Re: “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

hey arbed, there are 2 condoms but only one picture. one condom has DNA the other doesn't.

"The same forensic teams found DNA thought to belong to the WikiLeaks boss on another condom, which was submitted by the second alleged victim."

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-22…

and moreover, the film does not attempt to litigate the entire case. it simply makes the point that the sweden allegations are a matter to be decided in a court of law in swedem not in the court of public opinion and DEFINATELY not in the court of psychotic Assange supporters which you appear to be becuase you are trolling every review of this film with the same boring post about the DNA.

i doubt you even saw the film, you just read the "transcript" (which by the way ommitted every single on of bradley manning's words which are displayed as text on screen and not spoken- Assange has basically written manning out of the story, which is very telling and very pathetic).

The private sector never sleeps in its attempts to steal from the public treasury. Let the UC syste4m develop its own on line program. Say NO to private so-called educational companies raiding the treasury.

Re: “Wednesday Must Reads: Oakland City Unions Schedule Strike Vote; NorCal Farms Struggle to Meet Demand for Rabbits

The small print to the misc unions' statement explains that 27% is the sum of the furloughs plus the foregone annual cost of living increases that in the past were automatically given. Does the 27% also include an additional contribution they now make to their pensions?

So other than the furloughs and possible increase in pension contributions, the rest of the 27% was not a pay cut but a loss of expected raises.

I wouldn't be so sure that most of the wages paid to misc City employees is spent in Oakland. I could see that a disproportionate number of misc employees do live in Oakland and are the highest wage earners in their extended families, thus having a greater effect on poverty than say job training programs. But that's conjecture.

Re: “Privatizing UC Instruction

On line education with accreditation is the essential element missing from without the system. The best educators can offer their services to many more students than brick and mortar can. The competition for students time and monies will do the system good and probably put a break on the unbelievable inflation costs of college degrees.

Re: “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

But seriously.

Why do journalists continue to call Assange "enigmatic?" In every interview I've seen where he is not under attack, he is plainspoken and upfront.
Here's a recent example. (Questions in Spanish, but you don't need Spanish to understand his answers.)

Re: “Drakes Bay Oyster Company Still Has Ties With Koch Brothers-Linked Groups

Mr. Gammon might do better putting in his job application with the Internal Revenue Service, where guilt by association with conservative principles seems as rampant as in his writing here. Rather than let the courts decide the matters, this article demands its readers convict the Drakes Bay Oyster Company based on its accepting some help from those who believe government outreached its limits. It seems this tactic is endemic among liberal thought and practice these days - and that must be resisted by all, lest liberals themselves are next to be persecuted by the folly of thinking that association with those having common legal thoughts is a crime.

Re: “Jerry Brown Fails to Live Up to Rhetoric

The so-called "smart growth" housing projects have been colossal failures where they have been mandated by law.

Portland, Oregon is famous (or infamous) for dense housing plopped down willy nilly in residential and other areas, housing that specifically underestimates the number of parking spaces required. The end result has been the spread of sprawl across the Columbia River into several Washington counties, and the repeal of the statewide land use plan that restricted suburban sprawl. Even worse, a small percentage of residents use mass transit than did before the "eco-conscious" higher density projects were built.

The lack of parking spaces has led to the joke among my friends that the only time the residents of these new developments use mass transit is when they ride it in order to pick up the cars they parked blocks away in other neighborhoods. The resulting street chaos led one family I know to relocate far from their old home in an older Portland neighborhood to a newly built house. Another family relocated from their fine old large northeast Portland early 20th C house to the far suburbs when the "mixed income" development turned into a nest of thieves and criminals. In both cases people who formerly used mass transit for everything from getting to work to getting the kids to school and activities now drive everywhere. Other people I know relocated because of the noise of higher density housing plopped into the middle of quiet older residential areas.

Re: “Drakes Bay Oyster Company Still Has Ties With Koch Brothers-Linked Groups

Considering that the efforts to evict the oyster company depended on misleading and outdated studies done when the firm was under different ownership and the fact that there are few resources for those threatened with displacement by everything from RICO through redevelopment to environmental regulations, one cannot blame the owners for turning to the few sources that offer help.

I do not notice that Mr. Soros and other alleged friends of we "little people" ever actually help those whose property or livelihoods are by government efforts to seize or evict. Indeed, when the owners of a small motel were threatened with losing their livelihood to a RICO action over alleged drug activity at their business (fewer than 20 drug cases out of literally thousands of room rental nights) they could not find any support except from one of those evil "right wing" organizations.

Those who are made "uncomfortable" by an environmentally sustainable business accepting what help is offered it need to consider a course in logic to better understand the fallacy of guilt by association - as otherwise they will find themselves denouncing Planned Parenthood because of its long term and continued support by "eugenics" advocates.

Re: “How to Animal-Proof Your Garden

We have found that using a low double electric fence wire - one about 4"-6" high, the other about 1' high - is the only thing that keeps Br'er Coon out of our yard. Coyote urine sometimes works on repelling female coons.

Dogs are effective, if they are experienced and from one of the serious coonhound breeds, or a coonhound-Airedale "catch dog" cross. The results of such encounters are not pretty, and a pair or more is best. They must be trained to never disturb deer and other game animals.

Re: “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

Great Aunt Sophie has returned from Provence, where she has been working on “We Suck Sealtits: The Story Of GibneySqueaks.” She would not reveal how much Disney Movies paid her for the rights to her biography of Alex Gibney.

“Did you interview him?”

“I took him to McDonalds, bought him two Double Quarter Pounders with cheese, bacon, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard, and a chocolate chip mocha frappe. He talked for six hours about Julian Assange spreading his seed. And he wanted to be paid.”

“How much?”

“He said the going rate for an interview was twenty-five dollars. I refused, of course. But I’ve interviewed his mother-in-law, three of his ex-wives, his seventeen-year-old daughter, his lawyer, his psychiatrist, his hairdresser, his dog-sitter, a US Navy SEAL, and the Pope.”

“Gibney has a hairdresser?

“Had. I don’t want to spoil it for you.”

“What’s the deal with the SEAL?”

“He plays Battle Hymn of the Republic on a set of diatonic bicycle horns.”

“How’d you get him to do it?”

“Two hundred and fifty million herring.”

Re: “Pet Care Through the Years

Some of us are allergic to dogs or cats and aren't really happy with the idea of dogs being present everywhere. I will note that if it is somehow "reasonable" to take a dog or cat anywhere and everywhere, it should be considered equally reasonable for someone to take a chicken, a goose, a small donkey, a pony, or a boa constrictor anywhere and everywhere.

Re: “Raw Pet Food Diets on the Rise

I enjoyed the article; it provided an interesting glimpse into raw pet food culture. Having worked in the pet food industry for the past twenty years, I have seen many changes and the raw pet food movement is long over due. There has been a sea change in the expectations of pet food buyers as well as greatly increased scrutiny regarding ingredients and manufacturing process. We have a more educated buyer class and deeper concern regarding sourcing. I would like to direct readers and raw pet food enthusiasts to www.thetruthaboutpetfood.com. It is a terrific resource and they have a wonderful section called "Pledge to Quality and Origin of Ingredients". This lists pet food companies willing to make a pledge to full disclosure regarding ingredient sourcing. The companies listed represent a fraction of the 300 plus pet food companies in the US, but those that took the pledge have opened the doors to scrutinizing and discerning pet food consumers. The question I would ask is "why haven't all of the pet food companies mentioned in this article taken "the Pledge"? Only one company has....

Re: “Wednesday Must Reads: Oakland City Unions Schedule Strike Vote; NorCal Farms Struggle to Meet Demand for Rabbits

The misc. aka non-sworn city unions are reaping what they sowed by supporting binding arbitration for fire and police over the years which gives fire and police more bargaining power than SEIU gets from striking. They still have time to start a charter initiative to repeal that. But that would look "anti-labor" so they won't.

Re: “Raw Pet Food Diets on the Rise

Primal Pet Foods is a privately owned San Francisco based company that began pioneering commercially available raw pet food over 10 years ago. We openly share all of our ingredient sourcing information and provide the highest quality, safest, and most complete diets in the category. The author and Heidi Hill should have done a better job checking their facts before publishing statements to the contrary.
