Great! arrangement for both the family members and pets. I think this is the best place to enjoy with the family friends and pet friends at the same hotel with all the luxurious facilities.
I love this event! Its so different than everyday life. Ive been going for several years. Still waiting on my email invite :P hope to come again this year!
I love this party. I've been going for years.its already herd again, Only a couple weeks a way
I took a walk in the park. However the idea of supporting our local small business and artists is really a good idea. I grew up in a suburb that only had chain stores, we are blessed in Oakland and Berkeley with cool stores locally owned, and even if it costs more it is money well spent me thinks.
Good choices. Also try camping at Hendy Woods State park in the Anderson Valley, Mendocino. Not too far away and you have the entire Mendocino Coast to explore. Also much wine tasting most of which is still free. Good restaurants too.
All good choices. I like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland, as well. Check it out.
If in childhood we used to enter the rollicking learning martial arts(http://www.bgsportshots.com/index.php/2015/11/06/martial-arts-benefits-of-martial-arts/), and when our friends rollicking also moved into other fields while we are a very few still enjoy practicing martial arts, then it is indeed a blueprint in the cells we carry. God or nature (depending trust us) had been decisive so.
There are still many people who think that practicing martial arts together with the practice of violence. Because there is taught how to punch, kick, attack, dodge and parry, or using a martial arts weapon which is a general movement in a fight. Moreover, coupled with action films or stories that always associate martial arts action violence.
What a bunch of hooey. Internet order beans when there's tons available locally? I've been grinding and brewing coffee undoubtedly before the author was born. I started out with and sometimes still do pour over. Not any better than a quality machine. Paper vs gold filters- no difference in taste.
Awesome. I've been cutting way back on meat to reduce my carbon footprint. Whether I go all the way vegan or not, it would feel great to support these places and to feed my sweets addiction at the same time.
I basically agree with what Gary said and also feel a disproportionately large influx of a particular demographic has overrun SF, causing a great loss of its charm by pandering to new money. Northern CA is a special place (at least for me over my 30 years here) as an earthy, connected, easy going, and communal lifestyle.
However, I do really appreciate the discovery and appreciation of Oakland by newbies. I like the ideas that are pouring into Oakland now and think this generation's influence, if it can keep it humbly grounded, can accentuate the Oakland/Northern CA experience that in this tech age seems to has left most of SF homogenized and detached. Cool, local, homey or exotic neighborhood stores offering take-out with an Oakland connected vibe have a place and should be appreciated on what they bring to their locality. To me, that's what I USED to like about SF.
I suggest El Campesino Bar And Grill at 232 23rd Street- across from the O'Reilly's Auto Store. Very nice and HUGE space. Food pretty good. Staff friendly but slow and aloof at times (if that makes sense). Nice addition to the neighborhood.
YUMMM! La Selva is AMAZING!! You can smell that amazing meat cooking from blocks away! Just wait 'til your first bite!
Crazy how the story lead to this comment dialogue. Everyone take a breath... try to find what you get about what the other person wrote and see if you can actually communicate. Oakland is not a 100% mess and where it's headed is not 100% horrible or 100% great. So step away from the corners and have a dialogue. Howden Market seems like a great idea. I do hope they're able to sell some lower cost items. I've enjoyed much of what's opened across town over the last five years, but things are starting to creep up price wise. Steel Rail Cafe in Jack London Square has many low cost items and it's been instantly popular.
The Melitta paper filters aren't all THAT bad. And Chemex are are only marginally better, and a lot pricier. Both need to have a bit of boiling water poured over them once they are in the cone, before the coffee is added. This washes away any loose fibers and removes the objectionable "paper" taste. Both brands benefit from this treatment. Once this is done, the difference is only in the price.
Sweet Maria's is the BOMB!
You forgot to include the importance of a good paper filter. So many people use those cheap Melitta crimped-edge paper cones for their drip/pour-over. Those filters are awful. Get the Chemex bonded paper filters: SO MUCH BETTER tasting coffee! Thankfully, with the growing interest in pour-over brewing, they are finally easier to find once again. But in a pinch, you can get them thru Amazon (prime, of course!).
Gary - Most of the "life long Oaklanders" are dead. Oakland was over 80% white in the early 1960's. Now look at the stats on the interactive map @SFGate: Oakland STILL has over 2x as many violent crime incidents as other Bay Area cities. Let's not celebrate "real Oaklanders vs newcomers" when all that past nostalgia led to was a dead-end city of growing slums, cheap fast food chains, and a dying downtown.
As for "eating out 3+x wk", get real. When a couple works 45 hrs/wk plus commute time, good quality take-out is a lifesaver. The days of women staying home and cooking all day are long-gone, and good riddance to it.
