Re: “Women-Led Mosque to Open in Berkeley

They need to hunt her down and start a war in Berkeley. If you will let her views and act violent to others I can't wait for that school to fall.

Re: “City Of Oakland's Top Budget Expert Says Trump's Threat To $130 Million in Federal Funding 'Should Not Be Taken Lightly'

Nobody is OK with crazy anyone roaming the streets! It is a complete exaggeration to place the blame of 'craziness on the streets' on people who are not here legally!!! That is right-wing BS!!! Get rid of people who are here illegally---watch the price of that tomato on your table go up a $1.00!! So sad that right-wing, heartless morons don't get that!

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

Oakland council members need to focus their efforts on a lot of others things besides tobacco and vaping. And how about enforcing the laws and consequences already on the books. Fining. Revoking business licenses. Etc.

Re: “AC Transit to Cancel Supplemental OUSD School Bus Routes

I suspect terminating some buses to some public schools (while, outrageously, providing bus service to private schools -- how can this be legal? Seems like the Civil Rights Act comes to bear on this) is really about gentrification. The poor kid families are supposed to leave Oakland so more rich folks can move in. Then the buses will return. And the schools themselves will improve.

Re: “Sen. Nancy Skinner Asks Contra Costa Supervisors to Cancel $95 Million Jail Expansion

Mental health services are needed both in the community and the jail, but 32 "mental health jail beds" are not required to provide such services. On the contrary, spending more money on incarceration means less fo spend on mental health professionals and other important services. If CCC would stop profiting on human suffering by ending the disgraceful ICE contract, there would be more than enough jail capacity required for to ensure public safety. Incarceration for any other reason is unacceptable.

Re: “In Praise of Oakland’s Koreana Plaza

"that part of Tele has those stupid bike lanes so it drags through there"

Amen, preach it! Used to be that you could blow through there at 20 miles above the posted speed limit. Now cars have to sometimes obey the law for a few blocks...it's ridiculous. Now the walk/bike fanatics are trying to extend it to other streets, too:

Law Enforcement budgets and actions must be spent protecting Citizens from VIOLENT OFFENDERS vs. non violent offenders.

Re: “Hayward Police Chief: There Is No Video of Fatal Police Shooting of 16-Year-Old Elena Mondragon

A Suspects vehicle assaulting a Cops vehicle has the same ~intent~ as a Suspects fist assaulting a Cops face. Both assaults justify prison, neither justify deadly force. Cops pitting their 100-300lbs flesh & bone against a Suspect vehicles 3,000-6,000lbs of steel are just ~GAMING OFFICER SAFETY~ to justify opening fire on a TARGET RICH ENVIRONMENT.

Re: “Hayward Police Chief: There Is No Video of Fatal Police Shooting of 16-Year-Old Elena Mondragon

Let's see how many barbarians come out to applaud and to justify the shooting of a unarmed, pregnant child by armed and trained agents of the state. Some things never change. Back during the days of jim crow, cops regularly committed atrocities against unarmed black people of all ages and both genders and were excused and lauded for it. After all they were Just thugs doing white society's dirty work for a paycheck and a pension. But remember, the real problem is those crazy North Koreans and ISIL not our own culture of blanket police impunity and it's evil twin the ever expanding surveillance state.

Thank you Senator Skinner! We need more leadership like this!
#ServicesNotCells!
Contra Costa County residents need youth services, social services, health care and mental health services, not jails.

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

It's a form of harm reduction. Vaping is the only way I would ever have been able to quit smoking. I did both for over a year while tapering down. E-cigs saved me from a 20-year pack a day Newport 100 habit. I understand why we want to keep tobacco products out of young people's hands and I agree. But the attempt to paint e-cigs as, "equally dangerous" as cigarettes is objectively false. There are literally HUNDREDS of carcinogenic chemicals in the filters of cigarettes, and burning tobacco means particulate matter-- ashes, tar, burning paper and tobacco in your lungs. Nicotine is addictive and bad for your heart, but it's still better than nicotine plus hundreds more also addictive and also carcinogenic chemical plus tar and particulate matter. I've managed to slowly step down my nicotine level using vape juices with progressively less nicotine. I have one more step before I'm at zero nic. I'm not the only one with a story like this. E-cigs are a cessation method and a harm reduction method that worked for me when no other method did.

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

Additionally; all my vape juice comes from a local Oakland business, who hire locally and make everything themselves. This isn't gonna hurt big tobacco, it's gonna kill local jobs and people's livelihoods. This needs to be addressed better.

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

Vaping got me to quit my 25 year habit of two packs a day. My health and quality of life has improved no end since making the switch.
i wish people would see the difference between vaping and smoking!

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

What about all the flavored liquors? Ban them too? Adults like sweet flavorings just as much as kids. I haven't smoked a cigarette since 2009 thanks to vaping.

Re: “Oakland Officials Want to Ban Flavored Blunt Wrappers, Two-Pack Cigars, And Vape Juice

No loss, except for the greedy tobacco profiteers.
480,000 dead in the US every year from addiction and death (Source: CDC)

Canada has ended the sale of all menthol and flavored tobacco.

Oakland ought to do the same.
