She should be horribly embarrassed. She may be a creative and hands-on chef but obviously she's an awful operating partner. Shame on her.

Agreed very interesting piece and why I think it's critical that old and new neighborhood restaurants that are the real deal owned by folks from that culture get supported. Aztecali is my latest fave for what they are doing--serving high quality food at a reasonable price but here are so many others as well all over Oaktown. Koryo at 44th and Telegraph (sushi and udon noodles etc) is another--not pretentious with boxes stored in the restaurant and a fish tank and it's even in the Temescal--hope it never changes one iota. .Thanks Luke for trying to keep them coming and making sure they are on our radar.

I took my grandmother there for lunch yesterday; met nothing but super-friendly folks on the way there! Loved the tuna sandwich!
They were closed at 8 am because they don't open until 10:30.
I've been 40 years on 26th street a few blocks away. This deli is a gem for our area. Just like Brown Sugar at the other end of 26th street, If you put out good food and atmosphere you will do great. I love West Oakland and am so happy i can walk up the street to get an awesome meatball sandwich.
An east coast classic italian sub would never have mustard and would have diced pickles.
I love this place and what they do for our neighborhood! The food is great and are bringing life back into a struggling area. And the fact that everyone envolved in this place is actually from here. And with affordable prices, pinball, good food and babes whats not to like?
Seriously great food and great vibes. It'll be tough to get me out of there once the beer starts flowing.
Oakland is changing. If three owners work two days on and one day off. and if they hire nothing but independent contractors, and buy the building , they can survive while the area improves. Customers love a long term relationship with owners who know and like them. 2 on and 1 off means always two working, and it means that weekend work rotates fairly. We needd more owner operated expert shops. Ray Thollaug
And when I drove by on 5/31 at 8am, the shop was closed. I predict full failure within 6 months
What a godawful location! Literally one of the most concentrated areas of drug dens of Oakland. I am required to do business ½ block from there and really hate leaving mymy vehicle unattended. I live in East Oakland and I know bad. The new owners certainly didn't do their homework. Sorry guys, too much trouble for Boar's Head cold cuts...
Too bad! I really like the place and their beers, specially apricot ale. But now that I know about them now wanting to unionize..., I will stop drinking their beers
I think Ecetera Wine Bar in SF has been serving flammekueche since 2012. Nice to have something like that in the East Bay!

Anya Fernald is quite a dynamo of quality food production. Oakland, and Jack London Square is lucky to have her - not just as a force in our blossoming community, but as a resident as well. And she's a talented food wizard too.
Sorry we were out of town. If you can catch Prof. Salomon's talks on Gov. Pico at the Peralta Hacienda or African American Museum, it gives another layer to the complexity of California. But Dominica's cooking and changing specials are reason to celebrate every day.
... wonder if a new tenant is needed for Salsipuedes' space. A Nigerian restaurant would be fantastic there if a place in the Laurel isn't found.
