Lorraine: The Oakland City Clerk webpage has the filing of GO Public Schools and other Super PACs that spent funding in support of the
School Board candidates mentioned in the article.
I was right up there at the sound truck when we were flashed bombed and tear gassed without any provocation. There was a 9 year old boy with his mother to the left of me and a person in a wheel chair to the right of me. The tear gassing and flash bombx created a very dangerous situation for the safety of all of us as there was no where to go. I am so thankful you kept everyone calm and continued the protest. But what realky opened my eyes is that the police and media lied about this incident saying everything from bottles were th thrown to molitive cocktails. I was 2 or 3 3 people back from the line of police, none of that h as poened as you were there.
I was slso at the rally on Thursday which opened up my knowledge of so many diverse groups but I inspired me by the love and the joint effort of all these people coming together for to protect those under attact and fight what is headed our way.
I am getting involved, sharing information, contacting government officials, and trying to find an activist organization that could use my help.
My eyes are open to we what I didn't see happening and am truly scared of what is happening and where we are headed.
Cat, I love the energy, passion, knowledge and inspiration you give. You are my hero and I feel more empowered and feel the inspiration to fight and much initiated by you those first 2 days. I am not going to crawl in a ball and cry, or live in denial, I am going to strive to protect others and fight for our rights and justice.
The words "Process" and "Processing" go undefined in Prop 64. Please FIX! Prop 64 says that it's legal to PROCESS up to 8 grams of cannabis concentrates. What does PROCESS mean?
Rob Appledorn's many comments are escalating in vitriol and have nothing to do with the mayor of Oakland.
Sadly, what the GOP has shown us is poor folks don't vote. 46 million voters sat this one out and they and everyone else will pay the price.
Thank you Rep. Lee. I hope you will continue your good work to preserve our pluralistic, open society in the halls of Congress. While white nationalists, ISIS, and Putin's Russia cheer the election results, the KKK and other groups plan victory parades through major cities all over the country. I hope that when they finally come to the Bay Area (and they will), you will stand with us to oppose them.
How does one go about investigating campaign contributions such as finding this info from the article? I've looked on registrar of voters but no info available. I know there's something.
This is a must-read. Thanks.
Don't worry, your p***y is the last one that Trump would want to grab
That's a big safety pin
This Blue Iowan in a newly turned Red state is with you.
This is just wonderful that so many can come together in common cause. Let us see if we can continue this when trump starts doing some truly horrid deed that affects our minorities and undocumented who depend on work in America to feed and house families at home. If HRC had been elected we would have been looking at a better future certain that we would have all been looked after none forgotten. Sadly the Republcans used their dishonest ways to steal the election but the big question is now, what are they going to do? If they do what they normally do trumps supporters will march on Washington, my thoughts are that perhaps Steve Bannon will give GOP pause before they trample over our rights, not allowing them to lead Trump but letting him lead them?
Barbara >>>I will always stand against bigotry and racism <<< Standing is NOT enough!!! You need to open your mouth!!!! SPEAK OUT!!!! Get on the Sunday morning shows because you have spoken out!!! Sign the petition to have Electoral College Electors vote against Trump!!! Can you do that??? Get other congress people to do the same!!! 4.3 million people have already signed the petition!!! That'll get you noticed!!!! And just maybe ... change will happen!!!
So Great to see such Love!
Wish I could have been there!
This gives us all Hope!
Could someone let me know when another peaceful event is going to be.
I live about 2 hours away now, but I would be there!
I am with you.
Interesting replies to the article. I thought it was an article about moving forward, not about the past. Another example of smoke and mirrors. Ron Dellums did more for this country and Oakland than most. Certainly more than internet posters. Until you have risked something other than your feelings, your comments carry no weight as they are misinformed and cliche. Ron Dellums record is not the concern here, Donald Trumps presidency and all the potential horrors it brings is. Wake up and do something different than talking about the past. It's the future thats in peril.
What we just experienced was the results of full on propaganda. Orchestrated with fake news, propaganda websites and news channels. That propaganda played to the ears of the disenfranchised by transferring blame from the perpetrators of self-serving policy (the Republican party) to minority groups who have been targeted. The rest of us stood by thinking, "Nobody could believe this crap." We were wrong.
Mr. Patton's criticism of Claudia Cappio is completely misplaced. She is extremely well-qualified and one of the sharpest and most experienced officials the City of Oakland has employed, especially in a planning and/or development position. The important issue is to ensure that the Urban Core team provides a subsidy for the EBALDC project that meets or exceeds what would be required by Oakland's inclusionary ordinance.
I had the great fortune of meeting Mr. Dellums a couple months ago, and the inspiration I gleaned from that encounter drives me still. The paths Mr. Dellums and others like him forged decades ago are the ones we march upon today, and it is heartening as a young person of color to see him still now at the forefront as a beacon - manifested in articles like this one - setting an example for the rest of us to follow.
Thank you Mr. Dellums for decades of service to the Bay Area and the international community. I recall supporting your work in Congress when I was a student at UC Berkeley in the late '70s and early 80s, and feeling empowered by someone who looked like me in office advocating passionately for environmental justice, world peace and economic and social justice. I was active in the anti-apartheid/UC divestment movement, the anti-nuclear movement, and the movement against financing death squads in El Salvador. Your article provides an encouraging message to young people today to lean in, press forward and engage in the political process. I'm impressed by your institute's work on anti-displacement strategies and coalition building including inter-generational work. The 'haters' and naysayers are often out there, so I encourage you and anyone else willing to step up and get involved to not fear opposition and ugliness. Love conquers hate. Justice requires us all to come together.
