Re: “Oakland's Biggest Landlord is Fighting For His Life in Federal Court

Community Fund LLC owns many properties like 408 Tennessee Street in Vallejo California. That particular one they just bought for $225,100 about 5 months ago and they already have it listed for sale for over $450,000. It is filled with squatters who are destroying it and terrorizing the neighbors. The police go about once a week and get them out but they go right back in. The police say the owners are not doing enough to secure the property and that the police aren't the property owners private patrol. The property is in much worse condition and the owners are not concerned at all with the welfare or safety for anyone. The City of Vallejo, other cities, the State of California, and the Federal Government should all document the properties these companies own and ensure they stop allowing the drug dens, prostitution homes, gang member havens etc these alleged racketeering scammers are operating or allowing. It's quite possible they are also collecting money from the drug lords who are also renting rooms out to squatters, prostitutes, etc in many of these properties like this. There should be a huge class action lawsuit by all neighbors of their properties as well. I'd love to be contacted if/when this happens and might be starting one myself if I don't find one soon.

Re: “ACLU of Northern California Asks Immigration Courts to Immediately Provide Media Access on Behalf of Express

Courts security must be sworn officers with legal training concerning the scope of their duties. Private security guards have no place in the court house screening process.

Re: “Advocates Criticize Alameda Sheriff’s Cooperation with Immigration Enforcement

The law is far from being immoral. Having borders to delineate sovereignty is necessary.

Those ILLEGAL immigrants are here ILLEGALLY. Should we tolerate lying, cheating, and stealing? That's immoral in my book.

Re: “Advocates Criticize Alameda Sheriff’s Cooperation with Immigration Enforcement

A lot of folks complain that undocumented workers have broken the law. Have you ever considered that slaves in the pre-Civil War South broke the law when they set foot off the plantation? Or that the Surpreme Court ruled that no black person was a citizen, North or South, and could never BE one? The law was immoral then, and it is immoral now. If we benefit from the sweat of another human being's brow, then we must repay him or her. People who pick our crops and hoe our fields and tend our children are being hunted down on our streets and cities and farms. This must stop. Undocumented workers cannot change the laws but We the PEOPLE can, and it is our responsibility as decent people to do so.

Re: “Biff’s Coffee Shop In Oakland Was Googie Glory

We can continue to build nice tall, generic buildings if that's what people really want, but a restored Biff's would have been a hit with the new Millenials as architect Roy notes. We've seen a resurgience in bowling at the Plank, and restored Kwik Way/.Merritt, which someone will probably try to raze again soon. That leaves the classic Alley on Grand which has become a hit with Millenials despite it's run down state. And that's exactly what pepole want; not another expensive skyscraper. Oakland has had a rebirth of modern ,, trendy restaurants , which is great , but lets not let the town loses its old soul. Thank god for the Paraount and Fox theaters https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=7299998174811532615#editor/target=post;postID=4427836600293029248;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=0;src=link

Re: “ACLU of Northern California Asks Immigration Courts to Immediately Provide Media Access on Behalf of Express

Jim Mzt, in this case the public is allowed. Reporters are specifically targeted for removal, even though they "obey the policies or laws that the public must obey." So what justifies removing the reporters?

Re: “Advocates Criticize Alameda Sheriff’s Cooperation with Immigration Enforcement

These protestors should follow the immigration law. If they are not legal residents they have to leave that is the law. The Sheriff Department is doing it's job correctly. UI applaud them for that.

Re: “ACLU of Northern California Asks Immigration Courts to Immediately Provide Media Access on Behalf of Express

We need to make some changes to the so called rights of the press. They should have to obey the policies or laws that the public must obey. They don't get a free pass to anything only to what that are allowed.

I've been a bit dissatisfied with many films of late, but it looks like Kelly and I share similar tastes, so I'll check this one out.

Re: “Casey Affleck A Misfit Again in Manchester By The Sea

I wish I'd read this review before I tried to sit through the film. It was the second-worst film I'd ever seen, behind the abysmal Riding in Cars with Boys. Dull, lifeless, painful, dreary doesn't seem to explain it well enough.
I imagine it's actually quite difficult to make a movie both simultaneously boring AND confusing, but Manchester by the Sea did it. That alone deserves some kind of award. I got through about 80% of it before switching it off.
Like I said, I wish I'd seen this review first. I want my 90 minutes back.

Re: “Berkeley's Special City Council Election Zeroes In On Housing, Homelessness Issues

Ben Gould has no experience but school and is in his early twenties. Kate Harrison has worked in government for at least twenty years. She is also invited as a consultant around the world as governments try to improve their system of governance. Kate managed the SF entire court system for years.

This kid, Ben, tells completely different speeches depending on his audience. He's a classic flip flopper: he says progressive things to progressive audience and conservative things to real estate interests.

We need honesty and ingegrity. Kate has it and Ben's wildly divergent campaign speeches suggests he'll say anything to win, which indicates a lack of integrity.

Interesting that you only have his campaign donations through 2016. He is said to be raking in real estate money and he has been seen meeting with Tom Bates, our finally-gone bad mayor.

Re: “Biff’s Coffee Shop In Oakland Was Googie Glory

Let's face facts. I knew Biff's as a kid long, long ago. Even then it was kind of seedy and run down. By the time it shut down in '96, it was more than tired.

Euphoric recall is wonderful, but it's also a fantasy... Today being driven by what I think of as carpet baggers... People who came here long after the glory days of the east bay, ignoring the blight that it became and to an extent still suffers from... Boarded building, out of control city administration and rampant crime in the streets.

I don't see anyone complaining about the loss of the Merritt Bakery. It was open 7/24 had great inexpensive food... and tended to catch fire from time to time.

It's time to rebuild Oakland, not worship a long gone past.

Re: “NBC Paid for Ghost Ship Operator Derick Almena's Hotel Room During Exclusive Interview

What the fuck, Charles C. Eroster?! Who the fuck do you think you are? You obviously have absolutely no fucking idea what you are talking about and it is people like you who would (and did) elect a white supremacist fascist to reign over the FREE states of America and kill all hope for anyone other than idiot middle class white men to live peacefully and happily in the country that promised them "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." You are the disgusting storm cloud that robs all the sunlight and beauty from the world and I hope that your life is doomed to mediocrity and you die knowing that you did this whole thing called life completely wrong.

Re: “Biff’s Coffee Shop In Oakland Was Googie Glory

It seemed possible to plan a taller denser residential building toward Broadway, and to keep a googie icon. The building was pretty cool at one time, particularly loved the big windows and the rounded interior dining room.

Re: “Comedic Web-Series The North Pole Takes on Gentrification in North Oakland

Does the producer of this series not realize that he's part of very gentrification that he's lampooning? And that rather than shine a light on this issue, he's just contributing to it. Potentially profiting from it. Maybe his friend Dania should have mentioned this to him rather than stating that people from North Oakland are polar bears and having him listen to a Mistah FAB song.
