Re: “Get Creative About Conserving Water

The showerhead referred to above stops the hot water flow, but it doesn't stop the cold water from running out the shower while it's warming up. It's not going to save water. The best way to save water in the shower is a 1.5 or 2 gpm showerhead (free from EBMUD) and a bucket to catch the cold water and then get in right away, get your business done and get out. Better yet, turn the water off while you are soaping, shampooing etc....

Re: “Top Twelve Dive Bars in the East Bay

It's not listed, but Smitty's on Grand Ave is a pretty solid dive. Can't wait to try Baggy's.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

A well-written article. I forgot to add that.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

I like the little innovations but living in a dilapidated neighborhood near nothing inside a rectangular metal box makes me feel claustrophobic. I welcome innovation but I don't want to live in an episode of the walking dead minus the zombies.

Re: “A Surprising and Effective Way to Reduce Waste

Just wondering about all the environmental benefits of all those dining-out customers driving back and forth to get their meals/turn in their reusable containers.

I wonder when someone will come up with the environmental benefit of learning to cook the food you grow in your garden.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

I hear that Chinese workers have been living in converted shipping containers for years. It seems various humanitarian groups have complained about this for years.

I wonder who has to clean up the pollution caused by those Tiny Houses that lack sewer connections?

Nothing like making slumlords trendy.

Re: “A Surprising and Effective Way to Reduce Waste

This is the second best news I've heard all week! (The first is Hillary Clinton echoing Robert Reich's talking points on her "listening tour.")

P.S. I'm booking a reservation at Standard Fare pronto!

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

Shipping container houses aren't new and Iseman and Stewart's design and construction is amateur at best. Plus if you watch the video you'll see they were renting substandard homes with no sewer connection to other people. There's a word for people who do that: Slumlord.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

I just saw a great blog by a Realtor in the Bay Area on this topic: http://kristenvonbargen.com/2015/04/14/home-design-space-saving-ideas/

The soaring housing costs in CA are really pushing us to do what many Europeans (and other cultures) have done forever.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

Instead of high-density high-rise blight, put tiny houses on the land and let people live at a human scale.

Re: “An Innovative Solution to Soaring Housing Costs

I would love to build a tiny home for under $5,000. Are there any good free resources out there that can help me learn what exactly I would be getting into?

Re: “Can I Recycle That?

Anyone know about milk and juice cartons? They have layers of paper and plastic, but are often not recyclable.

Re: “The Vegan New Wave

You don't need to be vegan to appreciate the businesses and products talked about in this article.

10/10 would recommend.

Re: “The Vegan New Wave

I loved reading about the burgeoning Vegan scene in the East Bay. I live in North Marin and travel to Berkeley specifically to support Republic of V. They have an amazing variety of products, from oldies to goodies to the latest foods on the market. It makes me do a happy dance just thinking about! I'm also a big fan of Souley Vegan on Broadway. and Herbivore downtown. Vegan Power!

Re: “America's Only Japanese Beer Shop Opens in Oakland

In CA, you can only fill growlers if you're a brewery...so no can do Ajen Birmingham.
