Re: “Gracie Can't Bend It

Kelly-great comment. I completely agree. I watched the movie opening night and completely loved it despite the bad reviews. It's completely unecessary to compare this movie to Bend It Like Becham or any other movie, the message, the moral, and the depth is what matters. Thank you for speaking your mind, rather than going with what most people would say.

Re: “Gracie Can't Bend It

In my oppinion, GRACIE can bend it in most ways. The cast was amazing, Carly Schroeder may not be an A list star, but her emotions and connection to the script is obvious. Elizabeth Shue and he brothers took a real life experience and tragedy and adapted it to the screen, maybe parts of the script are lacking, but the reality of the story is what matters. Should you ask Andrew or Elisabeth shue anything about the movie, their eyes will light up, showing how much they care. This is their life, how can you say that it is from an alternate universe, it's the universe that they lived in. Going through such a ragedy almost takes you to an alternate universe, unless you've gone through it you couldn't understand it. Even if none of that matters to certain people in the audience, the clear message of "you can do anything" is something that most Americans could hear. This movie was truly a touching movie that i will never forget.

Re: “Away from Hollywood

This comment is in regards to the article about Sarah Polley, Canadian actor and new director of "Away from Me." Just wanted to mention that the TV-series that Sarah Polley starred in from the time she was ten, being subsequently dubbed Canada's Sweetheart, was not Anne of Avonlea, but ROAD to Avonlea. The series was based upon books by LM Montgomery, who also wrote the Anne series. "Anne of Avonlea" is the American title of Anne of Green Gables the Sequel, which was produced, like Road to Avonlea by Kevin Sullivan of Sullivan Entertainment. Both stories however take place in the fictional town of Avonlea (Road to Avonlea taking place after Anne has left Avonlea and Anne is not in the TV series).

Re: “Rachel Stein, Showgirl

One of the best movies I have ever seen. I always knew the Dutch helped Jews during the holocost. i.e. Ann Frank. Howev, I never knew so many were caught up in collaborating with the Nazis. Thsi movie brings out this important fact. It also was a real thriller. At first I thought, "oh no subtitles", but later, because of it's non-stop story line, I never even noticed. The 2 1/2 houirs felt like 30 minutes.

Re: “Feckless

The writer of this article is an idiot for two reasons. 1) Unleashed was Jet Li's best acting job to date, as well as being a decent movie and 2) While Fearless might have been a disappointment to ignorant action-only fans, fans of the true martial arts movie genre definately found it very enjoyable. I wouldn't put it in the same category as Crouching Tiger or even Jet's Fist of Legend, but it was certainly not the poor movie that you made it out to be.

Re: “Man on Man Action

This is a very racist movie - It does not make it OK just because they yell, "Pile those Persians high!" instead of "Pile those Jews [or Armenians or substitute your favorite ethnic group here] high!” This is just one example. There are many more subliminal racist messages in this movie. Another example, Greeks and Persians have very similar physical features. In this movie Persians are made to be dark skinned and deformed. There are multiple levels of racism right there. One, showing darker skinned people as evil. Two, showing Persians as dark skinned. Three, showing deformed people as evil and not deserving of our sympathy. Do you remember another minority group being depicted as sub-human and deformed in the very recent past (hint, you don’t have to go back 2500 years)?

Re: “Man on Man Action

This is another subliminal historically inaccurate brainwash movie to get you ready for another war. See what the real Greeks think about this bigoted spin on their history: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/03/08/arts/EU-A-E-MOV-Greece-300.php “By ancient Persia, they refer to modern Iran — whose soldiers are portrayed as bloodthirsty, underdeveloped zombies,” he wrote. “They are stroking racist instincts in Europe and America.” Please don't subsidize bigotry.

Re: “Spoiler Alert

As a registered Republican who voted for Ralph Nader in 2000 & 2004 would do so again in 2008 if Ralph runs. It is never a waisted vote when you vote for whom you truly believe in ans has earned your vote. I believe in Ralph, his ongoing career is all the evidence I need knowing he always tells the truth. AS a Republican it obvious I am not voting for ralph because of political ideology but for the need to straighten out America which has run amock on corporate corruption.

Re: “Spoiler Alert

Your review assumes Nader did spoil the election while the evidence shows he did not. For example: Gore won Florida as would have been confirmed had he demanded a recount which he failed to do and I'm sure regrets today. Consequently the Supreme Court decided who would be president. There is much more evidence that proves Nader was not responsible if you would do your homework. Start with Too Close to Call by Jeffrey Toobin. Just stop repeating ad nauseum what the Democratic Party wants you to believe even though its operatives who are honest enough know perfectly well: Gore lost his own election!!
