Re: “Peak Sausage and Beer

North San Pablo Ave could totally support one of these sausage and beer places. If one of these downtown locations fails, consider trying again in North Oakland!

Re: “Despite the Hype, Daniel Patterson's Haven Flounders

I read this review and wondered if the author had visited the same restaurant I had. On three visits to Haven, in which we ordered the market menu each time, the food was amazing, plentiful and inventive. The smoked pasta is to die for! Service was always good. Are you sure you went to Haven?

Re: “'Fauxnuts' and More at Uptown's New Sweet Bar

So great to have Sweet Bar in our neighborhood! It is just wonderful, and more delicious items are appearing every day. Particularly brilliant are the "Sweet Bar" cookie, made with whole wheat and white flours, the agave-sweetened lemon tart, and the above-mentioned vegan, agave-sweetened faux-nut. The pretty tattooed girls at the counter are friendly and the diverse staff can be seen bustling around with baking trays.
Plus you can get beer and wine in the evenings, since the previous occupant had a license. Check out the menu at the site: http://www.sweetbarbakery.com/

Re: “Off the Grid to Make Its Oakland Debut

Why would they choose Fridays, when once a month they come in direct conflict with the art murmur? This is a food truck bonanza in it's own right...

Re: “Heart and Darkness

I love the Heart and Dagger for an afternoon lazy beer with dogs and friends! Sitting on the friendly patio watching the dogs play while sipping a beer and laughing with friends is all I need to make it a great day!

Re: “Oakland's Food Truck Future in Limbo

It's just more evidence of our failed government in Oakland. No vision for our city, no goals set, no overall management capacity, no leadership, no accountability, no transparency. The result in recent weeks: food truck policy a shambles; police department to be managed by Federally-appointed "compliance director; inability to decide on new dog park at Lake Merritt; half-baked attempt to deal with graffiti; "Ceasefire" violence-reduction initiative without required full-time project manager; no interest in comprehensive crime plan; failure to make crime-reduction truly a priority; Mayor invisible--too busy on foreign jaunts to deal with real problems at home. And so forth.

Re: “Oakland's Food Truck Future in Limbo

"Selling without a permit" is a misdemeanor? Good grief, don't we have REAL crime to worry about?

Re: “Oakland's Food Truck Future in Limbo

Mobile food vendors are screwing local brick n' mortar businesses, how is that OK?!?!? Businesses that pay (or lease) property have to pay property taxes and they will be hit hardest because landlords aren't bringing lease prices down. This is going to lead to even greater retail vacancy than we already have to a wasteland of vacant buildings in Oakland. Short-sighted city officials have no clue what they are doing. Food trucks are great in an environment where there is no room for more businesses because all of the commercial space is taken. What the city should be doing is working harder with property companies and landlords to get the commercial vacancy rate down in Oakland. Anyone who's looked at leasing property here can tell you that the commercial lease rates are horribly out of whack for the properties being offered.

Re: “Nick's Pizza Is an Oakland Original

@Emilie, I'm partial to the cookies myself, but I did find it endearing how the mousse was served in a little plastic cup sitting inside another one of those faux-wood bowls. =)

Re: “Nick's Pizza Is an Oakland Original

You forgot to mention the to-die-for chocolate mousse with sea salt caramel on top... ridiculously awesome!

Re: “Mixed Mex

Sorry but I can't stand when people try to turn something that has already been perfected into some fusion bullcrap with courses the size of my palm. Not having it. Oh and XOLO is terrible Mexican food that's overpriced. Just an opinion of course. I live in downtown Oakland and so far we have no Mexican food resturaunts worth going to. Have to go to East O for that. Someone come out with a classic taqueria in the downtown area that is actually good please!

Grundoon, I thought there was noodle as well as pork skin, at least in this version, but I stand corrected if I'm mistaken!
