Nastia - you write amazing articles. Your descriptions are captivating and I've found myself discovering new artists I would not have otherwise known about because of you. Thank you

Best and realist Article I have ever read regarding Philthy Rich. I know him personally, I know his struggles, I went through some of them with him. Philthy has come a long, long way and I am glad to see what his music career has evolved to today. His lyrics tell a story, his story and a lot of people can relate to that.
Majic Moonjynuh rocks. And for better or worse, they sound way more like Black Sabbath than King Crimson. The concept album will be amazing.

I've been a performing musician for over 48 years. This is greed plain and simple. With all due respect to clubs and venues I've played, we don't make enough to haul all the gear in the building let alone play. The big joke is we get paid for moving the equipment. Hell the insurance companies that strong arm these bars and lounges for the hundreds of thousands in Liquor liability insurance every year, keeps them from even THINKING of being able to pay us for what we're really worth. Let's go after them first.
Hell, there are fewer and fewer places to play. These old performers who's music would be a memory and the requests to have them on comeback tours wouldn't even exist if it weren't for those of us keeping their songs alive in these small clubs. and venues. Yeah we're making a lot of money off THEIR music. Could someone point me in the direction of all that dough? cause I ain't seen it in years. Musician's in the Northeast haven't seen an increase of any kind since 1982. and it was only 25 bucks hasn't changed since then. My sound and lighting system cost more than I make in 10 years. we do it for the love of the music not the money. Or we'd all be dead of starvation. My bill is for moving the gear in and out of a venue. the playing part is free.
Love the article really described $chmop life to a T
There is nothing to stop an artist from performing his or her own original music. However, there aren't that many artist out there, whom could perform an hour of origanal songs. A good alternative, may be to play instrumentals, and jam around the melody of a well know song. Since it would be your own interpretation of the song, you would not violate copyright laws. Anyway, who's going to be there to police such events? Even if someone was there, and reported it, are they really going to take you to court and try to get some money out of you? I think not.
I remember as a kid hearing my mom talking about her niece spending way too much time at a club called House of Joy. Didn't mean much to me then, until I later found out West Oakland once thrived as a great music scene. Kudos we have a few soldiers fighting to preserve part of Oakland's great musical legacy!
