Food for thought indeed!

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016.

Hmm, all that text and only one mention of climate (in the endorsement of Eric Swalwell, who sadly is no position to do much that isn't just rhetorical). I didn't watch all the video, but did the subject even come up?

Surely the critical issue of our time deserved more attention than that?

Re: “Marijuana and Election 2016: Grading the Candidates and Measures on Pot-Friendliness

We should all look at all the issues and everyone involved, not just what makes our like (me, myself and I) better off? It's time we act and vote like a country, together on the important things like Justice Reform. Because "No One Belongs In Jail for Marijuana"

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

Noel Gallo was the only one who voted against the garbage contract BTW... I think he's a pretty straight shooter.

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

Mayor Schaaf and council continue bankrupting Oakland for decades to come with crappy contracts to cronies. Libby signed Police contract with over a 30% increased cost to City (raises and bennies) over 5 years. Then Council signed fat garbage deal, and now a booming bond ballot (with money for Charters Schools, Developers and the OPD). Libby, the Education Mayor and her Charter School buddy's will have teachers working for fast food wages and on MediCal: while Oakland Police earn 100K a year with fat bennies and pensions.

Libby loves her lobbyists, she plans to ride her "public safety: mass incarceration" "education reform: privatize public education" and "Oakland Renaissance : real estate rip off" right to Sacramento where she can do even more harm. Libby luvs Oakland!

If I were going to vote for Trump, I wouldn't do so because of the militant believer Pence. Hemp has been a long hard road in the US, and we don't need to sabotage our attempts now.

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

So Let me get this straight: "Most Oakland cops live in the suburbs of Contra Costa County, or over the hill in towns like Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, and Livermore." If that's true, why are they spending their money (that comes from us) trying to influence elections in Oakland? Is this not like Chinese, Russian, Saudi Arabian sources running ads in favor of one or another party in US elections? How is it the same: foreign investors control increasingly massive investments in US real estate and businesses and wish to have a government in power friendly to their investments, just as the police wish to have legislators elected who support their freedom to operate in the protected environment they currently enjoy.
I have spoken to OPD officers who told me they live outside Oakland for the welfare of their families. I was stunned. What kind of attitude do they bring with them to "serve and protect" residents of a city that is not suited for their families to live in? Is that the attitude we want in our police?
When we see those who we have granted special rights - to use and carry weapons, to arrest and detain those WHOM THEY DETERMINE are violating the law - why would they resist the oversight of their actions by those whom they serve? Finally, the city council of Oakland has taken the first steps toward establishing a neutral body with the power to review police actions. I would suggest that those unwilling to have their actions reviews by those they "protect and defend" are not those who best serve the interests of Oakland.
There are various ramifications that emerge in discussing these issues, such as: what are the rules officers operate under, both written and unwritten; exactly how are officers regulated and reviewed; what is the power dynamic in Oakland that brings about such contentiousness between the police and the government?
But most importantly, why are we giving such power and influence to a group consisting largely of people that don't even live here and who don't fully understand Oakland for what it is?

Re: “Town Business: Police Union Attacks Kalb and Gallo; Oakland Claims Garbage Contracts No Problem

"To sum up Oakland's response, everything is cool, more or less."

That's sums up just about everything about Oakland governance including housing affordability, long-term financial plans, crime, police reform, a new police chief and our open-arms approach to anti-union Uber. Not to mention ethical behavior of Council members.

Said the fox in the hen house to the farmer: "No one here, Boss, but us chickens."

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016.

Your analysis of the results of K1 in Alameda failing are grossly incorrect. It will not "blow a $5 million hole in the general fund." There are two items in the measure:
1) an advisory vote on the transfer of over $3M/yr from Alameda Municipal Power to the city. Pass or fail nothing will change.
2) A vote to update the UUT to cover more items. If it fails the current UUT will continue to be collected, so no change. If it passes the UUT will be extended to new services and the funds generated will increase.

You have done a great disservice to people looking for voting guidance by saying the city will lose $5M from the general fund if K1 does not pass.

Re: “Vote With Us! The East Bay Express' Endorsements for Election Day 2016.

I don't understand your Alameda endorsements. At a LWV Candidate Forum, Marilyn Ashcraft explicitly endorsed L1, not M1. Vella failed to endorse either, but explicitly opposed L1. How is Ashcraft better on Alameda Point development than Daysog? Vella a "Labor Leader"? She has only been a lawyer for barely 4 years, and her first job seems to be as a lawyer representing Teamsters, but she has never been a union laborer herself. how does that limited experience make her a "labor leader"?

Re: “Windstorm Disrupts Treasure Island Music Festival, But Show Goes On (And Kamaiyah Saves the Day)

Everyone that bought a single day Saturday pass or a 2 day pass deserves a refund. People would have been happy to brave the rain to actually see artists playing, but we stood in the rain for cancellation after cancellation and the method of communicating these cancellations and lineup changes was incredibly disorganized and confusing. So much for 10th anniversary celebration. This is the worst event I've ever attended (I've been going to TIMF for years) and I haven't even seen mention of the pier fiasco. We didn't get half of what we paid for in terms of music or attractions. There is zero reason the silent disco couldn't have been relocated. Terrible planning. TIMF owes every festival goer financial compensation. We gave them our money and time and they absolutely did not deliver. And the discusting grass they laid the day before with heavy rains forecasted...who planned this shit?!

Re: “The Oakland Museum of California’s Homage to the Black Panther Party

Looking forward to seeing this exhibit. Growing up in East Oakland, the BP were always very
Much a part of the fabric of Oakland and it's transformational consciousness. It has also been something I felt was missing- a monument in Oakland acknowledging the indelible impact the BPP has had and it's legacy continues on in Oakland and the Nation. This should happen while legacy BPP folks are around to know their sacrifice is acknowledged. All power

Re: “Eleanor Roosevelt's Great Lesbian Love Affair

James and I were together for 3 years and lived together for two until he was moved to another state for job in March of last year.Sept was the last time we spent time together. We went for a vacation and had a fabulous time, not knowing it would be the last time I would see him.He stopped calling Nov,and just sent me a text saying he did not want to talk.I did not pursue it because I thought he just needed some space.March came rolling in,and I found out he got married. How could it be?I found out, shortly before we started dating,he was communicating with a girl from another country and made a trip there once and proposed to her.He made another trip in 2015.She finally came to the country Jan of this year and I figured the reason he dumped me was when he found out she was approved to come to the US.I made the huge mistake of going to the social media and found the woman’s posts of their wedding and trips, etc. That hurt me more than I could imagine. It has been 8 months since I’ve seen him but just can’t get him out of my head.Honestly,I feel very jealous of his now.I wake up in the morning feeling nonexistent, empty and wishing I don’t wake up so I don’t have to feel the same pain I could never get accustomed to.The deceit and the fact that I was used and hurt so bad that I don’t think I could move past it.I decide to seek the help of a psychologist because I knew I was losing it. As I searched the internet, I found cases similar to mine and some, even worse. But all of them sang praises of a man whom helped them restoring their broken relationships, marriages and family…Dr Kene Dilli. I was supprised and decided to give it a try as I contacted his email I found in those testimonies; kenedillitemples AT yahoo DOT com. Behold, after doing all he instructed,he sent me a parcel plus the steps needed as reguarding the parcel. Now,I have got back my lover…James, and he has filed for a divorce with the other lady he married. #HappyToBeBackWithJames.

Re: “California Traffic Tickets Amnesty Program Leaves Many Behind

I would like to bring this to the notice of the public about how i met Anz Jackson Financing PLC after i lost my job and being denied loan by my bank and other financial institution due to my credit score. I could not pay my children's fees. I was behind on bills, about to be thrown out of the house due to my inability to pay my rent, It was during this period my kids were taken from me by foster care. Then i set out to seek for funds online where i lost $3,670 that i borrowed from friends which i was rip off by two companies. Until i read about: where i was granted a loan to pay up my debts and to start up a business. You can as well give them a call or text at: +18437769340. Why am i doing this? I am doing this to save as many that are in need of a loan not to be victim of scams on the internet../

Re: “Candidates Vying for Oakland School Board Seats Defined by Positions on Charter Schools

Does Mr. Harris still live in San Leandro and send his kids to Head-Royce? Do Charter Movement affiliated Foundations fund the scholarship programs at Head Royce?

Does the Harris family receive private school scholarship money funded by the Roger's Foundation or their affiliates?

Re: “An East Bay Pimp Trafficked Her Daughter. And the Man that She Turned to For Help Exploited Her For Sex.

I can relate completely I was involved with Patrick for 7 years felt safe he was helping me with my daughter that was subjected to prostitution. I truly thought I had meet my soul mate he was loving attentive and caring but initially he told me we could not act on our feelings until 2 years after my daughter had been his client this time went and passed he contacted me we started meeting again he explained he had made someone pregnant during this time as and felt responsible so he explained there was love but he was not in love. We spent many times together over these years then suddenly he did not respond to any of my calls or texts when I saw this story I felt I really needed to respond he had me believe for years we would be one.If any of you ladies out there need more information please email me at
