Very appealing the way it is described here.......but I am on the other coast..... Next Time?
We love Michel Bistro! But now it is going to be sooo hard to get into!! The soups are heavenly!
Yep all true! We've been 10 times already! Now stay away or we won't be able to get in the joint!
Tried this place a few Sundays ago. Great food, staff and clientele. Long wait.

And on the opposite end, they get it when I ask for a dish to be spicy, I end up with soul rending hot! A definite go to default restaurant for me!
Glad you got to check it out!
On my list
sounds great--Luke, you are clearly the best Bay Area food critic. i like that you find places which i could eat at at real world prices. I like the fact that I could probably eat out for 2 weeks at places you find for the same price of one meal which they review over at SF Gate (MB)
Great to have a new place to eat In Lower Bottoms. Good food, friendly people. Looking forward to more to come.
I really like this restaurant for spicy food, so much that it is almost everyday place. Prepare your stomach and enjoy it XD
Best to try dishes from my experience:
2.beef and fish in hot sauce(you can order to mix them)
3.hot and spicy potato
4.fresh fish(it just come out when I went yesterday)
Love this restaurant. It's one of my favorites.
Randy: I'd call it three *big* mouthfuls. This isn't exactly an inexpensive restaurant, but, if anything, the portions were more generous than you'd expect at this kind of place. It's not the kind "small plates" restaurant where you wind up having to hack a single scallop into bite-size pieces.
Do I understand correctly from reading the review and sidebars that Ocean Umami, $16 = $8 per mouthful?
Seems kinda steep for a casual restaurant...
Are you suggesting that minneapolis is 1986? Oh please, we rated the original loring pasta bar lower than the folks in Oakland did at your imitation pasta bar. Nonetheless we cherish the place because the decor is fantastic, and it's hard to get around that point. Go on, smell your own fart.
