Re: “Dick Holes

If you don't have the patience or dexterity for a few months of gentle finger stretches with Betamethasone (prescription) ointment then the surgical remedy is NOT circumcision. It is bi-lateral dorsal slit with transverse closure, which amputates no sensual tissue.

Re: “Beyond Anarchy at PM Press

The right to disassociate as well as associate has, to my knowledge, always been a rather important aspect of anarchism. He did the best thing he could in the situation, and it in no way goes against anarchist principles. It's not like he destroyed AK Press when he left, and if he'd rather spend his time with something else, well, why the hell not?
The remaining members of AK Press still have their egalitarian model set up, and they don't have to deal with a person who'd rather not be a part of that particular model anymore. It's a win-win.

Re: “This Exhibit on Environmental Degradation Is Just Sad

Understandably, one would like to be fed another utopian hope (to stir one's emotions) when confronting failed past utopian endeavors. But wouldn't that be missing the point? I agree that this work might invoke sadness, despondency, and pity. In my opinion, that allows one to begin the process of looking at our environmental/cultural/economic status from a responsible point of view, instead of swapping new utopian visions for the old ones.

It is also understandable, in a capitalist system, to expect art to distract, entertain, offer fantasy or escapism- but it takes courage and conviction from an artist to present the reality she sees, even if this causes discomfort. Congrats to Ms. Escott.

Re: “Cheap Wine, Free Cheese

I don't know if I can think of anything better than cheap wine and free cheese! Except for maybe some deluxe residential windows in vancouver. It would be pretty close though.

Re: “This Exhibit on Environmental Degradation Is Just Sad

It's so interesting how differently people can respond to the same art and the manner in which it is presented. If readers would like an alternative perspective, I thought I'd share this link to a write up about the show by Abigail Doan of The Wild Magazine:
http://thewildmagazine.com/blog/alicia-esc…
Of course, I also hope people will come check out the work themselves this weekend before the show closes.
Thanks for taking the time to visit and respond to the show.

Re: “No Longer a Ben & Jerry's Flavor, Wavy Gravy Is Still Mr. Softee

One little correction: At Woodstock, Wavy called it the "please force", not peace; as in "please don't do that, do this instead."

Re: “Tom Waits' Junkyard Jazz Juices Up 'Woyzeck'

The album Blood Money is superb..not weird or harsh or clamorous. Just listen to All The World Is Green, and see how he uses a whole new muted instrumentation of stroh violin and clarinet to create a pocket world embued with sadness.

Re: “Defending Nonmonogamy

Dan you are a Westcoast hero! This first segment struck a chord:
"Successfully nonmonogamous straight couples typically aren't out to their friends, families, and co-workers. We tend to learn that someone we know is in a nonmonogamous relationship when it implodes and people — both inside and outside the relationship — cast around, looking for something or someone to blame." So I decided to delve into the conversation

Re: “Hit Me with Your Best Shot

Yes, an effective technique is screaming to the top of your lungs, and then running as fast as you can (if you are able to, if not the scream will work wonders).

Karate trains the mind, body, and spirit. Training the spirit teaches one to remain clam, think clearly in most situations. One thing I was taught when I was younger because I never hit anyone was to hit to never hit. Training in the dojo is to understand your body, gain information about what the body can and cannot do, and to understand the damage it can do, to respect the techniques, and the people...

Karate begins and end with respect. Train you body, mind, and spirit. Never give up. Keep trying. Try your best to improve who you were yesterday. This is karatedo. :)

A traditional martial art isn't about maliciously hitting someone, it is about not hitting them, instead, thinking, adapting to the situation - it is a way of life!

Check out the new school in Pleasanton: http://www.trivalleykarate.com for more information on karate. Also, it is a way to train for the unexpected, you never know when you, a friend, your family's life will be threatened.

Re: “Resurrection of Rappin' 4-Tay

if i knew 4-TAY was still doin his thang, won't miss me there to appreciate REAL WC RAP in it's different sub-genres. a legend in it's own right, 4-TAY repped early in WC hiphop when there was not much support or history to learn from, putting it down for the playaz, those who don't know are missing out!! like G-Funk here in the LBC, you won't find music anywhere else with this sound and feel! if you reading 4-Tay, yo, you inspired many that you don't even know about. keep doing it in Cali and worldwide and thats REAL TALK.

Thanks so much for bringing these books to the spotlight. Another way parents can easily access all of these gems in one room is to support Green Branch. We are a new nonprofit library for youth of all ages, and we focus on books dealing with social justice and environmental issues, fostering a love of community activism for a new generation. Check us out:

And support all these amazing authors, with us, or at neighborhood bookstores.
