Thank you for your compassionate actions and letter. If everyone would be willing to do their little bit for their neighbor we wouldn't have such a problem!

Re: “City of Oakland Clears Out The Village Homeless Encampment

When I read a comment that contains, "these people", I discard from my mind anything else that person has to say on the matter. Otherization is not what we need.

This country is boiling over with division, selfishness and extreme hard feelings towards our fellow citizens just trying to get by (as we all are trying to do). We claim to love our country while being hateful & uncaring to so many people in it. Too many people have pride for their country but are deficient in the love department for it. As one guy pointed out in a video I recently watched, a country is not it's government nor the land it occupies. A country is the people living in it. This is that video, a must watch type video (IMO):

'Celebrate the diversity that makes America, America. Share this video to show #WeAreAmerica.'
https://www.facebook.com/LoveHasNoL/videos/1691835861068286/

Instead of a critique of the houseless individuals that are doing the best they can and in this case, are doing darn well with nothing, we should be asking what can we do to help.

If I see someone with car trouble or some other trouble, I'll stop to ask if they need help. I did just recently with a guy & his car stuck in the middle of traffic broke down. This fact about me is especially true if I see they are doing their best to help themselves in the situation they are enduring.

I know 1 person can't help everyone, not even close. I'd be crazy to think that I could do much, especially for all. I try not to let that change me though. When I feel that way of thinking could be affecting my outlook & judgement, I reflect upon The Starfish Story.

Re: “Oakland Planning Commission Approves 'Mammoth' Tower Next to MacArthur BART

I think the City Council should oppose the present plans. When people buy into a neighborhood, they have a right to expect that neighborhood changes won't undermine their investment of both money and heart. The City's own Design Guidelines for Corridors and Commercial Areas, adopted in 2013, supports this principle. It specifies that new large buildings should be much more integrated into a neighborhood's existing buildings than the huge slab shown here, and it explains how this can be achieved. The design that's on the McGrath Properties website would be wonderful, for instance. And although more people spoke in favor of the project, numbers alone are hardly the only criterion for approval, and it's one that the Planning Commission often ignores.

Also, I think McGrath should do more to provide affordable units, and I'm worried about Boston Properties' involvement. It doesn't have a good reputation as a landlord.

Re: “City of Oakland Clears Out The Village Homeless Encampment

How would people feel if a homeless encampment moved in their backyard? Many homeowners who live in the area pay property taxes and have done their best to make this part of Oakland appear better. While homelessness needs to be addressed, this is not the solution. I have proposed to the city to put these people to work and pay them with vouchers which pays for their rent. It would be best to move them to Richmond where there is ample space. Problem solved.

Re: “Will Thousands of East Bay Patients, Workers Lose Coverage, Jobs Due To Trump's 'Obamacare' Repeal?

My understanding is that Obamacare is a FAKE, and that President Obama misrepresented Obamacare. It is almost entirely an extension of Medicaid, which probably covered the gentleman who is the main subject of this article. Medicaid will remain around even if Obamacare is eliminated.

But a lot of people are really worried. They have not taken care of themselves and their families, and obtained employment with medical benefits. They have not planned ahead. We should ask people to take responsibility for their own lives and not expect to be dependent on others, asking others to shoulder their burden.

A society of dependent people is not a strong society. As the working population ages, as the baby boomers age, there will be less of those contributing and more of those who are living off of the government. That spells bankruptcy for government programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Of course, accidents and emergencies happen, and these have always been covered by Medicaid.

Re: “City of Oakland Clears Out The Village Homeless Encampment

Oakland has a case pending in court against Wells Fargo for predatory lending.
During the period that Wells was conducting the predatory lending they were engaged in an 18 month relationship with El Chapo Guzman's drug cartel...
Guzman is now in jail in New York. It will be interesting to see if they will allow him to testify in open court due to his knowledge of the "shadow banking" industry...
The relationship generated $378 billion and was facilitated by then Attorney General Jerry Brown...Read, https://www.facebook.com/RealEstateFraudOr…

Maybe a soft-pedaled anarchist perspective shouldn't dominate EBX pages so much? Only a minority of readers engage with it.

It's Darwin lining up for his next outsider rant. Take a few moments and google him to figure out his POV. Privileged out of state type who feels justified to waggle his finger at the natives.

The real question is why re these homeless here? Laziness. Put them to work and give them vouchers to pay for low income housing in Richmond. Sound good?

Re: “Police, City Clear Out 'The Village' Homeless Encampment in North Oakland

Did any of you visit The Promise Land Village? The park was not a park, it's a grassy area under a freeway with a basketball court and a dog park. . The Village was bringing much needed support to a community of people. You could get a hot meal and a cup of hot coffee, use the bathroom, take a hot shower, talk with the community, get services assistance and medical care, all volunteer. Every encampment in Oakland deserves porta potties and washing stations. It costs under $500 a month to provide these basic necessities. The whole city would feel lifted if driving around people saw these basic services provided on the street. Taxpayers, I believe, would feel good about how their money was being spent. Did you know many homeless people hold down jobs? We don't have a housing crisis in Oakland. The City explained there are 3000 properties city owned being strangled by liens. What we have is a HUMANITY CRISIS. We don't care about each other. Every person brought into this world deserves love, shelter, food, clothes- a chance. We can't ignore the history that has brought us here, and we can't let that history stop us from moving forward with grace and intelligence. We have the skills to meet everyone's needs. Money is an excuse. We all need to look into our own hearts and support loving solutions that force the community to take responsibility for everything around them including those people who find themselves at this time addicted to drugs, homeless, living on poverty, or marginalized for any reason. This is just the beginning. Housing and dignity for all of Oakland will be a reality! #feedthepeople #asiansforblacklives #housinganddignityforall

Re: “Police, City Clear Out 'The Village' Homeless Encampment in North Oakland

Unfortunately, this was not a city issue at all. As tenants of the state of CA we the people of the city of Oakland had a simple choice. Have the park or have nothing. Caltrans does not mess around. So Oakland could not either. All the residents can come join us on Northgate Ave. We welcome all comers and have a large supportive community focused on positive change.
