Re: “Oakland's Anti-Coal Activists Decry ‘Deceptive’ Mailer

I think they may be in violation of the City's lobbyist ordinance. If not we need to revise it, this large of a mailer represents significant money. We should know who funded it.

Re: “Oakland's Anti-Coal Activists Decry ‘Deceptive’ Mailer

I got this mailer too, and I find this summary of its inaccuracies, omissions, and outright lies - as well as the apparently phantom nature of "Jobs 4 Oakland" - to be quite newsworthy. Please continue reporting it.

Re: “Town Business: Oakland Poised to Ban Coal

Thank God the Oakland City Council took the correct action last night and denied Tagami and his cast of opportunists the ability to process coal at the Port of Oakland. Tagami and his cast of local cronies should be ashamed of themselves. For people like Tagami, Marc McClure, Greg McConnell and Jerry Bridges, who all have long histories in Oakland politics, to use the community with inflated promises of jobs is a disgrace. For over a hundred years, people of color have paid a high price, putting their own health at risk doing jobs and living near industries that are slowly killing them. To promote a false choice of jobs or poor health to justify greed and opportunism is borderline criminal.

Re: “Oakland's Anti-Coal Activists Decry ‘Deceptive’ Mailer

Oops! In spite of "deceptive mailers" the city council did the right thing and banned the coal terminal.

How about if EBX sticks to reporting the news instead of trying to make the news?

EBX, is starting to sound a lot like that old (and defunct) Bruce Brugmann publication, Bay Guardian... A one note scream that eventually became quite ignorable.

Re: “The Richest One Percent Moves to Kill Medical Marijuana in Florida — Again

I'm sick with MS, Fibromyalgia, intractable pain. I am being taken care of in an nursing home. I'm a prisoner of Big Pharma. If I won't be able to get relief from cannabis I feel I won't survive. If only these, this rich bastard could hurt the way I hurt all day everyday. Honestly I would love it.

Re: “Oakland's Anti-Coal Activists Decry ‘Deceptive’ Mailer

This looks like it is falling flat on its face, but the fact that they are okay with extremely deceptive mailers makes me sad for the low regard for democracy that companies have.

Re: “Major Pot Company Hit With Six Counts of Securities Fraud

While I was the first to expose MJNA in Salon as a pump and dump, I have to defend Hemp Inc. They bought the largest decorator in N. America and a big building in NC to process hemp into dozens of different products. They have spent a fortune setting up the plant and it's about ready to produce. Bruce has financed local farmers to replace tobacco crops with hemp and knef. Stock proceeds have gone to finance these projects and a major animal sanctuary that is up and running. Not to mention that Bruce has been a major supporter of the Silver Tour (teaching seniors about med mj) , veterans rights groups and a host of other worthwhile causes. I avoided doing business with him for years, but Hemp Inc is a very real company that can lead the hemp revolution in America and Bruce has put his heart and soul into making that happen.

Re: “Experts, Grand Jury Ding City of Berkeley's 'Ridiculous' Email Policy

I see the problem as a lot deeper than email. At the base of it all is the 4 or 8 year replacement of elected officials who then have the power to replace department heads and other appointed employees of the [city, county, state] that they have been elected to run.
They and their appointed employees may or may not have any knowledge about the systems they are assuming the control of, and all too often, new administrators come in with "better" ideas of how to accomplish the work of the government that may involve thousands of employees and effect hundreds of thousands of people - think of Flint, Michigan.
These "executives" are responsible for determining policies, such as department email retention policy, but they may have little or no understanding of the workings of email and what the labyrinthine implications of retaining it involve, either technically or legally.
And then once these elected or appointed officials move on, what is their responsibility for the policies they have been responsible for enforcing?
The discussion of corporate and government responsibility for actions that have been taken by the organization is not taking place publicly in the manner it should. Email is one increasingly obvious manifestation of it, but, as usual, only the tip of the iceberg.

Re: “Experts, Grand Jury Ding City of Berkeley's 'Ridiculous' Email Policy

I'm disappointed that the EBE would use the hackneyed corporate media label for Clinton's "E-mail-gate". It was a crime for which she and all the civil-
servants who carried it out should be prosecuted, not just the usual bogus
right-wing nonsense.

Re: “Updated: Oakland Spent $72K Closing 162 Homeless Camps in 2015

Due to the inability of Libby Schaff's city government to do anything about the homeless under freeway 880 and highway 24 . they have now started to store discarded refuse from taxpayers on the sidewalk. I pay close to $500.00 in storage fees to storage goods that I need to survive in small business. These people think nothing of storing all of their belongings on the public sidewalk, making it impossible to pass, comingling with their garbage.
Has the Police Department and Libby Schaff lost their sense of decorum.
What in earth is going on ?
I believe that Libby has no idea of how to deal with this problem.
What it takes is some blunt decision making and enforcement like you have in Alameda, San Leandro , Emeryville and El Cerrito, along with Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette and Walnut Creek.

Re: “Major Pot Company Hit With Six Counts of Securities Fraud

Hemp is not pot you fucktard of an author. People like you are the reason that it's more difficult than it should be to differentiate the two. I expected more of someone who writes for a marijuana journal. Bruce Perlowin is a dick.

Re: “Barclay's Pub Forced to Leave Rockridge after 25 Years

Bijan,

I must disagree. Perhaps you had a bad day, as all businesses have, but in the 23 years I've been coming to Barclays it has always been family friendly. I started as a patron and started bringing my daughters with me. They were always treated with respect. Both started working there as their first jobs, and my younger daughter, who started as a hostess at 15 now is assistant manager and orders the beer. There is not a day goes by that there is not a stroller in the pub or on the patio. The proposed "theme" pub, with a full bar, will alienate many of these families who feel comfortable coming here. It will be a true loss for Rockridge.
