Re: “Wednesday Must Reads: Oakland City Unions Schedule Strike Vote; NorCal Farms Struggle to Meet Demand for Rabbits

The misc. aka non-sworn city unions are reaping what they sowed by supporting binding arbitration for fire and police over the years which gives fire and police more bargaining power than SEIU gets from striking. They still have time to start a charter initiative to repeal that. But that would look "anti-labor" so they won't.

Re: “Raw Pet Food Diets on the Rise

Primal Pet Foods is a privately owned San Francisco based company that began pioneering commercially available raw pet food over 10 years ago. We openly share all of our ingredient sourcing information and provide the highest quality, safest, and most complete diets in the category. The author and Heidi Hill should have done a better job checking their facts before publishing statements to the contrary.

Re: “Wednesday Must Reads: Oakland City Unions Schedule Strike Vote; NorCal Farms Struggle to Meet Demand for Rabbits

Yes, but the non-sworn unions say they are down 27% in pay and benefits while the police will be getting a 4% raise. The non-sworn, account for a much smaller part of the city's budget including future costs in pay and benefits. For instance, civilians are capped at $425 a month for medical which will no longer cover a family. OPD sworn personnel still get much higher retirement/medical benefits.
Non-sworn union employees think the city should do more to rein in police costs such as paying out lawsuits for abuse. Remember when the CC decided to pay out the personal liability for officers who publicly and wrongly strip searched suspects. This was paid despite a judge setting this as the officers' penalty for wrongdoing plus the $5 mil the city paid out on its part. The unions know they can't be made whole, but because they gave voluntarily, they want some small increase as consideration for their willingness to work with the city.
And, of course, we know that pay to local workers stays in Oakland, for the most part, but most police live outside the city.

Doesn't the Mayor's budget have a 9% pay increase in it, because of the elimination of furlough days?

Re: “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks

Wikileaks has leaked a full annotated transcript of the film, with links to documentary evidence rebutting many of the claims made in the film. I think in fairness to your readers you should maybe update your article to include it at the bottom, to at least alert your readers that a lot of things in Alex Gibney's film are inaccurate.

wikileaks.org/IMG/html/gibney-transcript.h…

As an example, here's one Wikileaks note that deals with how the Swedish allegations are treated and why Alex Gibney chooses to show a photo of a condom that Assange is accused of "deliberately tearing" from the police forensics file without telling his audience that forensics found no trace of anyone's DNA on it:

wikileaks.org/IMG/html/gibney-transcript.h…

That's either extremely poor research by a film-maker, or biased smear.

Re: “I Went to an ICP Show Last Night and I Think I Might Be a Juggalo Now

I wonder if this lady knew the story behind ICP if she would still think the music is horrible.
How many people read the book BEHIND THE PAINT? If you did then you would realize Violent J and Shaggy are religious and so is their music. A lot of their songs talk about going to heaven and believing in god.
If you don't believe me read the book and then listen to the last song on Shangri-La the wraith. Its called the unveiling.

I'm not religious in the slightest sense of the word, but when I found out that they were it made me respect them even more.
I got mad respect for you guys.

MMFWCL to all the 'los and 'lettes !!!

Re: “I Went to an ICP Show Last Night and I Think I Might Be a Juggalo Now

Last Oct I went to my first ICP show. I've been down since I was 15. After all the years and abuse i recieved for liking them and their music I was a closet addict to them. I got up my nerve to go, by myself, in detroit and all i heard were comments about how dangerous it was. Im not even 5ft 100 lbs and female. It was the nicest group of ppl i have ever seen at a concert (and i go to a LOT) just alot of general good humor and true excitement. I got so caught up in the show I forgot i even had a drink in my hand. These are amazing ppl with (i think) amazing and valuable music.

Re: “How Affordable Is Affordable Care?

Well considering a 63 year old person with the same $45,000 income will have to pay $356, then I guess by comparison, your $263 is "affordable".

BTW, that 63 year old without Covered California would have to pay over $600 a month for Kaiser, even if their income was only $25,000 a year.

Re: “Where Are Los Angeles' 135 Legal Medical Marijuana Dispensaries?

There is more to what meets the eye. As far as I Know, the 135 collectives that existed in 2007 half of those don't exist anymore. What I heard through the grape-vine was that there is only like 40 that are still operating which where grandfathered in. Lives, families, and jobs are going to be destroyed if this measure takes into affect. The city is also going to loose tax payer's money to use law-enforcement for shutdowns, not only is it a waste of money but a waste of time. Whats really going on with this city? It breaks my heart to see these innocent people in the marijuana business to go through stress that leads to mental illness. These people help people that really need the help by providing medicine that helps them cope and get my by with their day.

GREAT! Well deserved!

Do they have a category for cover graphics? I think the Express would win hands down.
