Correction Marmee Manak a seasoned sommelier who has worked alongside This incredible chef for many years. She has travelled internationally to organic: biodynamic wine festivals and visit domestically many of our vineyards to experience the land. I'm enticed to dine there for both the food and exquisite wines.

And you didn't even try the biodynamic wines paired so beautifully to each dish it seems. Somalier Marmee Marnak has scoured the world seeking wines that enliven our being.

Just visited Annapurna. Lovely decor, not as good as Hamro Aangan/Albany. The Khashi Ko Masu (goat wet curry) at Annapurna is not as good as at Aangan--lacks complexity and depth. No grilled tomato, btw. The fried fish is also better at Aangan, with a lighter batter and not overcooked. The cauliflower/potato curry was indifferent, too. You're right about the naan and lamb mo-mo's, however--both were outstanding at Annapurna.

Yes, they are great. I love their noodle soup as well as their ESAN (Thai Laos Mixed) style food. Bamboo soup, the BBQ ribs, and their soft sticky rice. Mann, it made me hungry just to think about it. Too bad, we live very far away. But, we will go again this weekend.

Can't have enough of good Thai food.

Oh OK.. this is in the same little strip as my favorite cheap lunch deals from the Banh Mi place. For $3 one can get FULL off of a cool banh mi (bread could be softer at times tho). Now I have a new spot to haunt at lunch. Love me some laab

Alice Woo has been giving me a bad vibe for awhile now. I think she is racist and she obviously doesn't care about social issues like gentrifciation because she's a successful business owner. I'm so not surprised to hear about your experience there Becca. Every time I've gone in there she gives off a bad energy. Your story just confirmed that she is definitely a racist person who I personally think needs to check herself before she talks foolishness to the wrong one.

Yes the original Loring opened in 1986. The Loring Pasta bar in Dinkytown, Minneapolis closer to 2000, and the Varsity theatre is still there too. Jack Chatham (Jefferson)

Looking at the picture accompaning this article. Food is all one bland color, everything looks fried, no salad. Is this what they are serving at Oakland High?? Who plans the menus? What is their background?? That is the person we should know about. Sounds like too many government, business and union folks involved.

Maybe you mean the food is actually "bad"? Because Chipotle (despite its teething problems) is known for it's food being actually "good" - organic etc.

I ate street vendor food for 17 years when I lived in Thailand, and never saw any such thing as an ice cream roll, or stir fried ice cream!!

Was eating at belly when the Black Panthers came by, they were respectful and asked to use the rest room and spoke to the owner of Belly, Alice Woo, about gentrification, she said no to the bathroom and told them to leave, as soon as they were gone she stormed to the kitchen and started screaming “F%*K THE BLACK PANTHERS” and “I CAN TAKE THEM”, yelling about how “this isn't what gentrification is”. I left, I was and still am so disgusted that a place like belly exists, especially in Oakland. This happened almost a year ago, I posted on yelp and the owner (Alice Woo) replied, comparing the Black Panthers to panhandlers and saying that her customers felt threatened - I was her customer, I did not feel threatened by the people who came in, I felt threatened by the owner. Then she deleted her posts. Search by rating on yelp and you will see how this restaurant treats people of color and their view of the surrounding community.

Yes, count me in! Margaret and I had a great banquet style cabbage dish at a fancy Peking duck place in Beijing...one of my most memorable food memories from China. Would love to try this fancy cabbage thing.
