Re: “Oakland's Poorest Neighborhoods Will Be The Most Susceptible to Flooding Due To Climate Change And Sea-Level Rise

Sound like it would be less expensive and less traumatizing if the government just provides everyone with a new non atmosphere polluting electric car.

Re: “Berkeley Police Basically MIA At Saturday's Violent Pro-Trump Vs. AntiFa Brawl

Flashbang grenades? Get a grip. They were throwing firecrackers. You think they couldn't get a pepsi can in but they could get grenades past the cops?

Re: “Berkeley Police Basically MIA At Saturday's Violent Pro-Trump Vs. AntiFa Brawl

I think BPD did good. Free speech lives, those who got hurt in the melee came for the melee and less likelyhood that the city will face lawsuits. I believe the people of Berkeley approve.

Re: “Berkeley Police Basically MIA At Saturday's Violent Pro-Trump Vs. AntiFa Brawl

Yea for BPD, let the 2 groups work it out
Then send them home for supper. Grab any straglers and repeat offenders anx haul them in. Why should the put themselves in harms way?

Re: “AC Transit to Cancel Supplemental OUSD School Bus Routes

I suspect terminating some buses to some public schools (while, outrageously, providing bus service to private schools -- how can this be legal? Seems like the Civil Rights Act comes to bear on this) is really about gentrification. The poor kid families are supposed to leave Oakland so more rich folks can move in. Then the buses will return. And the schools themselves will improve.

It's always amazing how these characters pop up, ex criminals ( we hope) now hoping for government and private grants to do the "good work".

Re: “Day After Deadly West Oakland Apartment Fire, City Modified Real Estate Deal to Financially Benefit Negligent Landlord

As if to illustrate my point, I just received the following information from a reputable cohort who is involved in this relief effort: "Just found out that the major City-approved fundraiser for the San Pablo fire survivors is going to be disbursed in the form of.....drumroll....Target gift cards. On May 12th. I can't even.
But wait, you wanna know why? Because people are "too likely to use cash to fund drug and alcohol habits." Let's just unpack that one while people run out of money for motels this week, and get picked up for sleeping in cars, and our encampments on Northgate, Brush, Magnolia, and Wood Streets grow ever larger. Re: “Day After Deadly West Oakland Apartment Fire, City Modified Real Estate Deal to Financially Benefit Negligent Landlord

The way the City of Oakland has neglected and dismissed these victims, our neighbors, is atrocious and serves as yet another glaring, unvarnished example of the depth and pervasiveness of gentrification and displacement at the hands of our leaders. It is sickening in it's obviousness and disgracefully unkind.

Re: “AC Transit to Cancel Supplemental OUSD School Bus Routes

First Student does indeed have a contract with OUSD, but it's to pick up the disabled students. The AC Transit buses are for the clipper card students.

Re: “A Fatal Threat to California's Chronically Ill Kids

Interesting, most families that have CCS feel they do not have adequate care, especially through their Medical Therapy program.
Our experience has been terrible, it has delayed treatment, we have so many "stories"
We have no other choice than to look forward to the day she ages out. A year and a half or so. The general consensus is it's a program to cut costs, an even more limited HMO than Medical Managed Care. My daughter has both. We've had more results with MediCal.
They CCS are also ill equipped to handle teen clients, since no peds Doctor will take a patient over 18. Those kids, young adults get left out in the cold. They're required to provide care outside their neteork, but the wait is absurd.
To call it coordinated care would be negligent.

Re: “Why Are So Many Rays Dying In Lake Merritt, And Sharks At The Berkeley Aquatic Park?

Thank you, Naomi. I mostly responded to the headline, which, in typical EastBayExpress fashion, hinted at dire deeds, nefarious schemes, and chicanery in public office. Then the artice went on to state that actually the same dead rays might have been counted several times, basically making the headline untrue. There's no scientific study I know of on fish population kills and population densities that indicate anything like the headline indicates. In my opinion, the Lake is by far the cleanest, most pollution free, sediment free and "unstinky" that it has been since I moved here 28 years ago.

Re: “Rent Increases In Alameda Outpace Regional Hikes As City Debates Whether Policy Is Working

I think the real question is: Should a politically dominant, privileged group be able to vote people out of their homes for no reason and without due process? The City of Alameda council is deciding what are our true values.
