Re: “Toxic Couches

There's a huge chemical lobby focused on keeping the requirement for flame retardants in furniture in California. Flame retardants in furniture don't stop fires and they don't save lives. They do get into our bodies and the environment, where they don't belong. They have *not* been proven to be safe so they shouldn't be allowed, never mind being required. I'd like to see some smart lawyer sue the industry for not keeping their flame retardants *inside* the foam instead of leaking out into our homes and bodies. If legislators are really serious about saving people from fires, they should look into photoelectric smoke detectors.
