Re: “It's Time to Restrict Groundwater Pumping in California

More importantly Califonria needs a modern and massive desalinization program ot provide drinking water AND to recharge the aquifers that are so depleted subsidence of soil is occurring through out the Central Valley. New technologies using graphene hold the promise of very low costs for desalinization and may make it competitive with current costs. Ag needs water and so do people. A zero snow pack means water for neither will be available. Governor Jerry is playing with his train set in Sacramento while a terrible crisis is occurring under his nose. We should also stop fracking which wastes water and increases cancer causing radon levels. Governor Jerry is far past his prime and seems confused at times. Perhaps he should consider stepping down and letting his Lieutenant Governor take over stewardship of our beautiful state.

Re: “Asian Seniors Misled About Lake Merritt Luxury Tower

Misleading tactics by those invested in processes where a lot of money is at stake, is not surprising. The fact that the city does not (or did not in this case) provide translators at public meetings where development of a public parcel impacts a community that is largely Asian and monolingual is either tone deaf or a sly oversight. With city coffers standing to gain more than 5 million dollars in the sale (which some believe is too little a price for this land) and some members of the planning commission with stakes in the matter, I wonder. Having lived in San Francisco for 10 years and being forced out by high rents, gentrification and the dot com bubble, this all sounds mighty familiar.

Re: “Asian Seniors Misled About Lake Merritt Luxury Tower

How nauseating. Will Oakland's City Council do something about his fraud? Or is it business as usual? As for the LLC can they be banned form doing business in Oakland? If not the Council should torpedo all their projects and put them out of business. The Asian seniors who were misled deserve an apology if not from the LLC goons the City Council and affordable housing! This is a kind or nasty racism not needed in Oakland or anywhere else. And just who owns the LLC. Put up their picture in City Hall with a not welcome sign over it and shame them.

Re: “It's Time to Restrict Groundwater Pumping in California

Here is a map that looks at the lowering water table as California groundwater is pumped faster than it is being replenished.

http://www.mappingsupport.com/p/gmap4.php?ll=36.263100,-119.477691&z=7&t=m,Groundwater_change_11-14&q=http://www.propertylinemaps.com/p/public_land_map/state/CA/CA_groundwater.txt

When this map opens each dot is a well. If you zoom way in then a label will appear by each well showing the change in water level for the period 2011-2014. To see the map legend and learn how to turn other GIS data layers on/off, click "About this map" in the upper left corner of the map.

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

I worked in Downtown for twelve years and i have seen and heard of a many of shootings n that area. It was not the clubs fault. If they closed every business that someone had gotten shot by or in front of nothing would be downtown. There was a shooting at city hall should we fire the mayor and close the doors? There has been numerous shootings in front of delaurs newsstand. Should they close? Dont forget burger king rite aid and walgreens. Which have all had the same incidents. So tha businesses arent the problem

Re: “Note to Readers: Why the Express Now Capitalizes Black

White has as much history and culture as the rest of us. It's actually offensive, and I'm surprised to read that "Whites..do not have a unique culture and history" in the Express. if nothing else, you have a history and culture of oppression...racism...colonialism..."wars on terror"..."wars on drugs/crime/blackbrownmen." To those of us who aren't white, y'all look as much alike as we look to you. White is not the base, the norm, nude, a blank slate. Nah, y'all come with strange quirks that confuse, annoy, and humor the rest of us. you also come with built in advantages...historical and cultural advantages. Why pretend there's no team at the top? Let's name it: White! Identifying traits and being proud is not the same as believing your team superior. celebrate seinfeld, not hitler...wear j crew, not white ghost gowns with pointy hats...listen to your fleetwood mac and journey, but don't call the cops because youre bothered by rap or tamborazo. "White" is no more or less complicated or simplified than the rest of us. Caps for everyone!

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

Hahaha^ Hi Life caters to the elite?!?! White privilege???!!! It's a fucking arcade that serves beer and pizza. HARDLY racist, gentrified or elite. Get the fucking chip off your shoulder. You're just mad because Oaktree shut down. That's not Hi Life's fault, fool. He spoke up for what we ALL have been thinking. Everyone in the neighborhood, at the GB, etc knows that Vinyl is a problem. He just said it out loud.

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

When it's a black man in Missouri, White Oakland rallies under the guise of "not pre-judging an entire group based on a few." When it's a Black man in Oakland, White Oakland pre-judges Black business owners, their patrons and the entire "lowest common denominator" community. White Oakland loves Black people...when they are thousands of miles away.

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

The owner of the pizza place/arcade is a racist. When i found out an arcade opened up across the street from the closed down oak tree i told everybody!!! Theres anew arcade. There was an influx of black youth and their parents that lasted two weeks before youth were no longer allowed. Stating it was a 21and over spit...
.but its a pizza parlor....hes a super dooper gentrifier who co owns more than one of these new hipster businesses that cater to the elite and wanna be elites.he probably has his eye on the vinyl.

Theres alot of racist remarks on here. Remarks that ylu wouldnt have ever heard in the commemt section of the east bay express prior to gentrification

And that pizza place owner. Thats staright while privledge. He thinks he can do whatever the fuck he wants to. Maaaaan! Pre ge trification white people were never allowed to walk around oakland that bold. Pre gentrification oakland white people knew how to talk to a black business man like he was a grown ass human being. I

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

How many patrons are in the club? 200? 300? You have THREE guards, probably unarmed. How is that going to keep down problems? One unarmed guard per 100 patrons is hardly "security". Clubs and bars need to take safety more seriously....

Re: “It's Time to Restrict Groundwater Pumping in California

It takes three gallons to produce one walnut and one gallon to produce one almond. If we continue to allow the mega farm to bleed the life out of California, where will we live. Look we have enough water for one year. By then the cash cow will drop to her knees.

Re: “Vinyl Nightclub Wrongly Blamed for Shooting in Downtown Oakland

Maybe Mr. Lefebvre should have put in a public records request for calls to the cops related to Venue before he wrote this. This club is a problem.

It's not about race either. I don't see other Black-run bars having anything like this kind of problem. The New Parish doesn't seem to have violence in front of it every weekend. It's not about race, it's about Oscar Edwards being willing to turn a blind eye to shady clientele that most other bars would tell not to come back.
