Re: “Elk's Lodge Walnut Creek

Great show to attend if looking for anything old paper or history related letters, post cards, vintage photographs of the old west or your favorite town. The dealers at the show are allso Buyers of what they are selling, from old trip scrap books to the old family photo album from the civil war to the Exposition trip mom took in Seattle,or the brochure grandma got while in Yosemite. Many items to see, suggest to arrive early if you love to read or see interesting items..

Re: “Sola Lucy Montclair

Fab store. I always love dropping by to see what they have. New stuff is always coming in and it's well curated. Friendly staff too. They don't have attitude. I'm always greeted with a smile. Even when they tell me they have to pass on something. I'd shop there regularly even if I didn't consign! So much of my wardrobe is from them now I rarely shop at big box stores. They have another store in Berkeley too, but I really love Montclair!

Re: “Modern Coffee

A coffee shop with soul and community. Definitely worth going out of your way to enjoy a truly amazing coffee (and tea) experience. Those who live/work nearby are lucky to be able to make this their daily stop. Kudos to Kristen and her partner Tina Nemling!

Re: “Rivoli

We have been there about 7 times over the past ten years. It is great everytime. If you want a fine dining experience in the East Bay it would be my top recommendation. Skip the overly hyped -- and not so great places -- like Chez Panisse and go here instead.

Excellent. Best cinnamon rolls in the City of Berkeley that I have tasted.

Re: “Haven

Not sure when this review was written, but I couldn't disagree more. Chef Alter has a firm grasp on flavor profiles and composes plates like a true artist. In a single dish, the diner can have half a dozen different bites, each for foretelling techniques that take hours to execute. Chef combines texture, temperature, and taste in manners that keep your palate interested and eager for more. She does plays on many foods that bring back childhood memories in a sophisticated way. And the source ingredients are as fresh and seasonal as can be.
I get around to many restaurants, but this one keeps me coming back for more and more. Hands down, my favorite Oakland restaurant.

Re: “Studio 23

The Studio's actual grand opening is Sept 13th! However, we will be chillin' in the studio this Friday night. So feel free to stop by! We have quite a bit a work up from various bay area artists on display right now. Plus we have a huge ROBOT, "Friendly Lord Zondar". You can see some of the work on display here: https://www.facebook.com/Studio23Alameda

Re: “BUILD Pizzeria Roma

This is my favourite place. The ambience, bar, the freshest ingredients to create my "inner Pizza" and the very acceptable pricing.

Their beers, and cocktails are crafted by the best bar staff in the area and the restaurant brings in families, academics, students, lovers and friends. I highly recommend BUILD.

Re: “Bibliomania

This is an excellent bookstore. Jean and Daryl are very knowledgeable and helpful. I always find something at Bibliomania. Jean knows what I read and will e-mail me or tell me when we cross paths in the neighborhood about a book that might interest me. Bibliomania is conveniently located a block from the 19th Street BART station on Broadway, and there is plenty to do in the neighborhood, including the Fox Theater, Rudy's Can't Fail Cafe, and Fox Square Park. I highly recommend Bibliomania.

Re: “Smoke Berkeley

Smoke Berkeley is really good. My favorite is the pulled pork sandwich with spicy vinagre sauce, with corn bread. And the pies are dreamy!

Re: “East Bay Spice Company

East Bay Spice Co. is charting a new frontier in the Bay Area's culinary cocktail scene. You'd need a constellation of stars to do it justice.

One must try: Ornament of the World. It's unlike anything else.
