The food is OK, but if you don't want to wait 30 minutes for them to pick up the check, and another 30 minutes to bring it back, then this is not a place for you. The owners loved to talk to their friends and don't care who is in the restaurant. The first time I ate in this restaurant, I saw a couple arrived, and were given a menu. I was served already, but the couple waited and waited, and finally gave up and left. The same problem: They were having a nice conversation with friends about life. Then it was my turn. I went there 5 times, and got tired of waiting for the check. Even if you ask them, still won't come for a long while. That is just how they are. Too bad, and I am not going back there ever.
Thank you East Bay Express for voting Arnie's Time Out the best bar for a bender! I think you captured the Time Out perfectly. Especially saying, "Arnie's is one of the last gravel-parking-lot roadhouses that pulls off the look and feel of rough and tumble with grace and a sense of family." Unfortunately, that atmosphere you described will be a thing of the past now. Arnie's was sold to new owners last week that do not intend to keep the bar or its loyal patrons for over 30 years the same. It is quite sad because many people think of it as a friendly good time place they call their 2nd home. To all of you that did get a real taste of Arnie's, your lucky because there are not many places like it left. And for those that did make it home for so many years, Thank you for all of the great times and memories!
The Temescal Cafe has no minimum for their WiFi and the staff is totally awesome and quirky. And the boss isn't a jerk.
Best Gallery in East Bay! I would lke to nominate Eclectix Gallery in El Cerrito for the best new gallery offering offbeat & alternative art exhibits....they have VERY creative selections with a great eye. Themed shows are fun and different!
