Amazing and total mix-it-up venue; though you never know what event is going on when you show up, they always deliver, the security is fabulous, the staff is courteous and inviting, and the decor is freakin awesome. The have 2 different rooms you can dance in and one whole bar room all equipt with gold couches and hand painted coffee tables all over (they even have cute stenciled F8 logos in the corners!). Even in the backroom, which is smaller, the DJ is heard completely and without any clash between the the smaller and the larger rooms and it looks like they actually take care of the decor; there's a giant mural on the back wall that is apparently changed seasonally. I would totally recommend going here on a night with the bands (Tuesdays,) or for Housepitality (free champagne from 9-10) or on Saturdays when Trapp City is hosting the evening.
Awesome food and atmosphere. The owner is incredibly accommodating and conscientious of the guest. Love the variety of food and multiple beers. The patio on a sunny day is THE place to be!
They made me the best grilled goat cheese sandwich ever! And a Redbull vodka to go with it.
They've got cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, free popcorn, a jukebox, and cheap drinks.
They ahve excellent food (now with REAL FRIES) and great staff members, not to mention a great drink selection and cool atmosphere. The people watching from the covered patio is great, too. And, ahem, trivia night.
Best dive in the East Bay hands down!

Yet another black bar to get eat'n by the hipster gentrification wave. Ugh!
What does the first line in your review mean, dorseydon? Inside joke of some sort? Inquiring minds need to know!
Clean, well lit, friendly and warm (must be the fireplace). Best open mic in the East Bay because it is a songwriter's open mic (must play at least one original to perform at all).
I had a great time. The music has a nice old school back in the day Silks feel. I highly recommend checking out Body Language Thursday Nights at Lukas!

I dont think they have karaoke on Wednesdays
Best late night food in Downtown Oakland. And they don't gouge you for it either.
Also, there are only two bars in Downtown that are open on Sunday nights and that are worth a damn, and Disco Volante is one of them.
And beyond that, the staff is excellent, and so is the atmosphere.
I am a musician and have performed at Disco Volante three times. I (and our band) have been treated very well, Damon has been enthusiastic, helpful and supportive. The staff has been friendly and capable. I don't know where the critical person is coming from. I have only the best to say about Disco Volante. Randy
the food at disco is out of sight! hot smoked pork belly? yes please! the wait staff is always very friendly and accommodating. the cocktails are nicely made. plus the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beer and wine they serve.
i've played here a number of times, so i'm really not sure what the extremely negative review is about here. i've never been hassled in any way by the owner. he's a great guy, and a straight shooter.
come down to disco volante for some great food and drink. support local musicians!
Re: “Egbert Souse's”
Avoid Egbert Souse's on Piedmont Avenue. Egbert Souse needs to be closed! Egbert Souse's is a nuisance at all times of the day and night. Egbert Souse has a negative impact on Piedmont Avenue residents, visitors and businesses. Egbert Souse's customers are always blocking the sidewalk in front and around the bar. Fights break out at least twice a week (including with weapons). Customers sit in their cars playing loud music while drinking and using drugs. The City of Oakland has even filed lawsuits against Egbert Souse's. How many people have to be shot and killed at Egbert Souse's to get it shutdown?
