Re: “UC Berkeley Students Inspire Legislation That Would Make California Colleges Provide Abortion Pill On Campus

This is a common sense approach. Like most good ideas, it's so obvious in retrospect.

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

What about only the tip, just for a second, just to see what it feels like?

Kidding aside, isn't this a more healthy way to explore a relationship?

If Uber wants to follow the Warriors over to SF, let them try and ride the coattails of success.

They might find Oakland offers a place to live and work that's better suited to keeping it real. I'm just saying. San Francisco can get a bit caught up, it's in the history books if you look.

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

the gig economy is independent contracting that really doesn't benefit you. All the expenses fall on the driver, taxes, upkeep, etc. After putting 100,000 miles on a 2014 Avalon a part time driver for Uber will soon need a new car while still paying for the old one.
"I'm Making Only $2.64 an Hour Working as an Uber Driver" "Takele Gobena makes well below minimum wage and says he has no health coverage if injured."

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

How is the gig economy rubbish ? As a second job (not Uber or Lyft ride sharing), the "gig economy" EASILY, without much of a sweat puts an extra $400-$500 a week in my pocket. I know what I got into and am ABSOLUTELY satisfied with the arrangement.

Good riddance to bad, unethical, gig economy rubbish.

Re: “Alameda Sheriff's Letter Supporting Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions Draws Criticism From Immigration and Civil Rights Advocates

Good for Ahern, he is following the law...I know that is odd for the "progressives" but for law abiding people it is refreshing. Next thing the "progressives" will want to empty the jail as most of them are political prisoners. Thank you for protecting us from criminals.

Re: “Alameda Sheriff's Letter Supporting Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions Draws Criticism From Immigration and Civil Rights Advocates

Great article, but I would love more information about how someone who clearly doesn't represent the interests of the majority of alameda county became Sheriff and if there is any effort to replace him with a progressive sheriff that better represents the values of our community.

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

I wonder what Uber saw in Oakland in the first place? What changed their minds? Did the city put up its usual anti anything road blocks and discouraged them? Is their business model stalling?l wonder.

Re: “Uber Not Coming To Oakland After All?

Uber should insure the city is involved regardless of their personal business goals. This appears to be more important now as they are apparently more of a landlord than driver of business in our city.

It is clear that Uber merely needs to act like a landlord in our great city and work with the citizens, businesses and government to insure a successful uptown transition.

Uber - please take this opportunity to extract your company plans from our need for an improved and properly integrated downtown. Sounds like one outreach individual is not enough.

Help us help you! :-)

Re: “Berkeley Is First City in America to Divest From Companies that Work on Trump's Border Wall

WOW!!!!!! Why is it that so many WHITE IMMIGRANTS have so much to speak about when pitting BLACKS and ILLEGALS AGAINST ONE ANOTHER? TRUE FACT!!!! WHITE FOLKS will not!!!! perform the jobs or duties that BLACKS or ILLEGALS get done. If in fact there is an strong argument somewhere in that, then let's argue that WHITE RAN INDUSTRY hire more BLACKS FOR EQUALITY IN PAY AND CONDITIONSINSTEAD OF CUTTING CORNERSBY HIRING ILLEGALS UNDER THE TABLE AND TREATING THEM AS THEY CHOOSE!!!! REAL B REAL.....TOGETHER!!!! WE CONQUER, DIVIDED WE'RE FALLING INTO ANOTHER TRAP!!!! WE DON"T HAVE TO ACT LIKE OPPRESSORS, DON'T HATE OR DISCRIMINATE.......LET'S START TO APPRECIATE!!!!!! LIFE AND LIBERTY BELONGS TO NOT JUST SOME, BUT ALL

Re: “Berkeley Is First City in America to Divest From Companies that Work on Trump's Border Wall

Ladder and rock climbing companies might be smart to poise themselves to take up a new location in Mexico! I would invest in those companies if I could!

Re: “Berkeley Is First City in America to Divest From Companies that Work on Trump's Border Wall

George Rockwell, because the highest % of illegal immigrants are those who overstay their visas, not border crossers, and there are people whose land crossss the border, and one Native American Indian reservation that spans the border, what would you have them do? The point here is the wall is not going to have much effect, except on those who's lands will be taken, contrary to what trump insisted, Mexico is NOT going to pay for it, the cost is prohibitively high, and the taxpayers will pay without even a say in whether they want to or not!! On the one hand everyone wants the government to stop telling them what to do, but in this the govt says 'you will pay' and u all r like, 'oh, okay' meantime he cuts funding to programs like the UN, Medicare, the arts, and meals on wheels 'to free up money for the walk' but really it's to pay the 138 million we will spend in the next half year, to support Melanie and Barron staying in New York!!

And final point, if you talk to most illegals you will find a good majority have tried to be legal but the system sucks. I know of one man who came here as a student, got married, had kids, worked two jobs to take care of his family, paid his taxes, but it was 10 years of trying to get the INS to give him his American citizenship, 10 years!!! Someone realized he was on an expired student visa and they deported him, his wife n kids were legal so they stayed. It took me 5 years to get my ex-husband legal!! Before you can complain about the illegals not coming her through legal means, you have to fix the system that checks them in. If the system is underfunded, underemployed, and unable to handle it, then you fix the system first!!! Don't you think that would be a cheaper more effective use our money??

This country has managed without a wall for 250years..so why do we all of a sudden need one. Fat cat gov't contracts. Thats all.

Seed Sucker, no one deleted your comment try refreshing the page before preaching foul.

I am sympathetic to your views but execution? How does that make you different from them? Besides, with their fragile egos they are most likely going to commit suicide anyways. Just look at the trans community.

And as expected, the snowflakes have suppressed my freedom of speech by deleting a comment critical of Berkeley.
