Victor Harris' is amazing. I just received and inhaled the apple cheesecake and it is the BEST cheesecake I have every had. EVER. you will not regret emailing him and receiving the cheesecake at the door!!!! Amazing. :)
I live in Oakland, and I only heard about this through Pharyngula. I'll give this place a try the first chance I get.
You're on Pharyngula now, and the way I hear it: PZ loved your cheescake. Be prepared for a TON more orders :-p Congrats!
Osullivan's in now under new ownership, and completely remodeled. In addition to a great selection of cigars, there is now a lounge/seating area with leather chairs and a 42 inch flat screen TV. It's a great place to hang and enjoy a cigar!
quintessential Berkeley bookstore.......in Oakland.
I absolutely agree!! It's a great store with friendly, knowledgeable and caring staff... Ag Photo can do EVERYTHING photo-related, whether its digital or analog, and if they can't, they'll bend over backwards to help you find a way... I've seen them help old-time professional photographers and people perplexed with their new digital cameras in the same breath. Ag Photo's the best!
Go Linden Street!
Congratulations Book Zoo! Go local indie bookstores!
Yes you can! Go cousin, the cake was wonderful and I look forward to many more!
Molino's Ravioli is now accepting Visa, Mastercard and Discover to make purchasing easier!
I took a trip to Walnut Creek and you were no longer there. Do you still have a place where we can go to buy special AA products?
Thank you and miss you
The Book Shop is amazing! Hank is a sage and Rene is a goddess of books. It's like Moe's Books (in Berkeley), but it's in HAYWARD. How cool is that? The new books they feature on their main shelf show how spiritually and politically enlightened these two are. It's surprising how often they have the used books I want, and at surprisingly fair prices, and they can track down hard-to-find books for you with ease. You can order via e-mail, and anything you can get from Amazon, you can get from The Book Shop. It is such a pleasure to spend time there, and always interesting talking with Hank and Rene. Right next door is the Bistro, where you can get a great glass of beer to enhance your book browsing. I too give The Book Shop and A+.
My children began requesting the Neldam cakes for their birthday parties in the 70's.
As grownups, they are still requesting the Fruitbasket cake.
Thank you for the many years of wonderful memories.
I drove by Wilmots a hundred times and never stopped, then one day I was walking by and decided to stroll on in. At the time I was reading W.S. Burroughs and wanted to read Naked Lunch. Sure enough, Wilmots had a couple of copies, along with other hard to find Beat writers. The bookstore is old-style and has a surprisingly good stock that is constantly changing. Sure, I pop into Borders down at South Shore Plaza more than Wilmots, mainly out of laziness, but regular trips to Wilmots, especially just to browse and see what turns up, are always rewarding. In fact, I may need to stop by today
I have been going to Bombay Music for about ten years and have been pleased with their Indian / Bollywood music CDs and video DVDs. They recently moved about half block away to the corner of San Pablo and University (2000 San Pablo ave) in Berkeley.
They also provide parking here. Their new phone number is 510-845-3311. Bombay Music is closed on Mondays.
Bombay Music has moved half a block away at the corner of San Pablo and University (2000 San Pablo Ave). This location is bigger and they seem to have bigger selection. Their new phone number is 510-845-3311. They also provide parking.
If they were so customer friendly why did they close the store without paying their teachers or even telling us to collect our store credit. Same shit different big uncaring store.
Yes, I completely agree! They have a great selection of used books for those on a budget or out to make a great discovery without having to pay full price [while reaching out and taking a chance]...
When I know that I want to buy a new book, I order it through them to support my local independent bookseller. Please do the same; we need to support local gems like this one!
Hank, the owner is a really good guy. Sometimes I hit him up with words or expressions with which I have struggled in my reading. He responds with something humble like, "You know, I'm not all that smart..." then proceeds to help me out with an explanation that totally clicks. Maybe I'm not all that smart either. Then again, The Book Shop may owned by a man who is as humble as he is wise.
Rene works for Hank. She's great! I have yet to see her fail to smile for anyone who walks in the door. She [like Hank} is very knowledgeable on books [both new and classic] and always willing to help in person and over the phone. They've held books for me so long that I've felt guilty. Yet, they've still had that book on hold for me every time. It feels great to get that kind of helpful service without having to spend tons of money.
Overall, I give The Book Shop in Hayward an A plus!
