Had a really good time there during happy hour last night.
Awesome food and atmosphere. The owner is incredibly accommodating and conscientious of the guest. Love the variety of food and multiple beers. The patio on a sunny day is THE place to be!
They made me the best grilled goat cheese sandwich ever! And a Redbull vodka to go with it.
Sushi Sho is the best Sushi in the Bay Area. It is very traditional Japanese, so people unfamiliar with Japanese culture might find it too simple or too austere. Nonetheless the quality is unbeatable. As my Japanese friend says: it's the closest to being in Japan as you can get in the Bay Area.
My grandmother passed away a long time ago... but my family and I swear that on Sunday's SOUL'S somehow wakes her from the Grave to cook... SOUL'S is a wonderful place to eat... Awesome food, Great Service and just as SoulFul as Sexual Chocolate...
Make sure you have had nothing before going to the Sunday Brunch. it's pure Gluttony. They have large tables and Chairs that make you feel comfy too... I like that. It's about $20 for the all you can eat sunday brunch... it's SOOOO worth it!!!
This may be the best donut that I've ever eaten. This cute shop, demurely situated between a falafal shop and a junk store, and conveniently at the mouth of a 19th St Bart station entrance, keeps me always wanting another. Firstly, the donut I can only describe as "cake" but it doesn't leave that heavy, "why did I just eat that" feeling in your stomach. It only leaves you wanting more! A sucker for chocolate, the first donut I had was the chocolate glaze. Unlike the Krispy Kreme, or Dunkin' style glaze, Donut Savant has a thick, Julia Child-style dark chocolate ganache spread atop each cake donut. It is unreal how delicious it is! The other styles and flavors I have tried are similarly delicious. I can also attest to the delightfulness of the seasonal pumpkin donut.
To have been in Oakland all these years and still be here standing tall. Says a lot about the longevity of a good time in the East Bay! Under rated! Should not be over looked! :-o
What you didn't tell readers is that the truck in the back has great seafood tacos and ceviche at low prices. Otherwise the menu is the same.
And if you want more radishes, just ask.
The Dragon Rouge Vietnamese Bistro is Outstanding. Great atmosphere with a great view of the Estuary and the Park Street Bridge, as it enters Alameda. The menu is fairly small in items but giant in its' adventures of flavors and beautifully presented Vietnamese dishes. The staff is very professional yet friendly. From the Greeters, and the Runners, to the Servers, you always feel welcome and part of the family. The co-owners, Dan and Jimmy, are always around to answer questions or extend their greetings and best wishes. A full bar compliments this wonderful experience.
I had a great time. The music has a nice old school back in the day Silks feel. I highly recommend checking out Body Language Thursday Nights at Lukas!
This is the best breakfast place in Oakland. If not on the planet.
Love this place! Line out the door for big plates of brunch yummyness
In my travels, I often think of Oakland's amazing food offerings and the Vegan Catfish plate with everything at Souley Vegan is like Christmas Morning to my mouth!! It was like $19 or something, worth twice that! ~ This kind of knowledge deserves reward!!! Cheers!!
It was amazing! 3 time customer!!!
last time I was there they said they were closing :( and becoming a 'Van' cool :) I'll look for them the next time I am in Oakland, which I hope is soon!
The Artichoke Bean Baked thing was a Vegan Orgasm!!!
I've eaten everywhere, and I love Marica's. They do wonderful fish, are fairly priced, and have a wonderful wait staff who make the dining experience terrific. Zagat rates them a 27 on food, which is only one star less than chez panisse and stars ahead of Oliveto, Bay Wolf, etc. It is a great local place to eat.
Best late night food in Downtown Oakland. And they don't gouge you for it either.
Also, there are only two bars in Downtown that are open on Sunday nights and that are worth a damn, and Disco Volante is one of them.
And beyond that, the staff is excellent, and so is the atmosphere.
the food at disco is out of sight! hot smoked pork belly? yes please! the wait staff is always very friendly and accommodating. the cocktails are nicely made. plus the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beer and wine they serve.
i've played here a number of times, so i'm really not sure what the extremely negative review is about here. i've never been hassled in any way by the owner. he's a great guy, and a straight shooter.
come down to disco volante for some great food and drink. support local musicians!
Fresh and local! so far had breakfast, lunch, and (early) dinner there. While the menu reads quaint and descriptive (typically German!) all dishes were absolutely fabulous and delicious, and surprisingly reasonable.
The salmon was buttery and melting in your mouth, with a nice crispy pan-seared crust on top. The rainbow chard (usually not my taste) was surprisingly flavorful, slightly on the spicy side (good!), and with great texture.
All breakfast choices were fantastic - try the jams and meats! Delicious home-made rolls, with tasty and zesty marmelades, soft and flavorful cheeses, and buttery eggs from the oven with home-made quark. Yummi! Together with the very kids-friendly service and environment a great place to go - alone, with my family, with friends.
