Re: “Spark: A Burning Man Story

This is probably as close a glimpse as most of us are likely to get of Burning Man's inner circle...and what makes the organization tick. Also, provides a really nice historical overview of how the event came about, has evolved and where it's heading from here...

Re: “Jobs

I found "Jobs" compelling and satisfying. It's a good movie for young people who find school boring and lacking in challenge. It shows how sticking to your own vision makes great things possible, and that might be outside the academic box. I'm glad it covers just the part of Steve's life that it does. The film has integrity, in that it shows both the dark and light sides of the protagonist. Jobs was no humanitarian, but I think people who use their Ipads and Iphones everyday should go easy in expressing such condescension.

Re: “Midnight in Paris

Meh. I enjoyed it but had to block out the "Woody Allen-ism" of it, wherein every character talks like Woody Allen, complete with the stuttering "you know's." Ruins the suspension of disbelief when Allen's ego intrudes at every juncture. Very clever at times, very well done, Owen Wilson has been one of my faves for years and great that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. But it's a travesty to make him talk like Woody Allen. He's a better comedian than that.

Loved Adrian Brody as Salvador Dali.

Re: “Casino Jack

How on earth did Kevin Spacey, one of the best actors we have, get roped into this loser of a film? I was so excited to see it that I didn't even want to wait until it hit the East Bay and I traipsed across the bridge to the Embarcardero. I sat in anticipation for the whole couple of hours, waiting for the feeling that I was enjoying it. I never did. The movie never took off. No matter how well-done, there's just something off kilter about it, and not in a good way. It's hard to pinpoint the problem, or problems.

Terrible, terrible, utterly atrocious movie.

Re: “The Next Three Days

This is one of the worst pieces of trash I've ever seen. I've lost all confidence in Kelly Vance. It is unbelievable from start to finish and gets laughably worse over its unfortunately long running length. And it's violent, unncessarily. And we don't care about the characters. And there's no reason for its existence, either in the story or any sort of concept above that. It's simple trash and poorly done trash at that. On top of that the scenes that are supposed to be subtle (the original murder), meant to be nuanced (I guess), are simply confusing. For a better of review of this see the Chron or the CSM. It sucks bigtime.

Re: “The New Ice Age

A beautiful film about how well do any of us ever really know another person. I caught up with Charlotte Rampling on the red carpet in Hollywood outside the TCL Chinese Theater: http://hollywoodglee.com/2015/... She gives a profound insight into the relationship factor in a live interview. Check it out. You'll be glad you did. I also reviewed the film on my site: www.hollywoodglee.com. HollywoodGlee.

Re: “Green Ice

"Will the toddlers in the audience remember Norm's environmental campaign as they grow up?" PG movies are really not for toddlers unless they've already been numbed by watching the violence on the TV at home. The dearth of G rated films has prevented my young son from ever entering a movie theater.

Re: “Luck of the Draw: The Ten Best Movies of 2015

What a good year for films! Thanks for some great reviews, especially those "under the radar" small films that simply don't get good PR. Such as Room. We're so lucky to live in the Bay Area where we can see more films than anywhere else except LA & NYC.

Re: “Tarantino Hits Bottom with 'The Hateful Eight'

It's nice to see someone not falling for this. It's so bizarrely bad, it's almost a puzzle. Why would Tarantino, who I believe can certainly do better, settle for this? Why would the great cinematographer Richardson, who can certainly do MUCH better, settle for this?

My only answer is a crazy one....this is a practical joke. This is QT's "Emperor's New Clothes." He wants to see how many reviewers and experts will proclaim "MASTERPIECE," when they're really looking at some pretty sloppy schlock.

Re: “'Joy' Is as Entertaining as a Household Chore

I hope I'm logged in. I can't agree with your review. I thought the movie had depth and therefore would have benefitted from deeper layers of analysis, instead of teasing, sardonic one-liners. I strongly recommend the Times Talks interview of Lawrence and David O. Russell, by Maureen Dowd, https://youtu.be/4q1TKZq3t4w

Or you can just watch League of Denial on PBS for free instead of this fictionalized account that panders to the NFL. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/lea…

Re: “Tarantino Hits Bottom with 'The Hateful Eight'

Disappointing is Ennio Morricon's barely-there musical score.
Go ahead, try playing any part of it in your mind.

Re: “Good News: The New ‘Star Wars’ Doesn’t Suck

It was a horrible movie. Most sites don't allow comments because they want to plug the movie. possibly for monetary gains, or sponsor support, possibly for political reasons like celebrating diversity in the film.. overall, the Star Wars the Force Awakens was a crappy emo millennial snooze fest, white male racist stereotype Hitler Youth bomb!

Re: “Good News: The New ‘Star Wars’ Doesn’t Suck

Did we watch the same movie?? what a joke! That movie sucked so bad! I can not believe the original cast agreed to do it! No story, bad acting, over the top forced emotions, whinny emo sissy villains. it was a total rip off of Episode 4 a new hope! what a nasty way to swindle money from fans! Disney and JJ Abrams created a real stinker.. worse then the prequels!

Re: “'Carol' Is No Triumph

Wow you missed out on so much. Movie goers you totally need to see this film to decide for yourselves!

Re: “'Carol' Is No Triumph

Wow, what a misguided, misses-the-point review! As just a film, Carol is a beautiful example of setting a scene and a mood, of shots and angles and pacing, film and color; as a story, it's a nuanced portrayal of desire, all the stronger through its restraint. Brilliantly written, acted and directed, I assume this reviewer was either texting throughout or waiting impatiently for a car crash or some other manufactured "excitement."

Re: “'Spotlight' Is Grim, But Worth Seeing

I find it very strange that the poster "neil allen" - real name Patrick O'Malley, 617-PATRICK - would complain about the catholic church. After all, he told his friends to give that same church money in the name of Margaret Hester O'Malley. Then he makes violent threats against all priests, says that all catholics are being raped in hell. . . It's all quite contradictory.
