxy-THC aka 11-OH-THC/11-COOH-THC aka THC-OH/THC-COOH, a secondary metabolite of THC that is broken down by the liver when consumed. Depending on the accuracy of the testing equipment, they can further isolate 11-OH-THC and 11-COOH-THC to determine if the exposure was recent. When only 11-COOH-THC is present, the use would have been some time ago, but when both 11-OH-THC and 11-COOH-THC are present, the exposure would have been much more recent This is a great report on the entire breakdown of all the phytocannabinoids in cannabis but is not active at the time of testing. http://www.medicinalgenomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Chemical-constituents-of-cannabis.pdf

Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

According to the latest research cannabis doesn't impair the driver even if they have (3) times the 5 nano limit set by most states that have a cannabis DUI law.
The research reports that having THC in ones system,,even fresh, doesn't prove impairment.

What does prove impairment is a roadside sobriety test done in front of the dash cam on the patrol car,,and it doesn't matter what causes the impairment.

Re: “It's OK To Demand More Control And More Flavor From Your Cannabis Edible

Edibles dont have to have to look identical to other food. There are solutions out there! Edible manufacturers can use wafer paper, lazers, etc. to mark their products. The best part about using Cannacals is they dont require expensive equipment.

Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

This topic is always full of anecdotes. US DOT did an actual driving study that no one hears about because it didn't show marijuana to have that dangerous of an effect on driving performance, no worse than cold medicine in my opinion. If you actually care here is a link: https://ntl.bts.gov/lib/25000/25800/25867/DOT-HS-808-078.pdf

If Driving High isn't a punishable offense as Driving Drunk is, we are doomed.

Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

No one should drive a car while intoxicated on anything ever. That being said people in the United States have been driving under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs and cannabis in ever increasing numbers since the mass produced automobile was invented. Alcohol and prescription drug intoxication are commonplace as the direct cause in a very large percentage of all fatal auto accidents. Over 21,000 traffic fatalities a year are directly attributable to alcohol and pharmaceutical drug intoxication. Both alcohol and prescription drugs are well known statistical serial killers both in driving and in life in general.

Marijuana prohibitionists are doing and saying everything and anything possible to make cannabis look bad. They nit pick every possible aspect of cannabis consumption in an effort to stop legalization. Even so, there is no real statistically significant data in the crime logs year to year about cannabis and auto accidents by comparison to serial killers prescription drugs and alcohol. All automobile accidents with fatalities require full spectrum blood toxicology for all the involved drivers. If cannabis use did cause large numbers of driving incidents we would see it in the news and the statistical data and we do not. To the best of my knowledge ( I have checked thoroughly), not a single police agency in the US even keeps statistics for fatal accident caused solely by cannabis intoxication. Every police agency in the nation shows ever increasing numbers where alcohol and pharmaceuticals are cited for traffic deaths.

I am completely against anyone driving intoxicated on anything and support severe penalties for intoxicated drivers, but the silly "OMG cannabis users are going to start driving and cause a rash of accidents" argument is just more reefer madness nonsense and has absolutely no basis in actual crime statistics!

Legalize, regulate and TAX!

The new ruling being proposed for CA would limit "Edibles" to 10 mg serving only.

Re: “The Future of Driving, Marijuana, And Being Stoned Behind The Wheel

The Drug and Alcohol Crash Risk report, produced by the Department of Transportations National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, found that while drunken driving dramatically increased the risk of getting into an accident, there was no evidence that using marijuana heightened that risk. In fact, after adjusting for age, gender, race and alcohol use, the report found that stoned drivers were no more likely to crash than drivers who were not intoxicated at all.

Re: “Oakland Officials Are Divided Over a Proposal to Create a New Department of Violence Prevention

What troubles me most is the way our elected officials speak to each other. I am weary of the antics and disgusted by the trash talking of some on our city council, Reid, Brooks.... while complaining about the the ways our city doesn't work. Perhaps more civility and etiquette training would be a better investment of city funds.

Re: “Golden Road Brewing's Meg Gill Visits Oakland To Defend Controversial Plan To Open Beer Garden

They are still set on using, disgusting, dirty, dingy, SHIPPING CONTAINERS for this project. No way, let them spend some money on a nice looking building! They have it, lots of it! Get an architect, sister! And they MUST provide parking in this area, no waivers for parking. Their need to stay open till 2 AM will not work for the neighbors whose homes back up to the Brewery. We are saturated with alcohol establishments in this area and do not need another, especially one connected to Anheuser-Busch InBev. YUK! We will continue to flyer and let people know about this wolf in granny's disguise enterprise in the Temescal!

Re: “Golden Road Brewing's Meg Gill Visits Oakland To Defend Controversial Plan To Open Beer Garden

Why do people pretend parking is the issue? I think the issue is an already gentrified neighborhood whining about anyone else being able to enjoy it.
