Re: “An East Bay Pimp Trafficked Her Daughter. And the Man that She Turned to For Help Exploited Her For Sex.

This is very terrible. I have had to take anti-sexual harassment training every other year at my job for about a decade now, so am familiar with the legal issues. This sounds like something that could result in a civil suit against BAWAR for the very issue of exploitation of clients by counselors identified in the article. They are liable for that and the resulting psychlogocal/emotional trauma it caused this woman, who should have been safe and protected.

Unreal. How could he even contemplate something this stupid?

Re: “#PhilandoCastile #AltonSterling #BlackLivesMatter — Share Your Words and Thoughts With the Express

Police need to be trained under fully adrenalized practice scenarios to minimize perceived threats to their own safety by methods other than murder, especially because adrenaline spikes are a huge contributor to nearly every circumstance of violence onto or by police. Police also need to see themselves as spokes in the wheel of society rather than a massive wrench that needs to bend the wheel to their own will.People of all backgrounds need to work together harder, teaching adults and people in power how to approach one another more thoughtfully. Some people say we shouldn't be prejudiced because we are all the same. That's a sweet idea, but really stupid. Because we ALL have prejudices that won't just disappear even though we want them to, we must instead constantly force ourselves to acknowledge and work with those prejudices instead of trying to ignore them.

BAWAR needs to open up publicly about this terrible breach of ethics. Otherwise, how will anyone trust them after this?

Re: “Thousands of Black Lives Matter Activists Shut Down Oakland Freeway, Vandalize Police Headquarters

Similar to "Occupy" this is nothing more than a collection of misfits whose parents didn't pay enough attention to them.

Where is the "Occupy" movement these days?

Re: “Jet Martinez Brings a Floral Green Flash to Downtown Oakland

As a father to a young child, and a person invested in the success off the collective, the value and importance of this kind of artistic care in our urban environment must be recognized, fostered, and acknowledged. Truly, a beautiful creation.

Re: “Federal Police Officer Offered to Pimp East Bay Teenager at Center of Oakland Police Sex-Abuse Scandal

This article illustrates my point this it NOT just about the private sex life of cops. Which now we know the REAL reason these people were REFUSING TO EVEN SPEAK TO OUR ORGANIZATION www.sexworkersanonymous.com But know this - this is not UNIQUE. This same scenerio has now taken place in Ohio, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Texas, San Diego, Tennessee, Atlanta, and now California. Over and over and over again we're having these "anti-prostitution" and sex trafficking task forces REFUSE to have anything to do with our organization who by the way STARTED THIS MOVEMENT (would you really try to help an alcoholic without Bill Wilson or AA?) and we've seen over and over and over again the truth come out as to the fact they were covering up something of their own. The PRESS STILL refuses to include us in the discussion, to the point of even blocking us from commenting as the Los Angeles Times has done, and yet WHAT'S CHANGING? I STILL don't hear anyone calling us up talking about what they're going to do about the fact not only are these programs and task forces REFUSING to even allow us to attend their meetings, let alone be involved in any capacity, but further our groups which meet in these area's have all reported back to us they were being threatened away from doing outreach, holding meetings, or even speaking to women like this Celeste calling our hotline. My complaints to the authorities of the threats we've been receiving steadily now since 2013 when we get calls from women like her to "back off" speaking to them are also going unresponded to. For THIRTY YEARS NOW we've proven where we've been involved - we've had a positive impact at getting these women help. Also for this same time period, we've seen over and over again where we're excluded, the problem is at it's highest because of police either being the traffickers, or customers AND traffickers, at the same time. I say that because anywhere I've seen the cops be having sex with these women I've ALSO seen them backing up the traffickers such as the Joohoon David Lee case out of Las Vegas - a Homeland Security and ICE Officer which by the way = how come the LA Times, ABC, CBS, CNN or no other major media reported on what this guy was doing along with the fact he's not been charged with sex trafficking - only bribery? Believe it or not, Narcotics Anonymous has the SAME problem as this back in the 1950's and with cops involved within using drugs and dealing. They found a way to work around it. So I'm asking - what are we going to do to change this problem? Because I also don't hear anyone talking about the MONEY WASTED HERE. Money which was supposed to be helping women like Celeste to get services - was just put into people's pockets which these cops also actively blocked her from getting any help and then threatening us when we take calls from girls like her. So WHAT'S GOING TO BE DONE NOW ABOUT THIS?

Re: “An East Bay Pimp Trafficked Her Daughter. And the Man that She Turned to For Help Exploited Her For Sex.

I'm being subjected to near fatal whistleblower retaliation in Oakland, and anywhere I go. [Lawyer desperately needed to save lives]

In 2014 Swords-to-Plowshares.org raped me in a manner described by hate crime & acknowledged doing so to many others (shown 'souvenirs' and told they're entrapping, raping, & killing Veterans with hate crimes) when attempting to obtain permanent housing/employment through their agency. Justice remains obstructed, with near fatal harassment daily ever since per StP's threats.

Their criminal acts destroyed my housing & careers (leaving me homeless as acknowledged by VA therapist despite the VA being acknowledged by my attacker as their friends) then threatened me into silence with their gang & have nearly killed me several times & harass me daily while agents attempt to solicit me for prostitution after displaying the same threatening gesture as the StP agent who apologized for their crimes, bought me coffee & informally paid me a few gift cards for food before having me tortured per the United Nations definition. (Which is ongoing to the point of my praying to God that i do not wake up the next day, every day.) This past week strangers have begun slipping me unknown poisons/drugs again causing more damages. Their crimes have destroyed my entire life (finances, relationships, careers, etc.) Email is best for now, but i am desperate for help & have DVDs/footage of the constant harassment. Police report (see below RD#16-010658) has been filed but I need a lawyer.

It's so beautiful that words aren't enough. Among many things it's a reminder to me of what we can do if we are thoughtful and brave.

CHP should put their ticketbooks aside, break out the batons and get those lawbreakers off the streets within the hour.

Re: “East Bay Environmentalists at Odds Over Future of Eucalyptus Trees

How much money is being spent on this project? With people losing their homes, record numbers on food stamps, stagnant wages, and we're talking about trees. Misplaced priorities. Spend the money where it's needed most.

Re: “Thousands of Black Lives Matter Activists Shut Down Oakland Freeway, Vandalize Police Headquarters

This just in (my mailbox) from your Mayor:

"As a white woman, I can't pretend to understand fully the pain, the anger, the frustration and the fear that many in our communities of color feel..."

White people don't have compassion? Politicians don't pretend?"

"As a civilian, I don't know intimately how police officers around the country and their families are grieving..."

As a civilian you, as Mayor, are directly responsible for Oakland's police department about which you are obligated to have just a smidge of intimate knowledge.

"But as your Mayor, what I do understand is the need to change this reality because neither our communities, nor law enforcement can continue on this trajectory we're on."

So you've finally come around, after 14 years in city hall, to recognize that there's a problem?

"I have talked often of how Oakland is trying to change this narrative, the progress we've made in principled policing in Oakland and about the fact that it's still not enough as evidenced by our police department's most recent struggles, but this is not the time for that discussion."

If now now, when?

Re: “Mama's Royal Cafe Is for Sale

Thanks, Luke! Have followed the Miliki story a bit, but was never sure whether that was the same chef. I certainly hope they find a way to make it.

As for Mama's needing an update: only a few details, perhaps, like fixing the stools (and maybe some fresh paint)! When it comes to retro/camp, that place is already the real deal!

Oakland doesn't need a Mama's Redux with Edison lightbulbs and faux-industrial fixtures, any more than it needs yet another hipster beer garden to replace Miliki. Stick with the genuine article!

Re: “Mama's Royal Cafe Is for Sale

Love Mama's grits and hash, but man that place needs a serious update. Getting very tired and worn in a not-good way.

Intentionally or not, law enforcement is always part of the business plan of drug and human trafficking.

Re: “Zero Days: As the Worm Turns

Alex Gibney is hardly the one to "dig up" the cyberwar scare. There have been numerous documentaries on PBS about it. They have discussed Stuxnet at length.

This topic per se is not just an outrage movie - it's about life now.

While online data leaks affects consumers, businesses are now incredibly concerned about cybersecurity both for their customers as well as protecting their proprietary info. The utility industry is paranoid (but should be more so) about infrastructure attacks.

Janet Yellen, head of the Federal Reserve has already called cybersecurity the number one threat to the U.S. economy.

This is all far more important than the Repblican witch hunt on Hillary's email server.

The number one country in state on state cybersecurity is China.

The Bangladesh Bank attack threatened to create havoc in all of the world's banks, and we do not really know yet who the attacker is.

While Eastern European and Israeli and Argentinian hacker companies have decades of professional hacking under their belts, they will never be as fully funded as state hackers who have unlimited budgets at their disposal.

We weren't the first to launch an attack and we won't be the last (with Stuxnet)...

Re: “#PhilandoCastile #AltonSterling #BlackLivesMatter — Share Your Words and Thoughts With the Express

306 people have been killed and 2,066 have been shot and injured in Chicago in 2016 alone. Hundreds more are dead in Baltimore, Detroit, st.louis, basically any black urban area is plagued by violence and death so I find it really had to get worked up over some extremely awful errors by law enforcement. But what is the real problem? Y
