"We don't like to litigate," said a person who has the word "legal" in his job title. I think ASCAP's case is pretty strong here, but Mr. Wagener is being disingenuous at best with his "Aw shucks, what a shame we had to file several lawsuits" routine. Lawsuits are the reason why ASCAP employs him, and they're clearly a litigious organization. Let's call a spade a spade.
Great article, thank you! Looking forward to Very Clean III.
Why is it on the venue to get licensing rights and not the DJ who gets paid to play the songs?
But i don‘t understand why he would enter singing competitions such as American Idol and Superstar K?...
I was at Leo's the night Double Duchess performed and I was completely blown away. I didn't expect such as awesome act to open in a tiny club. They were so fabulous.

@EM baker -
Thanks for this reply. I too was hurt by your comments. I was truly offering an olive branch to anyone who felt it might be helpful.
I fully understand how the article itself was hurtful. I'm really sorry. You're 110% right - the people who have busted their humps for little to no pay for the love and passion of the craft are suffering.
I think we're beginning to have a clearer understanding between us and I am sorry if my comments added to your injury. If you're interested, we can move our discussion to a private email.
I thank you for your honesty and reply - I hope you feel the same. Reach out anytime should you wish to continue this discussion.
@Matt- I wasn't saying anything disparaging about your program. I'm just saying it's not the same kind of education you'd receive at Ex'pression. It's definitely on par with SAE. Like I said, it looks like Pyramind offers a decent overview of things. I did my research and saw that you offer various programs, but chose to mention your 1 year program because it was the closest thing to SAE's or Ex'pression's programs. While I'm not 100% behind the education SAE offers, the school has been around since 1976, so they have been around a bit longer than Pyramind. I stand by my bottom feeder comment because it seems like you used this as an opportunity to advertise your school.
I understand why it would be easy to call me out for not using my full name, but I don't think it would be a smart move professionally. I was bothered by the article and by your comment, which I found opportunistic. In the end, it doesn't matter to me what you or the other commenters think about my post or opinion. What matters to me is that this article is ultimately damaging to an institution that a lot of people put a lot of hard work into. We're not making any money working here. We're here because we want to provide a good education in creative fields that we're passionate about.
