And vote Yes on Measure X if you live in Contra Costa County, or have a friend or coworker who lives there. It relieves congestion, smoothes traffic on busy streets, repaves streets and expands transit, walking and bicycling.

Re: “Snoop Dogg, Too $hort Endorse California Marijuana Legalization in New Video

Some of you are thinking short-term. California needs to legalize in order to send a message to the world, legalization is the next step. Cannabis is plant and therefore like all plant you have the choice of getting you vegetables at a local independent farm or you can buy the same plant from a corporation, the difference is who you are supporting. (buying it from)

I will be buying from independent farms no matter the size, only the quality.

Re: “Oakland Police Union Spending Thousands on Effort to Unseat Councilmembers Kalb and Gallo

For District 5 residents, virtually everything good that's happened has happened while Noel Gallo has been our councilman:

1) The basics: Noel's predecessor, Ignacio de la Fuente, spent most of his time consulting with his mentors (e.g., Don Perata), running for higher City officD 5 residents, rast, constituent service and consulting with community organizations and , not so much. The IDLF years were for me and too many other residents, like being in political Siberia, but with lots, lots more company.

2) Housing and public safety: There's a reason so many of my neighbors involved in public safety. street safety and and housing issues support Noel's re-election. Ignacio has endorsed Viola Gonzales. Viola Gonzalez has said that Council-members need to be nicer/more cooperative with housing developers and that she will repair the public-OPD -community relationship with (gist) 'more talking and dialogue'....I don't want to go back to the IDLF way of being "represented" (OPOA wishes first) and I certainly don't think OPD's issues with sex trafficking, s.uggish- 'compliance' with the Riders case NSA and racial profiling can be 'talked away'. I have and will give credit where its due for reforms that OPD has implemented, usually only after relentless pressure fromthe Federal Court, but Council person who's in the OPOA's pocket and is likely to buy in to idea that Oakland is safer by throwing love and money at the OPD and OPOA is going backwards

3) The Oakland Animal Shelter------Gonzalez's patron, IDLF, constantly talked about selling or closing the shelter and stated his budgetary vision was of Oakland as a 'basic services only' City. Noel from the start of his term advocated for correcting budget and staffing shortfalls at OAS, then for a new civilian-community governance structure....Since late 2014 OAS has been on the rebound in its service level and relationships with its volunteer and animal welfare non-profit partners.......I don't want to go back to the past where OAS was first up on the chopping block at budget time.

4) Protection of our non-police civic and physical infrastructure-----Noel. again after both reaching out to constituents and being asked by constituents, is a strong advocate for our libraries, senior and youth services, parks, schools and libraries. During his first term, he has built strong relationships with neighborhood school communities and the traffic and street safety working group in my neighborhood. Viola Gonzalez will be the go-t0 Council member for a few interests and an advocate for City 'police first' budgets that cut and starve other City services.

Let's move forward together....

31 year Oakland-Glenview-District 5 resident

Re: “Bay Area Law Enforcement and Media Failed a Survivor of Sexual Exploitation.

Trafficking Victims Protection Act – Bill Clinton’s Connection to underage sex ring

Former President Bill Clinton was a much more frequent flyer on a registered sex offender’s infamous jet than previously reported, with flight logs showing the former president taking at least 26 trips aboard the “Lolita Express” -- even apparently ditching his Secret Service detail for at least five of the flights, according to records obtained by

Hillary Clinton is hoping that Bill Clinton's pedophile pal Jeffrey Epstein is gone for good — as the filthy financier is reportedly advised to disappear through Election Day! New York City's Daily News reports that Epstein has been told to "lay low and say nothing" as a new book is released about the convicted sex offender. But that still leaves Hillary fearing how much "Filthy Rich" will expose about her own husband's trips to Epstein's private Orgy Island!

I remember asking Jeffrey what’s Bill Clinton doing here kind of thing, and he laughed it off and said well he owes me a favor,’ one unidentified woman said in the lawsuit, which was filed in Palm Beach Circuit Court

Moreover Epstein was invited to Chelsea Clinton’s wedding in 2010 amongst 400 other guests, demonstrating his close friendship with the Clinton family.1) Bill Clinton: Clinton took 17 trips with Epstein including 10 to Pedophile Island…
According to court records, Clinton “frequently flew” with Epstein aboard the investor’s private jet from 2002 to 2005, the year news of the police investigation of Epstein was first reported…while Clinton was never deposed, lawyers obtained Epstein’s computerized phone directory, which included “e-mail addresses for Clinton along with 21 phone numbers for him, including those for his assistant (Doug Band),” according to a court filing.

Some of the most shocking allegations against Epstein surfaced only after the conclusion of an FBI probe, in civil suits brought by his victims: for example, the claim that three 12-year-old French girls were delivered to him as a birthday present. But the feds did identify roughly 40 young women, most of them underage at the time, who described being lured to Epstein’s Palm Beach home on the pretense of giving a “massage” for money, then pressured into various sex acts, as well as the “Balkan sex slave” Epstein allegedly boasted of purchasing from her family when she was just 14.

JAMES PATTERSON’S New Book “FILTHY RICH” exposes Jeffrey Epstein’s connection to Bill Clinton & more powerful elites.

Palm Beach billionaire Jeffrey Epstein could face new criminal charges if lawyers for his alleged former teen “sex slaves” succeed in an unusual effort to overturn a 2008 plea deal that gave him house arrest, despite accusations he pimped the girls out to his rich and powerful friends

The 23-page letter, written by high-powered lawyers Alan Dershowitz and Gerald Lefcourt, was apparently part of an ultimately successful bid to negotiate a plea deal before Epstein could be tried for using underage girls in a sex ring based in Palm Beach, Fla., and his private island estate on the 72-acre Virgin Islands home dubbed “Orgy Island.” Epstein spent 13 months in prison and home detention after agreeing to a plea deal in which he admitted to soliciting an underage girl for prostitution.

"Mr. Epstein was part of the original group that conceived the Clinton Global Initiative, which is described as a project 'bringing together a community of global leaders to devise and implement innovative solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” read the July 2007 letter to the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Southern District of Florida. “Focuses of this initiative include poverty, climate change, global health, and religious and ethnic conflicts.”

Re: “Oakland Police Union Spending Thousands on Effort to Unseat Councilmembers Kalb and Gallo

And my school board opponent Jody London is now helping them by campaigning with Moore, who is exactly the same challenge to Rebecca Kaplan. If you vote for police accountability, some police officers retaliate and the standard politics happen. The public is well served to look at who took which side.

Please look at the options and please vote yes on LL, for Kaplan, Kalb and Gallo.

And if you want to look at District 1 school board, I'd be grateful to serve.

I live in Dan Kalb's district, and have supported him since the beginning. He is a very smart, hard-working Council Member, supported by the Sierra Club, Democratic clubs, labor, and out area's most progressive elected representatives.

"I’ve generally been pro-police in terms of building up size of the force, wanting to pay them good wages and give them a good benefits package, and I took lead trying to get more crime investigators," Kalb told the Express. So-cops are only against Kalb b/c he supports more oversight. Kalb just got my vote.

I sure hope the voters in Dan Kalb's district vote for him. He's a good man who thinks deeply about issues that affect our city and works consistently to make the police officers more supported and the OPD more transparent and accountable to Oakland's citizens.

Well nothing could go wrong with dense surveillance of every car in downtown Oakland, now, right? I will certainly be interested to see if it bothers anybody else. Note that many people LIVE within the area. (I wonder how my neighbors with the infant twins and the thirty-or-so stairs up to their door will react to the lineup of cars parking in front of their house?)

Re: “A Look at Who is Financing Oakland City Council Candidates

Libby is trying to build a political machine; she came up with Ignacio De LaFuente, a leading Peratista, in the Perata political machine. Libby excels at campaigning and sucks at leading, so she's trying to stack the deck with Council Members who owe their offices to her, developer friends, the Chamber of Commerce, the Charter Lobby, and her signature pseudo-science, dog-whistling, racist public safety agenda. Mayor Schaaf staunchly maintains that she isn't a racist because she supports schools and scholarships and has albums of selfies with Oakland's Black youth. Like Ignacio, her mentor, she campaigns on fear of Black criminals & anarchists, home security, a police state and restorative justice; as her pals the police, lobbyists, private security, her neighbors and the Chamber of Commerce profile, harass ,arrest, imprison, shoot, and kill Black and Brown people.

Re: “Anti-Legalizers Sue California Over Prop 64 Ballot Language

Proposition 64 is a death knell to the farmers of the Emerald Triangle, their families and the communities who depend on this, the last industry standing after the collapse of the logging, lumber and fishing industries. In Prop 64’s despotic future, farmers & growers are forced to pay taxes before they sell their harvest. A medium sized farm that produced 400 pounds of buds & leaves would have a tax bill of over $60,000 and for the first time ever taxes have to be paid before any sales are allowed.”

Proposition 64’s insidious plan institutes controls that treat cannabis as a dangerous substance, and not as a medicine. It does all it can to force users to return to the dark and hide their use. The chant, “Out of the Dark and into the Light” reflecting overcoming the long time stigma of cannabis use will be replaced by laws that make it a crime to smoke outside where someone could see you or smell cannabis smoke. Smoking outside, even where cigarettes are allowed, is forbidden and the homeless, including homeless veterans who smoke cannabis to treat their PTSD will be committing a crime, subjected to fines and even jail if they are unable to pay. There will be no more smoking cannabis at an outdoor concert or other events. It will be like the "Bad Old Days” when law enforcement waded into crowds to arrest people for smoking a joint. This time they will be wading in handing out tickets resulting in fines.

This is not legalization it is domination, extreme controls, massive regulation and taxation without representation. The Official Libertarian Party Executive Committee has it right when they advise a NO Vote on 64 because it, “does more harm than good, damaging medical availability, and creating additional criminal offenses and regulations.”

Re: “At Belly in Uptown Oakland, the California-Korean Burrito Comes North

Was eating at belly when the Black Panthers came by, they were respectful and asked to use the rest room and spoke to the owner of Belly, Alice Woo, about gentrification, she said no to the bathroom and told them to leave, as soon as they were gone she stormed to the kitchen and started screaming “F%*K THE BLACK PANTHERS” and “I CAN TAKE THEM”, yelling about how “this isn't what gentrification is”. I left, I was and still am so disgusted that a place like belly exists, especially in Oakland. This happened almost a year ago, I posted on yelp and the owner (Alice Woo) replied, comparing the Black Panthers to panhandlers and saying that her customers felt threatened - I was her customer, I did not feel threatened by the people who came in, I felt threatened by the owner. Then she deleted her posts. Search by rating on yelp and you will see how this restaurant treats people of color and their view of the surrounding community.
