Re: “California Set for Historic Vote on Cannabis Legalization

"That’s not true."

Great to see a newspaper actively refereeing a debate and educating its readership instead of just transcribing quotes. I'm new to the area and extremely very by the EBE.

Re: “New Oakland-Made Saurkraut Takes Shots at Uber, Mayor

The photograph on the label was stolen, without credit or compensation, from freelance photographer Chris Duffey, a longtime contributor to Oakland Magazine and the East Bay Express. A representative of Phat Beets declined to cease using the photo when informed that it was stolen. So much for the ethics and good works of Phat Beets Produce, I guess.

Where is the IPO? Scam. Pure and simple. Shame on you Steve. You did all of us a major disservice with this distraction. And now, we get AUMA...

Re: “Snoop Dogg, Too $hort Endorse California Marijuana Legalization in New Video

Patrick, CCHI is a fool's practice and will never happen. It was first introduced in 1990 and has failed to make the ballot in every election cycle since then, it's time to accept that it isn't gonna happen and move on. AUMA still allows you to grow your own while also allowing for unlimited possession limits at home and onsite consumption lounges, that is legal to me and everyone else I know. Prop 215 has done good things, but the unregulated status quo has caused problems and DEA raids, who said that they would return if a tightly regulated structure for cannabis isn't put into place in California. MMRSA and AUMA are the results of that, the nationwide movement towards ending prohibition cannot afford a loss in California this November, that is exactly what the prohibitionists want and all you're doing is siding with them and helping them get what they want.

Re: “California Set for Historic Vote on Cannabis Legalization

Will the the measure prohibit employers (public and private) from disqualifying prospective applicants from employment? And will it also prohibit employers (public and private) from testing for marijuana usage?

Re: “Landlord Being Sued for Allegedly Pushing Out SRO Tenants

Ahasuerus Christian, what makes you so certain I'm lying? Just curious. We posted notices in English AND Chinese that we would be remodeling common areas, and when our general contractor suggested all kitchens had to be done at the same time, we refused, instead insisting that they completely remodel one kitchen, and only start on the 2nd kitchen once the first one had been completed and put back in service. I get it, "bad landlord" articles are great click-bait, and a great way to further one's career in some cases. Consider that there are honest business people, unless and until there is actually evidence against them. In this case, there is no evidence because we have no desire to ever constructively evict anyone, and 100% respect Just Cause and all other laws. Does anyone else find it odd that we took a Death-trap building with exactly zero smoke detectors and zero carbon monoxide detectors and with raw sewage leaking into the basement (literally) and cured all those items, plus the leaky roof, plus are painting it, and I've said that to every reporter that has contacted me, but none have printed it? I continue to respond to all questions and inquiries and have offered to meet with the city or anyone else with a stake in the situation. They haven't--maybe because they're mistaken and embarrassed, maybe they're too busy writing their next piece of inaccurate click-bait. Oh well. We'll just keep improving Oakland, respecting tenants, and taking punishment while doing it. No love lost Oakland.

Re: “Oakland's Anti-Coal Activists Decry ‘Deceptive’ Mailer

Can't someone look for the mailer ID from the mailing barcode to determine who the sender is? who is MID 901486?

Great food, truly awful, terrible, no good, very bad service. It was time for them to move on - their hearts weren't in it anymore.

Re: “California Set for Historic Vote on Cannabis Legalization

Everyone country wide should chip in a few bucks to AUMA. I did. It's easy and quick. You don't even need to punch in a credit card number, just use PayPal. Visit their website. I'm not affiliated with the group and I don't even live in California.

Re: “California Set for Historic Vote on Cannabis Legalization

"They have the money and we have the facts" states the anti legalization coalition. They forgot to add "they have the will of the people in a free democracy".

"“Craft coffee drinks” — whatever that means" Luke, you might want to sit down, because this bit of truth I'm about to tell you is clearly going to rock your world: Luke, you're a food critic.

Re: “Town Business: Housing ‘State of Emergency’

I'm a victim of this bubble, pushing me out of Oakland. If I hadn't fallen in love, it would have pushed me completely out of the bay area.

Fuck the rich who have no conscious and push out so many. And fuck the city council. Wholey ineffective with no respect for their constituents. Oakland is now just a lighter version of San Francisco. Just not much lighter.

Re: “Black Oakland Police Officers Slam Schaaf over OPD Texting, Human Trafficking Scandals

Why does the Mayor continue to spend and give away tax payers money like bottled water at a family bbq? Example, paying a private investigator to find out what city employees are talking, really?
She didn't, nor a guy that the city was paying $330.000 a year in salary apply for a $2 million grant that would help get many youth off the streets, including hanging out in Dt Oakland with nothing to do but shot and kill innocent people, unacceptable!!😠

Re: “New Oakland-Made Saurkraut Takes Shots at Uber, Mayor

Ahh Luke. We send you so many positive press releases about our youth programs, our work to distribute food grown at Castlemont High School, our Double EBT work and you just love to write about controversial things. Did you highlight our kraut that pays for fruit trees to planted in Southern Madagascar by a sister collective? Or that the products contain produce grown by youth and small farmers of color? How about posting a link to our sites to buy our youth products to help us employee youth. Nope, how sad :(

Re: “Daily Planet Stung By Alleged Fraud

Mr. Norgren, the wanted tax fraud scoundrel, has been arrested by the US Attorneys office in the PI and has been extradited to the US. He now awaits a court hearing in Federal Court under Judge Ryo on July 5, 2016 in Oakland, CA . For more information contact Special Agent Andres Gonzales at the IRS. Finally he's been nabbed and awaits justice.
