I completely agree this movie was miserable to sit through. Even my hopes that it may turn its self around let down in the end.

The same old crapola. Mao killed 110 million in 27 years, the Soviets killed 70-80 million in 71 years, Ho killed millions in Vietnam, Kim killed millions in China,
postwar Red governments in eastern Europe killed 2-3 million Sudenten Germans while expelling 15 million, Black africans have killed 15 million of each other in the last two decades, the US killed two million in Indochina and Israel has killed twenty Arabs over the decades for every one Israeli killed by Arabs and the list goes on.
Yet all we hear about 99.99% of the time is this Holocaustamania. Even the term is wrong as a holocaust is a giant fire like the kind that the US-UK killed millions of Germans and Japanese during WW2.
When the Berlin Wall came down and the Communist regimes collapsed the Auschwitz figure was immediately revised downward from four million to one million and even that figure is way too high. Some of the holocaust tales like Babi Yar are complete fictions, others like Anne Frank's Diary are a combination of truth and fiction. There were no gas chambers in any of the camps in Germany proper. The controversy is entirely about Poland and then there are the claims that 3,000 Einsatzgruppen exterminated two million Soviet Jews. Many scholarly books have been written debunking the whole extermination conspiracy legend. A good beginning is Debating The Holocaust by Thomas Dalton, Ph.D. Get it from Amazon and avoid the sales tax. In many countries there are Stalinist Thought Crime laws that forbid any challenge to the official holocaust legend. No other historical crime has needed criminal penalties to protect its story.
Some hack invented the term 'denier' in 1993 and all the media & academic & political apes have followed suit as a mindless sheeple. I prefer revisionist.
As an atheist I don't 'deny' god, I just don't believe in the concept.
No one denies the reality of the concentration camps and the fact that many Jews died in them or the terrible German record before and during the war.
But exaggerating the casualty figures tenfold and the absurd human bars of soap & human lampshade tales and many more lies need to be exposed.
Exposing them doesn't make a person hate Jews qua Jews, which is the real definition of a real anti-Jew.
This whole Shoah business is entirely driving US Mideast policy and leading us into evermore wars.
No other human tragedy is being more intensely exploited many years after the event except this one where the hysteria increases each year.
Why is that ?

I got to see TERRI at this years SIFF, and though there are many reasons I like the film, one of the biggest is because it didn't have that payoff we all expect. Instead of the nerds winning, the goth girl putting make up on to find out how beautiful she really is, or an exercise montage leading to a dance off, the one we are left with is simple, elegant, and most of all, truthful. I haven't seen the most recent Transformers, but if you are looking for expected pay offs, I'll put my money on that there is a big robot showdown in the end, as called for.
Terri- fully recommended for people who like something unexpected.

This vocabulary,” she warned, “denied human agency. It minimized the individuals and institutions whose actions could often be found hiding behind all the talk of water and wind."

Dear Kelly Vance: You don't have a clue about this film. You should stick to reviewing cinema that fits your level of consciousness. The Tree of Life is a visual poem, and the one of the most deeply emotional and spiritually compelling works of art to be crafted by a filmmaker.

Thank you for this review. Everyone else seems afraid to plainly call this film out for the heavy-handed devices and lack of narrative. So many scenes have seemingly been "borrowed" from other films. Most notably the end scene on the beach, which directly hearkens back to "Longtime Companion."

Meh. I enjoyed it but had to block out the "Woody Allen-ism" of it, wherein every character talks like Woody Allen, complete with the stuttering "you know's." Ruins the suspension of disbelief when Allen's ego intrudes at every juncture. Very clever at times, very well done, Owen Wilson has been one of my faves for years and great that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. But it's a travesty to make him talk like Woody Allen. He's a better comedian than that.
Loved Adrian Brody as Salvador Dali.

Well, I saw this movie at Sundance this year. Particularly based on the non-ending, I walked out and declared "so Sundance." At first, the trek seemed almost fake because it was very personal and this-close. However as the trek continues, the daily grind starts to envelope you in the experience. Months later, I still wish for a real ending, which might appeal to a few more movie-goers...no?

As a matter of fact, I’m resisting all involvement with each groovy chick we see. Not that I'm assuming anyone is a groovy chick. Never mind.

Kelly is just wrong, wrong, wrong about this movie. It's actually one of the most satisfying films of the year. She makes the amateurish error of evaluating it by its source material instead of on its own merits. If you want to read Philip K. Dick then read him. If you want to see a very good movie see "The Adjustment Bureau".
