In the wake of the murderous hate crime against gay people of this past weekend in Orlando Florida, I've been grappling with how humanity could be so pathological.
Through my shock and sadness and anger, and disdain for public policy, Images from your show played over in my head offering me a sort of white flag.
The killer announced he hated seeing two men kiss not long before he purchased assault weapons to execute gay people in their own safe haven.
~We hear people blaming the NRA for promoting sale f assault rifles.
~We hear republican "leaders" offering prayers while they blame Islamic terrorists for the attack, and omitting this as a hate crime against gay people.
~We see an outpouring of support for the victims as fellow Americans AND as a targeted community of gay people.
~And sadly, we also see the ugly posts on social media of those who thank this sick minded individual for extracting gay people from society.
In this turbulent river of histeria, I've found myself thinking about your show where you explore your place in the world as a gay man with Syrian roots. The fact that gays are executed in some middle eastern countries had fueled your desire for a respite from this insanity.
I thought of the somewhat scary silk screen Images on pink leather of you with a turban juxtaposed to the playful and sexy images of men in turbans printed in toille on Victorian furniture. And the pink ray of light simultaneously piercing your vocal chakra in a silent scream of a life-breath beneath the water.
All of these images came to mind for me this weekend in this turbulent river of madness and each time I saw them I felt a reprieve as though I crawled upon a rock, out of the murk and the murder.
It is art like this that brings me to tears.
Because I see that in this crazy violent world, beneath the layers: the religions and laws and weapons and anger and fear and even the garments we hide behind, there is a child inside all of us who just wants to understand who we are.
Bravo. You allowed me to cry today and that doesn't happen very often.
I got married two years ago and it just seemed that there was no excitement in my sex life. My dysfunction to perform to the best of my abilities in bed made it harder for my wife and me to have a good time during sex. I felt as if she would taunt me at times because there was no enjoyment during the process. The size of my penis and my inability to stay energetic in bed were getting to me and I knew something had to be done in order to improve my sex life. My marriage was falling apart and I always feared that my wife, who I loved very much, would leave me.so i searched for help all over and but nobody could help, not till last week when i logged into my facebook account and saw a post of a friend of mine on how Dr Mill helped him enlarged his private part to 10X better.so i quickly asked of how i could also reach the Dr and today words are not enough to thank Dr mill for saving my marriage and making me real a man.You can as well reach the Dr below for help or any problem, for he has the solution to all...
Widdeling away at the arts is not how you increase attendance. As a prospective MFA student, this frightens me. Getting rid of the book arts program means getting rid of the only access I would have had to a printmaking machine while in residence. It also makes me fear what may come next.

Both PEN Oakland, called by the New York Times, "The Blue Collar PEN," and the Oakland-based ,The Before Columbus Foundation, celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, participated in this book fair, yet, except for the San Francisco Examiner, most of the local press coverage featured New York writers.Maybe both organizations should relocate to New York to get coverage in Oakland.
Reich represents the change in both attitude and action we need for an inclusive economy. Still, the built environment must be reformed as well if change is to be sustainable. For that we need 1) substantial, sustainable incomes, 2) a reinvestment system capturing local wealth, and, 3) rebuilding communities physically thereby eliminating both "developers" and land speculators. The prime format should be the village towns (http://villagetowns.org).
I found your reply to the idiot husband who declared a sex moratorium because he’d become dissatisfied ingenuous and disturbing. I’ve had a long life as a woman, mother and sometimes wife, but most importantly a long career in communication and advocacy on women’s health. I don’t believe you’re a misogynist, but this time you fell into the facile and common practice of blaming the woman for the evident problems in her relationship with HUH. You suggested that her apparent disinterest in sex could be due to exhaustion from raising three children. Maybe so, but that isn’t her fault. HUH's description of their relationship suggests to me that 1) he blames her for his feeling frustrated and cranky, 2) that he is clueless about the physical toll of multiple pregnancies as well as the physical and emotional changes that mothers experience most strongly when they lack sufficient support from partners, family and community, 3) that he’s to blame for the sexual breakdown with his wife due to his own incapacity for caring intimacy in the relationship, which, in this case, might be far more potent and long-lasting than a dose of Viagra for reviving sex. (What could possibly make her frustrated, I wonder?) I agree that the couple would benefit from the luxury of time alone, but what they really need is a simple prescription of empathy, demonstrative affection, and practical support in their everyday life together. Oh, did I mention love? I know, it’s not an orgasmic requirement, and you either feel it or you don’t, but it can be a turn on when it’s real and uninhibited. One more thing: I feel sorry for their kids, because if things continue as he describes, the kids will absorb the dissatisfaction, the blaming, and the unhappiness associated with sex, and 20 years from now you’ll be getting letters from them.

Interesting how little fact.. was hidden. What else ?
Pretty sad comment on complicit journalism & spin doctors.
I think "pus" has one s, "puss" is something else altogether. That doesn't look like puss.
My brother lives in Oakland, and sent me a link to the article, across the pond in England.
I was bedbound for 14 years with chronic fatigue syndrome. Now, happily, I have a joyful increase in mobility and speech and I am 'out' in the world through websites and writing.
Wishing you success in this venture and the warmth of knowing that your beauty persists whether seen or unseen. Congratulations on your oomph.
I don't think that it is right when students experience some kinds of crisis when they study at the college. They should be protected by college officials from crisis they are expected to take part in. They would stop studying if they always feel nervous about something that concerns to them. They would select essay service online and study ordering their home assignmntes from the Internet as they don't want to do them on their own. That's why we should care about them and defend from all kinds of studying crisis.
As a woman with tick-borne illness which has led to me becoming increasingly invisible to my former colleagues and friends, I would have very much liked to have attended. Until you go down the rabbit hole of chronic illness you have no idea how marginalized you can become. I know, for people who are chronically ill, it is a monumental task to put something like this on; thanks so much for doing it.
Of course, prior to WW2 Oakland was a very different city from a demographic standpoint. Whites left in droves after the war ended, and when industrial employment left the city, the largely black, blue collar working middle class that had moved West from the South and re-defined Oakland were left behind once again.
@Amy Mills seeing as the house was destroyed in the 60s, it's way long gone now. Lower Bottoms in that particular section was redeveloped, including, from what I've been told, freeway construction, which was far more popular at the time than any other transportation infrastructure besides commuter rail (BART) both of which supported white flight and suburban sprawl as a planning strategy, leaving the urban centers to rot with no services or support (except violent cops from the 'burbs to beat those too poor and black to flee)....
I like this. I have interstitial cystitis. An invisible condition that is often ignored. We need to be heard and seen.
thanks for the write up see http://nocoalinoakland.info
There are other forms in Alameda too, including some interesting paper pieces, some of which encourage the viewer to take a piece.
