Re: “On Class, Race, Culture and the Anti-Trump Movement

US/Western Culture is again channeling our perceptions, wrongly, into an either-or paradigm. Reality is multidimensional and multi-causal. US political issues are about BOTH-AND race and class and they are largely inseparable. Bernie Sanders makes the same mistake that socialists and folks on the left have frequently made: that class is more important than race or "identity politics." He wants to draw us into a class struggle within and to reform the Democrat Party. This is a historically proven mistake and a waste of energy. Read "The Miner's Canary" for examples of how to form successful coalitions across lines of both race and class.

Re: “PG&E's Assault on Solar Power

There should be restrictions on emitting such large amount of CO2 greenhouse gas into the atmosphere. The latter is the issue the governors should be constrained about, rather, they should praise all the benefits that solar companies bring out. As a user of the services of LA Solar Group, I would advice you to purchase their solar powered panels, as they provide panels with great mechanical engineering designs.

Re: “Oaklanders: Next Police Chief Needs to 'Clear Out Bad Apples'

Mr. Johnson,
Unless I misunderstand, the writer is reporting on the results of a survey, not advocating any particular approach. What combination of Gandhi and Patton would you like to see here in this age of police militarization, hyper-surveillance, unaffordable housing and progressive/wealthy population that is currently in place in Oakland? This is a multi-layered issued; for instance, the Oakland police have been operating under court order for how many years now - 13 (

Re: “On Class, Race, Culture and the Anti-Trump Movement

More than anything, the election illustrates fragmentation. The "them's" are large and many; The "us" is small and few.

Re: “Congresswoman Barbara Lee on President Trump: 'The Fight is Coming'

It's a shame that someone like this, could get elected to Congress.

She spends her time spending other peoples money to get her self re-elected to office; I wonder if she has ever had a job in the real world.

Progress made in the last 8 years; 25 trillion in debt, more people on public assistance , foreign policy decisions that have been a disaster.

There is nothing like a sore loser, especially when that sore loser is a big government liberal!

Re: “Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf on President Trump: 'Move Beyond Anger to Action'

It's a shame that Oakland has a Mayor that needs a civics lesson.

Her comments about progressive values is what got defeated in November, people are sick and tired of career politicians taking other peoples income to finance their personal and social agendas.

It's unfortunate that we have elected officials that take an oath of office and then do everything they can to violate the very oath they have taken to uphold the law.

Re: “Lawyers Guild Decries Oakland Police's 'Brutal' Tactics Against Trump Protesters

Cat, the vast majority of Oaklanders are with you in your efforts, but disgusted by your passive attitude about collateral damage. I've seen anarchists injury innocent people. It's hard to reconcile empathy for the oppressed while making victims of innocent residents, business owners and their employees. There is a tsunami of voices building that wants the obstruction of downtown streets and destruction of property to come to an end. It's been going on for over SIX years. OPD reported over 180 protest events and record breaking overtime pay in 2015. Oaklanders overwhelmingly supported progressive measures and political leaders in our most recent election -we should not be injuring our local community.

Re: “Oakland Officials Describe Vandalism After Anti-Donald Trump Rally As Some Of Worst They've Seen

@Rob Appeldorn: why would anyone protest in Oakland when Obama was elected? They celebrated. But white Republicans most definitely did violenty protest Obama in red states. They lynched Obama in effigy, they called him the "N****r president", they burned signs of him, some KKK people protested in their robes, NC State Univ. students spray-painting "Let's shoot that N****r in the head" and "Hang Obama by a noose." I guess you conveniently forgot their racist hatred, violence and property damage.

@Charlie Pine, hear hear. How do we get monitors to attend? I want to be involved in peaceful demonstrations and I don't want to be associated with people breaking windows, throwing paint, setting fires, etc.

Re: “Oakland Activist Cat Brooks on President Trump: 'My Revolutionary Prayer'

When will the black on black genocide be acknowledged and become equally denounced? I live in East Oakland and with in a five houe radius, one family has lost both of their sons, another family lost a daughter, the other 3 lost a grandson each. All these murders were black on black killings. Facts prove that more black men are killed by black men then by any other race or law enforcement every year. I don't understand why there is not marching in the streets for that, why is this loss of so many black lives not a reason?
